I've been slowly working my way through the forums, and most of what I've
seen from Shmooth has been fine. Maybe a little incoherent at times, maybe
slightly irritating in style, but definitely not trolling.
Now, I realize that there was an article that was deleted due to the fact
that it was breaking down the website. Was that where the trolling began?
If so, that makes me kind of wonder if it was actually intended as
trolling, or rather if Shmooth kind of sees himself as a shock-jock type,
rather like Howard Stern, and got carried away with himself. Thinking he
was being funny, or tongue-in-cheek, he failed to properly express the
humor and got taken more seriously than intended.
But if I've read Shmooth at all, it is very hard for him to back down and
admit that the error was his in failing to make his un-seriousness clear,
instead he laid the blame on the offended parties for lacking a sense of
humor. Thus demonstrating some very trollish behavior, completely
inadvertantly.
As I've said, Shmooth reminds me very much of myself back in the day when I
used to try to interact with people and just ended up irritating them. I
was a very emotionally childish teenager, for very good reasons. I'm so
glad I grew up, and I think everyone else is too.
I kind of think this whole thing has blown up way bigger than Shmooth knows
what to do with, but he's still clinging to his persona, because I think
that is the only way he really understands how to interact with people. I
think maybe he is afraid that, without his attention-getting gimmicks, he
would never be noticed.
The thing is, from reading his forum posts (not here, but earlier ones), he
actually has some decent things to say. If encouraged to drop the abrasive
funny-man attitude, and brought out and developed when he produces
something interesting in itself, he may turn out a lot better than most
people seem to give him credit for.
Of course, I never did get a chance to read the article in question, so
this is mostly in conjecture, taken from comments about it in this forum
topic. I could very much be mistaken. ____________________

| I agree. Despite what some may claim, I think there's a good human being
somewhere in there. Deep, deep inside. He has a lot of opinions and a good
deal of them are good. But coherence and less 'holier than thou' would be a

Feral: 1) he generated a lot of traffic on the site. he can get people
stirred up, now, if only he could do it in a good way or for a good reason.
2) He can put a decent sentence together when he isn't babbling
incoherently. If he drops the stupid frat-boy attitude, we might see a bit
of intelligence from him.

a saint. But Schitzo, I too thought the boy had merit at first. I'm not
sure he knows to listen to reason at this point in his development yet,

Maybe I'm just more patient with him because I came into this later than
everyone else. Seems like what he needs most is to realize that, just
because he intends humor doesn't mean that he is being funny. I feel kind
of sorry for him, because he is trying so hard. And the thing is, if he
didn't try so hard, he might actually succeed at whatever his goal is. I'm
still not sure whether it is to troll or entertain. Oh well, he strikes me
as fairly young.
I will say one thing for him - he is persistant. Being a obstinant
so-and-so with an epic ability to bang my head against brick walls, I feel
a kind of strange kinship. He reminds me of myself in my less
socially-acceptable youth. There may be hope for the young Jedi after all.
Who knows.
Certainly upbraiding and insulting him has done nothing to change the
irritating tone of his posts. Perhaps a little patience and understanding
will bring a diamond out of this rough. Perhaps not. We'll see. ____________________

I tried, too, and it didn't work. The only way I figured out was going on
with this onebecause Schizo (who would appear to have the patience of a
saint) managed to read all of it, comprehend it, and then condense it down
in to a concise summary. Yay for Schizo!

I read his post. The question is, was it really that long, or did the huge
spaces in-between sentences and paragraphs make it seem so? It certainly
was repetetive, but I think I figured out what he was getting at.
He's defining his terms. (Mostly, probably some other things, too, but
they were a little hard to grasp).
In his vocabulary, faggot = stupid gay person (or person in general) and
nigger = stupid black person (or person in general). (to perhaps
over-simplify a little)
I'm glad that he could clarify this. Unfortunately, however, these are
dangerous words to use because not everyone assigns the same meanings to
these words. Many use them on any gay or black person they meet,
indicating that gays or blacks are all uniformly stupid and repellant.
Unfortunately, these are the more common usages of the words. Which means
use of the words in any other way is prone to misunderstanding. If someone
misunderstands you because the meaning of your words is unclear, you have
no one but yourself to blame. Thanks, however, for taking the time to
clarify it for us, although it could have been done in a slightly less
condescending manner. Although that is also probably part of what you
consider your sense of humor, so I won't take it too seriously.
The whole controversial word issue brings to mind when Chevy tried to
market their Nova in Mexico. It didn't sell because Nova in Spanish means
that it doesn't go. They had to change the name before they could sell the
car. Perhaps the Mexicans should have test-driven the Nova before assuming
that it wouldn't go, but it really isn't their job to make allowances for
an American car company that doesn't bother to check for Spanish meanings
of their car names.
Ideally, perhaps, people would always question the personal meaning
assigned to offensive words before getting angry at the person using them.
But there's not really that much time in a lot of people's days to try to
protect people who use these words from the misunderstanding they must know
is bound to happen.
By the way, we do understand the words "fucking stupid", so it's OK to use
them. Although probably not so attention-grabbing. ____________________

I cannot beleive that you went into some long drawn out speach about
prison, the word faggot and some other bullshit. I skipped most of it,
honestly who has the time to read that crap. I can't beleive it was that
long and still didn't make any since at all..........at all. When you're

Identifying the correct use of the term is the quick way to distinguish
between a nigger and a black person.

When we call a person who isnt gay a "fagget"..we mean, that if
circumstances were different,the person in question would be just like one

It's like saying that if karma is in effect.. In your next life you'll be
just the way you are now,+belonging to a minority.

Gay people would do good in acknowlaging this, and start using the term

Finishing, let me say that if I really came across a homosexual that was a
fagget, I wouldnt use the term fagget.
Because the fagget wouldnt understand. In the unlikely event that I,a
straight man,actually came across a homosexual that I identified as a
fagget,then I would take my time and tell him he is a weak,stupid,sell
out,hypocrite of the minority.
Mentality makes you a fagget, not your sexuality.
Gay, is the term for righteousness. (not an insult)
Queer, is the term for confused. (not misunderstood)

Thanks, Schizo. I don't enjoy flaming people, but I'm tired of avoiding
him and his juvenile posts.
Squire, I was born on the River, so I was referring to the real thing
, which is hard to wash off and impossible to see through.
Shmooth, I hang out at the Lake, I'm glad you finally figured out what my
name means, as it's a veiled reference to the ugly duckling. I wouldn't
presume to call this place home, but I enjoy the company and the friends
I've made here are worth more than my soul. I came back because I missed
reading what they had to say, and I wanted to do my best to contribute
again, even though I haven't shared anything large yet.
Please, Shmooth...I know I'm just wasting my time, but please, drop the
frat-boy facade, be yourself, and get a feel for this place. You've made
it clear you aren't going anywhere, so you might as well, in the words of
Devin, "Chil out and pay attention."
You could learn a lot if you keep your mind open, and think before you
post.

Yeah, Squire, that's the way I see it. I really don't like frat-boy humor
and that seems to be all he has. If I met him in a bar, I'd either insult
him or ignore him. Probably the latter. I don't waste time insulting frat
boys. I have better things to do with my time. The poor thing just keeps
coming back though, doesn't it?
