Lately I've noticed a growing trend on Shmeng and in the media in general
to make fun of a certain group of people. The people in question are
midgets, and I'm getting really sick of it.
Normally I wouldn't tell people what to do, but I think it isn't so much a
case of people meaning to say something incendiary so much as people don't
realize how hurtful and offensive it is. I feel like it's gotten to the
point where if you can't think of something funny, witty, or intelligent to
say you just throw out something involving midgets and BAM! Instant
funny!
I didn't realize either until I became friends with a midget (although she
prefers to be referred to as a little person) how much bad humor out there
is at their expense. When you want people to stop staring at you, you can
always pop out your facial piercings and cut your hair. Little people are
not so fortunate, and they live with things that I doubt most of the people
on here could deal with on a day to day basis.
So please, cut the midget jokes the fuck out. They aren't clever, and they
aren't funny. I hold this community to a slightly higher standard than the
Man Show. Let's prove we are slightly more intelligent and tolerant. ____________________

Did I miss something? I don't remember seeing anything about "little
people".
I"m not much for that type of joke anyway...it is rather cruel, and it's
true dat tho...most people all they gotta do is redye their hair or
unfasten some metal in their face.
I've referred to MYSELF as a "little person" before, (tho I have to say I
prefer my husband's term for me.."fun size" ) I believe, as in the fact
that I'm fuckin SHORT AS HELL and I have to weark platforms to do dishes
(can't reach the top or second from top shelves *ugh*) and often climb on
cupboards and shelves at work just to get to stuff.
Who's been makin midget jokes? ____________________

ive been guilty of making cracks about them, but i dont discriminate, i
make fun of *every* type of person.. its not selective for me at all. But
I dont know if i have made joke of midgits on here. i dont think i have. Oh
well. If i did, sorry to Offend.  ____________________

Kira, I'm sorry if the article I had posted offened you. That really wasn't
my intention at all. If you read some of my other articles you'll see that
my writting is meant with the utmost sarcasam. I have no problem with
little people, especially with myself being as short as I am. My best
friend Spice is only 4'4". Anyways, I had a follow up article ready, but
since it bothers you I'll hold it back. No hard feelings ?

Honestly, I didn't even think to look at who posted what in the first
place, and I wouldn't want to single anyone out even if I did. Like I
said, it's just something I've been noticing more and more lately here and
everywhere. I guess you could say it's become a major pet peeve.
Anyway, thanks for understanding. Maybe we can stick to making fun of
people who pick their poison (like fundies or republicans). No offense to
republicans.
