Now i can prove to everyone I'm not a goth...i'm just weird. This test will
save my life. Actually, I'm here trying to find research for my personal
interest project. I don't know what i'm doing yet but i'm thinking of
looking at different cultures amongst teenagers. If anyone can help me

Ah well. Now you've had you're head bit off you can go away and make some
sweeping generalisations about that. I don't believe in subcultures anyway. |

The online bullying is getting less endearing every time, feral. I wasn't
under the impression that you were trying to make yourself into a
two-dimensional caricature, but you're getting there quick.
If you want to chomp a head, mine is right here and it isn't going to be
chased away as quickly as every newbie in the past year or so that I've
seen trying to make a tentative contribution before being chopped off at
the knees.

Mono: i was not bullying... I have been more tolerant in the last 6 months
than I ever have... HONESTLY... I have restrained myself, tried being nice
and even tried taking some under my wing... but the nicer I become, the
more people comment on how mean I have become... you make an unfair blanket
statement... there are many I have let slide... many... (I have kept a list
and tally) that I have talked to on an IM service and attempted to help...
and the more I try... the more flak I have cought
I have tried to be nicer... but have failed... mea culpa... the solution
will be forthcoming...

Generally speaking, once someone has taken the time and interest to write
on a certain subculture, it's no longer a subculture. I don't believe that
"Goth" in its many forms is a "sub" culture anymore, just like punk, rave,
glam, romanticism, indie, or industrial. Burlesque is one of the comeback
kids, but once again becoming too main to be sub.
It wouldnt' suprise me a bit to find out that there is a NEW teen "sub"
culture out there, because I was out of the friggin loop even when I WAS a
teenager. If there is, please do tell. For some reason, I like to know
what "the kids" are up to once in a while other than being as obvious as
they possibly can.
If you'd like some pre written "Goth" culture material, I highly suggest
Gavin Badderly's "Goth Chic". It's a well written book.
I however am going to start my OWN subculture of burlesquie moddish heavily
drinking vegan devil worshippers. I'll be so sub even *I* wont' be a

Maybe I did make a blanket statement. And maybe the problem is with me,
after all there is always a gaggle of vocal supporters for every act of
viciousness, both here and in the real world. And maybe that's my
problem... ALWAYS.
I know you've said you're trying to become more tolerant, and I support
self improvement. I guess what's been really pissing me off is I see THE
SAME conversations, the same jibes, the same retorts, the same input over
and over and over and over again so often that I completely lose track of
whatever the hell forum it is that I was looking at in the first place.
If I wanted to name names, I could write a 12 page forum from start to
finish and tell you word-for-word who would say what, which circular
arguments and non-sequiters would get used and by whom, fill it up with a
lot of pointless one-ups and then wrap it up on a hanging thread that
doesn't go anywhere.
I guess I'm just tired of seeing the same old shit. I don't think it's
clever, I don't know if I ever did, and I just don't see any fucking point
to the exercise anymore.

Mono: i see your point... and mine is exactly the same... it seems that
every newbie... the ones that irritate me are carbon copies of the last...
then there were the 15... that I have TRIED to help... I have gotten
everything from "go fuck yourself" to "you're just an old man, what the
fuck do you know?" to "it's not like I actually care"... And when I said
mea culpa... i meant it... I am as socially retarded when trying to help as
I am when I am bashing...
I feel that part of it may be me... I deal with the public all day... and
the unoriginality there... then seeing the exact same thing said by every
newbie... is just too much...
and the forthcoming solution is simple... *puts the lap top down and walks
away for a few weeks* ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

sounds like you have hit on a wise course of action for when the shit gets
to be too much and I am following your example.

Oh, dear. Feral, have you really been called an old man? How ridiculous
can some thirteen year-olds get? I'll bet you're not even thirty. You can
take me under your knowledgable wing anytime and I'll be damn grateful.
I've seen your photography skills and your posts here on the forums and
anyone who can't respect that is a total choad. Same goes for Monolycus,
who I personally think is one the most thoughtful, insightful, and
intelligent people here on Shmeng. I haven't read anything by Mono that
didn't seem well thought on beforehand and articulate. I've been wanting
to say that for a bit, but felt too silly to do so before.
Hee hee... choad. There's something I haven't said in ages...
Bettie: I like your sub-culture idea, except for the vegan part. I'm such
a poser I would join it if it weren't for the vegan thing. I like
meat, I really, really do. But then if I did fall into that crowd I'd wind
up turning it into a cult instead of a sub-culture and there'd be lots of
eunuchs running around drinking poisoned punch en masse and it'd be such a
damn mess... Well, let's just be glad I'm too lazy for social identity
make-overs. ____________________ Today's liberals are tomorrow's conservatives. When my generation is the

I have no use for corpses or eunics. Corpses don't provide income for "the
cause", and eunics are boooooring. Besides, since it's so sub that even
*I* won't join, nobody else is allowed either. It'll be a sub culture that
only "the" people KNOW about, but nobody is a PART of. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |
