| What part has you freaked burn? that you would be following the family
tradition? that you might have to live a structured life? that you want to
do something different and your family isnt supporting you in say, going to
mine school or something? do you feel that you arent ready to make a 4 year
commitment? are you worried about failing at it somehow? why dont you want
to join is perhaps a more useful way of trying to think about it that
having people tell you why you "should" or "shouldnt" or what it means to
them. Its your life after all and you have to decide how you are going to
live it. ____________________

| Haa Ha ,Callei "structured life" good one. Every thing else is dead on the
money. But that lol. I have stummbled across the quater deck durnk and in
my leather shirt unbutton, with love marks all over me. Went to the smoke
pit lit one up than started puking over the side. burshed my teath than
went to bed. The next morning not a single displonary thing happened. Some
picking on for being green, but that was it. This was only my first port.
If you call this structured i would love to see what you call wild. ____________________

I think the answer to what i call wild is in your response. That there was
a place called the smoke pit (an 'approved' place to smoke'), that you had
to be up in the morning and knew it, and that you were 'at port' are all
clues to the underlying structure.
And there is that whole wake up call thing, how someone else makes all your
food for you (most days at least), that your clothes choices are decided by
someone else, that someone does your laundry for you (ok again most days at
least), that your housing is chosen for you, and the way that you can't
change jobs as easily as someone on land can.
Does that make it more clear? Someone else chooses what you wear, when you
eat, when you wake, where you sleep, when you work, when you play, who your
roomates are, how clean your personal space must be, where you can smoke,
and so forth. ____________________

| If that is the case than you are correct. It is sturctured. But every job
has some structure. In the navy there is more stucture than most job. So
you are correct. I also did not mean to offend. If i did I apoligize. ____________________

not offended at all! i just thought i was unclear and wanted to make sure
that i got the idea across. Thanks for poking the words so that i could see
where i was assuming others would know what i was talking about.
And yah all jobs have some structure, so does college, and so does living
on the streets really. but it is somehting to consider in your job choices
i think, how much structure do you want, how much are you used to, and how
much would be too much for you.
One thing i have seen it to for lots of people is aid them in biulding a
sense of selfworth that they were lacking. and i think the structure might
be part of that success, in that they know what to do and and can 'succeed'
at things many times before breakfast even. that whole patteren of success
thing. ____________________

| That whole give and take of life. The worst part is haveing the
responseiblites af an adult. I am responseible for gear that keeps radar
operateing and planes in the air. Yet I have a curfue like a preteens at
his first dance. That sucks. ____________________

I can calm down when I'm dead!!
From a former-sailor to a couple currents...I've gone out, but I still
carry it with me, and I figure if I can't stand beside ya' anymore, I can

first of all, what are you doing now? anything important? i was in the navy
for 3 years. i recommend it if you have nothing else to do, and your family
can't pay for college. otherwise, it is kind of like jail. they will have
you work so many hours, you will be getting paid like 3 dollars an hour
sometimes. you will be thinking, "i can make more at mc donalds" at times.
there aren't a lot of hot chicks at all. most of the people who you will be
working for are all losers that would be fired if they were out in the real
world. i mean who stays in for 20 years as an enlisted man and doesn't want
to become an officer or get out? there are so many people just floating
through the navy that we all wish we could get rid of. but since you can' t
get fired, they just keep them doing stupid little jobs and paying them
anyways. it's crazy! join the peace core if you want to see the world and
do somthing positive.

ah shit Feral. Why do you always have to be at the end of every thread,
when I want to say something.
An outside view (Did I say it's an outside view? Yes,I just did) would be
that being in the NAVY can mean many things.
ah .. yall are clapping, saying "Bravo"..good for an outside view.
Ehm..But going beyond that.. If you are going to get in to the moral
dilemmas (you dont see moral dilemmas?Look again) of joining the NAVY ,
then you're gonna get exhausted. Which is probably what being in the NAVY
is like.
I wish they would have mentioned the NAVY in the bible.. cause then we'd

There are many good reasons to be part of a system, and there are many good
reasons to not be part of a system.
Some people consider any reason you think is a good reason to join the
navy, to be a good reason. While I understand some of those people..(I'll
even go as far as to say most of them)..I cant help but like them. But I
can not respect them. There's the difference.
If you wanna get in to a moral discussion (I wont do that), then think
about how your joining of the Navy can send the message of supporting the
killing done by the 30% (even if you spend your time scrubbing floors!).

Know that the courage is acting on understanding , nothing else.
If you're not up for killing anybody,work in a hospital or do something
else in the Navy. Just dont do the actual "killing". Cook,clean..or
whatever.
Dont be in the front and be a part of those 30% unless you want to.
Be in the back lines somewhere jerking off. ..Doing something that doesnt
involve killing or supporting killing.
Just know that you cooked the chicken that fed the man that killed.
Realise, that in the Navy..The more innocent a job is..the more it sucks,
and the less it pays. I know this. And you know this, so dont pretend!
Now, let me say that my heart really goes out to those who risk their lives
EVERY FUCKING DAY.
America might be one nation, but it's certainly not one force.
One day "america" is in Vietnam dropping napalm,killing children,and raping
women.
The next day "america" is freeing a country of a dictator.
All the same system to me. Whether you're on a ship, or in a plane, or on
the ground.
If you feel comfortable with the irregularities of what is "america", then
go for it.
Maybe you'll get back from war..and start a band like Bruce
Springsteen..and sing about how you were "Boorn in the USA!".
As far as joining the navy if you dont have shit to do.. I dont feel that.
