Since many Shmeng members are still in highschool (ha ha) and the iron bars of those prisons are slowly opening up again to welcome back your warm bodies, I’ve decided to share with you all interesting text document I found in my computer one day. I don’t know how it got there but it’s there.
Enjoy.

The Goths (200 to 714)

The Goths were a Germanic tribe on the Danube River frontier known to the Romans from the first century AD. Pressured and then displaced when the Huns moved west out of Central Asia, the Goths moved west into Europe and over the Danube River to escape the oncoming hordes. After taking part in the fall of Rome, they vied with other barbarians for the leavings of the Western Roman Empire during the Early Middle Ages.

The Goths originated on the island of Gotland in the Baltic, to the best of our knowledge, and split into two groups as they migrated south across Central Europe. The Visigoths, or West Goths, settled in modern Romania during the second century. The Ostrogoths, or East Goths, settled farther to the east on the northwest coast of the Black Sea. In 376 AD the Visigoths were driven from modern Romania by the Huns and moved south across the Danube. Their strength was estimated at 60,000 men, women, and children. They defeated a Roman army from Constantinople, settled briefly south of the Danube, and then pushed into Italy. In 409 they sacked Rome under their king Alaric and then moved north into Gaul. The Romans gave them southwestern Gaul. From there they eventually extended their rule into all of modern Spain and Portugal.

The Ostrogoths broke away from Hunnish rule and followed their cousins into Italy late in the fifth century. They were encouraged to invade by the Eastern emperor, who wanted deposed the barbarian then ruling as viceroy. Under Theodric, king of modern Switzerland and the Balkans already, the Goths entered Italy in 488, completing its conquest in 493.

Theodricīs kingdom did not last long following his death in 526. Using a struggle for succession as an excuse, the Byzantines sent an army to Italy in 536 led by their great general Belisarius. The Byzantines hoped to regain Italy and restore the old Roman Empire in the West. The war dragged on, devastating the countryside in conjunction with plague and famine. In 552 the Ostrogoths were finally defeated in Italy. They ceased to exist as a separate group by the late sixth century when northern Italy was invaded by a new group of barbarians called the Lombards.

The Visigoth kingdom lasted somewhat longer. In the late fifth century Clovis of the Franks pushed the Visigoths out of France and over the Pyrenees Mountains. Following the death of Clovis his kingdom fragmented and the Visigoths were temporarily left alone. In 711 a new threat appeared from the south. Islamic armies crossed over from North Africa and destroyed the last Gothic kingdom in four years.

The Goths are remembered for being the first to sack Rome and thereby beginning the final collapse of the ancient world order in Europe. Their admiration for Rome and attempts to preserve it, however, allowed much of the Roman culture to survive. For example, the modern languages of Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Romania are derived from Latin influenced by later settlers. They are not variations of German, as was the case in England.

I’ve been watching Demolition Man. It’s actually a good, intelligent movie. Rent it, you’ll like it.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 kicked ass. I loved how they tore into those god awful movies...the best are the ones in which the movie takes itself too seriously.

I saw "the head that wouldnīt die" on an episode of MST3K then rented the real movie...
This guy is a medical scientist specialising in transplanting bodyparts, and has a "monster" locked in a cottage in the country.
He drives his fiance out there to see his work and they are in a horrid car accident, and the only way to keep her alive is to cut off her head and keep it alive in a pan (hence the MST3K nickname "jan in the pan") with tubes everywhere. She becomes resentful and mentally releases the monster (I guess getting your head cut off releases psychic powers) and orders him to kill her fiance, the assistant, and burn down the lab allowing her to die.
Itīs CLASSIC.
Carnival of souls is sort of like a 1940īs "sixth sense" only WIERDER and more surreal.
Iīm all about MST3K and B movies. I canīt live without them.

The only way to watch B-Movies is watching MST3k (Mystery Science Theater 3000). I have never seen so many b movies in my life...and they make it humorous.

IronBoots, the only thing I remember from that tv show was some of the theme song and a scene where the mad scientists was flying around in a helicopter, shooting tomatoes at people.

You want to see where that maddness originated from? Rent that movie.

The head that wouldnīt die...for some reason that reminds me of a old 50īs movie where a guy was chopping at a giant, floating, evil brain.

Oh yes indeed it was plan b from outerspace!
Iīd suggest killer clowns from outer space
Santa clause versus the martians
the head that wouldnīt die
House by the cemetary
Horror hotel
Carnival of souls

REEFER MADNESS!
The funniest thing about reefer madness is that they are SO SERIOUS! This was meant as a drug education/warning film on the dangers of marijuanna smoking and was pre WWI.
Michael pointed something out to me as well.
"Hey honey, take a good look at the menīs faces."
"Why?"
"Well, this was made pre WWI"
"So?"
"Well get a good look, because most if not all of the men in this film will be dead in less than three years."
It was SURREAL. Just to know not dead of old age, but dead of a war that hadnīt even HAPPENED yet.
Thatīs what I get for marrying a history maniac *snicker* the little tidbits of info that makes me see old movies just a tad bit more interesting...

They made a -movie- Attack of the Killer Tomatoes? I never knew... I only watched the tv show during Saturday mornings...
*sings* Ataaack of the killer tomatooes!

Recently I saw the Lathe of Heaven. Its based on a sci-fi book about psychics. I suppose people like it. But the movie was only made in about 2 weeks, with 250 grand for a budget. And it was made before ILM-style effects were popular. But it was the only thing on tv....

You know there is actually a teevee program on some channel or another, I think cable access called "so bad itīs good theater" where they play nothing but awful old scifi and horror films...the best of the worst itīs fucking RAD.
Itīs all about ed wood. Gotta give props to a man that can appreciate cashmere sweaters...

Iīm looking up info on the Forbidden Zone....
"Shot in black and white, this live-action cartoon movie follows the mischievous Frenchy Hercules (daughter of the Hercules family and played by Richard Elfmanīs wife, Marie-Pascale) into the basement of her cardboard house, where she finds a gateway into the sixth dimension, where women run naked, strange creatures sing wacky old songs all day and you donīt need to take your pants off to have sex."
Jesus, this must be awful. I have to see it!

Again I suggest these movies if you can find them.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Critters *1,2,3, I donīt know how many more they have*
Toxic Avenger, THE definition of bad movie making.
Any subdubbed or dubbed Chinese action movie from the 60īs.
Iīm too tired to think of names right now...

Iīve mentioned this one before in another forum, but if you can find a copy of it, watch the out-of-print "Forbidden Zone" by the Elfman brothers. It is painfully bad... youīll love it!

You got it right the first time, Alone. And there was a Toxic Avenger II and III (possibly more) as well. They were put out by Troma... a better Troma vehicle, in my opinion, was Surf Nazis Must Die. Anyway, the whole Troma phenomenon was about putting out bad movies on purpose. I donīt know, for my tastes, unintentionally bad movies are a lot more enjoyable.

Critters reminded me of those ball type things, theyīre constructed of individual strands of rubberbands....they are bouncy, have arms, legs and heads. Fuzzy they are...

Except those bouncy, fuzzy rubberband things didnīt have two rows of razor sharp teeth.

Ack, I probably lost you by now.

Well, if you really want to see a awful movie that has nothing to do with this conversation, except that itīs a old 80īs movie, rent The Toxic Avenger...or Crusader, I canīt remember the name.

Trust me, if youīve seen it, youīll know how terrible a movie with a $1,000 budget is.

Fried Green Tomatoes, good point, but nothing’s better than, yes, the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!
Really want to dispose of the evidence?...sick giant man eating tomatoes on the cadaver and it is gone in no time.
