Since many Shmeng members are still in highschool (ha ha) and the iron bars
of those prisons are slowly opening up again to welcome back your warm
bodies, I’ve decided to share with you all interesting text document I
found in my computer one day. I don’t know how it got there but it’s
there.
Enjoy.

The Goths (200 to 714)
The Goths were a Germanic tribe on the Danube River frontier known to the
Romans from the first century AD. Pressured and then displaced when the
Huns moved west out of Central Asia, the Goths moved west into Europe and
over the Danube River to escape the oncoming hordes. After taking part in
the fall of Rome, they vied with other barbarians for the leavings of the
Western Roman Empire during the Early Middle Ages.
The Goths originated on the island of Gotland in the Baltic, to the best of
our knowledge, and split into two groups as they migrated south across
Central Europe. The Visigoths, or West Goths, settled in modern Romania
during the second century. The Ostrogoths, or East Goths, settled farther
to the east on the northwest coast of the Black Sea. In 376 AD the
Visigoths were driven from modern Romania by the Huns and moved south
across the Danube. Their strength was estimated at 60,000 men, women, and
children. They defeated a Roman army from Constantinople, settled briefly
south of the Danube, and then pushed into Italy. In 409 they sacked Rome
under their king Alaric and then moved north into Gaul. The Romans gave
them southwestern Gaul. From there they eventually extended their rule into
all of modern Spain and Portugal.
The Ostrogoths broke away from Hunnish rule and followed their cousins into
Italy late in the fifth century. They were encouraged to invade by the
Eastern emperor, who wanted deposed the barbarian then ruling as viceroy.
Under Theodric, king of modern Switzerland and the Balkans already, the
Goths entered Italy in 488, completing its conquest in 493.
Theodric´s kingdom did not last long following his death in 526. Using a
struggle for succession as an excuse, the Byzantines sent an army to Italy
in 536 led by their great general Belisarius. The Byzantines hoped to
regain Italy and restore the old Roman Empire in the West. The war dragged
on, devastating the countryside in conjunction with plague and famine. In
552 the Ostrogoths were finally defeated in Italy. They ceased to exist as
a separate group by the late sixth century when northern Italy was invaded
by a new group of barbarians called the Lombards.
The Visigoth kingdom lasted somewhat longer. In the late fifth century
Clovis of the Franks pushed the Visigoths out of France and over the
Pyrenees Mountains. Following the death of Clovis his kingdom fragmented
and the Visigoths were temporarily left alone. In 711 a new threat appeared
from the south. Islamic armies crossed over from North Africa and destroyed
the last Gothic kingdom in four years.
The Goths are remembered for being the first to sack Rome and thereby
beginning the final collapse of the ancient world order in Europe. Their
admiration for Rome and attempts to preserve it, however, allowed much of
the Roman culture to survive. For example, the modern languages of Italy,
France, Spain, Portugal, and Romania are derived from Latin influenced by
later settlers. They are not variations of German, as was the case in
England. ____________________ but at least you know, just how much pain there is in living |

I´d like to see one of the modern day romantic fops that goes by "goth" try
to topple rome...that´d be a kick in the pants for sure *snicker*
I say that if we ever go to war again, we send all the rave goths...they
can blind and disorient the enemy with strobes, glow sticks, and flinging
glitter with pounding, deafening EBM and Dance Industrial to totally
confound them, send half into seizures, the other few into a drug dazed
bliss, and then the rivet heads can come in and finnish up any dirty work
that may remain.
Then the gutter punks can just squat their country until they get sick of
the puke puddles and broken bottles, and promise to behave themselves just
to make them go away.
Then the hippie tree huggin goths can go in and clean up the mess.
Ah, the power of kettlecorn on a late sleepless night... ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

to do with a bunch of Germans with beards who toppled the Roman empire
doesn´t it?! ____________________ Light is changing to shadow, and casting a shroud over all we have known. |

besides a few histoic inaccuracies (the first northern heresy, three tribes
that originated as far north as scandinavian germany, and who paid aleric
and his people to sack rome and why they did it to name a few) i can
agree.
And for the record, there are lots of place names around the world that
include the word "goth". ____________________ Real goths wear silver and crosses to keep the werewolves and vampires

Again I just found this on my computer.
Interesting, none the less.
I personally would like to know more about the tribes themselves. During
the times of the Roman Empire, Germanic tribes were a very big thorn in
their ass....

C, I still love that "history" bit you did and how it ties in to the
"mopeys" bit. It just sort of ties things into a nice little black bow.
Posers or not, send in the goddamned mallrats first to take the heavy
casualties.
Friggin mallrats. *Snarl*
I think it just may work. Hell help you should I ever rule.
Bwahahahha.
You could always go with plan A. Plan B is send the intellectual goths
over to talk them to death, and Plan C is send the morose goth kids over to
whine them right into mass suicide.
I´m too fucking smart for retail, I think sometimes..
Or to homicidal...go fig. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

AloneSoul: That text file was from Age of Empires II. They have a little
medieval encyclopedia built in, and that is one of the source files for it.
Probably (if your computer is second-hand) the previous guy didn´t erase
everything completely.
Bettie X : Yes, you may hate mallrats. But they´re your job security. If
they were smart enough to find stuff on their own, they wouldn´t need you.

Bettie, you’re my war consul from now on.
If global domination was achieved, what would be the name of this new
place?
Hmmmm....
See, you send in the morose kids to infiltrate the “norms” society. Slowly,
their worlds begin to crumble, mass suicide follows and then we attack.
Now, how will we get them to fight? The mall rats will be given a gift
certificate to Hot Topic if they survive the front lines, the posers
follow. Ravers will blind the enemy with their free glow sticks/pants and
so they should be among the front. Then, the punky goths follow to wreck
havoc, each given a six pack of Bud Ice and a bottle of vodka.
God, I really have TOO much time with insomnia.
Ironboots, my older brother used to play Age of Empires II religiously till
he left for college. That explains it...and it´s easy to make fun of mall
rats. My sister was one, my brother and I had a field day with insults for
her. ____________________

Of course he would play it religiously. Its a good game. *Unleashes a
Teutonic rush against the British Castle* BWAHAHAHA!!!!
*chanting* England sucks rocks!
(No offense to any English people here, I merely mean the in-game England)
But about your world domination plans, who would decide who is a poser?
That all goes back to the what-is-goth discussion/argument/catfight. Your
war council would be crippled because they would not be able to resolve the
issue!
To catch a mallrat, you do not put cheese in the mousetrap. You must use a
pair of GAP jeans as bait. For mallrats are fickle about their cheese. But
GAP jeans are always good to them.

I think the fashion wing of the Goth High Council are relaxing a bit about
spikes and black lipstick before Labor Day, Callei. Frankly, I wouldn´t
mind seeing a return to dress robes, but I think the days of young, angry
Teutons shining up their best cuirass before sacking a city on a lazy
Sunday afternoon with a few hundred of their friends are a thing of the
past. *sigh* Almost makes you want to go and join the Suevi.

I am an archetypal nerd... I have not, to date, watched a "reality tv" show
(who came up with that oxymoron to describe game shows anyway?) When I saw
that you had written "Survivor", it took me awhile to figure out that you
weren´t talking about a crappy band from the 1980´s. :-P I am,
the perennially out-of-touch,

One of my greatest flaws is my burning curiosity.
Survivor, a “reality” based tv show where people have to run threw flaming
hoops and perform other stupid stunts. It had my attention for three
minutes. I thought they were REALLY going to drop people off into a island
and let them fend for themselves hence the term “survivor.” But hunting and
establishing a competent society in a deserted island is too boring and
harsh for tv.
Ack, you ever have one of those days where you want to throw your remote in
your tv? Heh, when I watch my daily dose of DBZ and Simpsons, I get that
urge by just seeing those god awful commercials for...well, everything.
Hm, ranting again. ____________________
