I have found a great deal of trouble trying to find myself a group of
ordinary people to just sit down and have a conversation with. my peers are
just far to juvenile, that or the a.d.d runs rapid in my town. I also cant
speak with my elders, because I’m not of enough intelligence to converse
with them. I find myself in a dilemma. stuck in what seems to be a gap of
intelligence through the years. a 'maturity limbo'.
This all came to my attention tonight when I was in a heated discussion
about the free trade agreement. being one of the few people who is poor in
a rich town sitting down and talking to them revealed their stupidity.
their unknowing bliss toward the rest of the world who doesn’t have money
was incredible. the only thing that struck me as to being more ignorant
that that was their lack of caring toward the less fortunate.
the only thing that has been able to bridge this gap other than my rants to
myself late at night has been talking to the masses gathered at shmeng.
realizing all of this makes my terribly unhappy to think that I will be
doomed to wallow in my own personal anti-social limbo until I find people
who can converse about the same things as I.
I posted to see if anyone out there had any situations similar to myself
and if there is anything you can do other than just waiting it out. Thank
you for reading, and please excuse my lack of ability to convey my thoughts
clearly.

I think I'm in "maturity limbo" too. I'm not sure I can offer you any
valuable advice though, I just tend to do small-talk with the people my age
and sit around and listen when I'm with the older ones.

You're right, you are far more intelligent than anybody else. Well done.

I'm not. I just don't share many discussion topics with peers of my
intelligence. Which are quite many. And yeah, now I realise I sounded like
an idiot.

Well how do you fancy discussing the historical imagination in nineteenth

Many of us have lived through this "maturity limbo". I still have a
similar problem during family get togethers, but what you need to do is
find something you all can talk about. Instead of you having to talk all
of the time, why don't you take the opportunity to listen to the older
people in your life which you say you cannot hold a conversation with. See
if there is something that might apply to your life right now, or in the
future. See what you can learn about the world around you. Even if the
older people in your life are idiots, you can think in your head of ways to
avoid their stupidity in your own life. As far as younger people go, be a
teacher to them. They need to learn as much as you do. If there is
something in a conversation you know something about, put your input out
there and see if you receive a response. If the person corrects you, have
them explain the correction. If you don't understand something, have
someone explain it to you so you might understand and you might even be
able to participate in the conversation a little more. Don't be afraid
about not understanding something. I still don't know a lot of things, but
when I don't, I ask. Questioning the world around us is what helps us to
learn. Constantly be a teacher or a student to the world around you while
you have time.

thank you for your responses. not I will be able to deal with it in more of
a intelligent fashion than just sitting there like an idiot not saying
anything.

Fuck the maturity limbo. Try. Forget about looking like an idiot if you say
the wrong thing to the wrong person. If you arent intelligent enough to
talk to older people then it isnt a maturity thing, and if you are then
maturity doesnt matter. There are plenty of fucking stupid adults around
just like there are idiot brats all over the place and it is only the
authority automatically conferred upon them by their superior age that
prevents them from being gunned down where they stand whenever they open
their imbecile mouths.
Now back onto my point, if you don't just dive into the deep conversations
then you will hear a lot of people's opinions and never get to express your
own. People will understand that you cannot necessarily express yourself in
as sophisticated a way and will also know that you havent the experience
that age brings, but a naive opinion should be just as welcome as a cynical
one in an open discussion.

I can only have a conversation with those who I respect and those who dont
shit me to tears....i dont like having conversations with pissed
people/drunk people....or stupid people unless they have a point. Seeing
someone in a state of being drunk annoys me at how stupid we can be.

Mind you. drunk people can be funny as long as your not actually talking to
them, they just wander and hurt themselves.

Sorry kiddo that we all got so side tracked so quickly here...
suggestions for surviving the brain dead:
read things.
not just books, and certainly not just serious books. read silly things and
comics and the opinion pages of the newspapers. read political rants by
people with degrees and people with 9th grade educations. see if you can
really tell a difference.
read pult fiction books from the turn of the century and before (they are
at the library, if you take the time to look, and there are websites where
you can read them for free) and see just how much and how little the
western world has changed in 100 years. Read history books and conspiricy
books (the biggest secret and the lives of roman emperors are both worth a
glace). learn to see the difference, and more importantly the similarity,
between the past, the present, and the future.
listen to talk shows, the stranger the better, and take notes so you can
check up on the references they make to things you dont know about yet.
listen to NPR and that man that talks about aliens taking over the world.
Listen to Rush limbaugh and the other talking heads for anger and hate.
Learn to hear the difference between fact and emotion and hope.
People watch. not just at cafes where everyone is putting on a show because
they know everyone else is watching, but also at the supermarket, the
parking lot, and the dentists waiting room. watch people try to live thier
real lives and the lives they think they want to be leading. learn to see
the difference between illusion, make up, and perception.
accept that some people are there to look at, some to talk to, and some to
love and that there is no single person out there that will be all these
things to you, except in your mirror.
and when you get really bored.... go to chat rooms and offer unpopular
opinions (like satanism in the xian chatrooms, chastity in the sex rooms,
and libritarian politics in the democratic party chat rooms). or
masterbate... its about the same thing.

so talk to them and try to pick out there false truths? that makes sense (
if that’s what you were trying to say). and as far as reading goes, I real
a lot already, that seems to be one of my few sanctuaries.

callei, all of those things are immense fun, but i think a little more
subtlety in the chatrooms can be even more fun. ive done the trolling
thing, as you well know, but i have found it far more entertaining to bring
things out of people. try sparking a huge argument in a death metal
chatroom by picking up on something unjustifiably discriminatory (it will
happen) and gently prodding that nerve until a whole room is afire with
accusations of homosexuality, ethnic origins (particularly amusing since
there is no way of knowing) and puerile comments about family members. its
far more rewarding watching them do it to themselves.
or how about something a little non-sequitarial, like libertarian politics
in a satanist room, or chastity in the democracy party room. see if anyone
can figure out where the hell it came from.
little national difference thing here, how old is ninth grade?
also could you post one of the sites from which i can view pulp novels at
no charge. i keep getting 'if you wish to see what happens after chapter
three, now that you have begun to care about what happens, subscribe to us
for only $20 a month, ono.' repeatedly shouting 'BUT YOU SAID IT WAS FREE'
at my laptop has done nothing to further my access to the novels.
finally, (nitpicking, but only because i care) libertarian, not
libritarian. and JS mills definive work on the subject 'on liberty' is a
great place to start learning about it, if you dont already know about it
paleface.

Oooh, you're going to hate me for this, but you spelled ignorant
incorrectly... I'm such an ass.
But seriously, we've all been there. I find most people unappealing
conversationally and don't seem to comprehend what motivates other human
beings a great deal of the time. I feel sort of detached from the people
around me, and wonder how the hell we could have anything in common. It's
hard to find anyone on this planet to connect with, and often times when
you do, they wind up having to exit your life, leaving you sort of
stranded. Having a brain that makes you creative, imaginative, and
intellectually curious can be a draw back in a youth culture that values
the plastic existence of Barbie and Ken in their vapid persuit of the
perfect bleached-out looks, the coolest car their parents can by, and whose
only concern is scoring with babes and frat parties.
