One of the random things that popped into my head about 10 mins ago.
What does a dragon symbolise for different people?
Whether it be nothing, something of a myth, or something else.
Just curious thats all.

All I know is that it is the only mythological figure which appears in the
folklaw of every civilisation in the world (apart from vampires of course).
Incidentally, while I'm relpying to your post Moinlen: nice to meet you.
You seem like a pleasant, well-rounded individual who is not here simply to
swear at people whenever they raise their heads to speak. So far your posts
seem interesting and I look forward to hearing more from you!

Cheers mate, I have been around a bit. Kinda busy
with work though.
I see what you mean, but do you see it as a powerful myth figure, one that
changed many cultures, or just something that was there and sometime
visited among topics.

jormangund - a giant snake, dragons - huge lizard appearing things,
mythical salamanders - fire breathing lizards, lizard gods, crocodile gods.
even a snake in the bible. it seems to me that the only consistently
mythologised giant creature is the reptile.
there are others, the roc - a bird, giant squid, which may or may not
exist. ive never been entirely clear, heheh. anyways. there seems to be
something irredeemably alien to the human [syche about the lizard. even
spiders, the hated feared spider, is left in the lurch. they are creepy
enough without being made to breath fire and fly around.
and the breathing fire is another thing that i think is interesting. It
seems to be only lizards that do it, and as cold blooded creatures they
rely on heat. is this just coincidence or did the 'ancients' know more than
we give them credit for. this is the sort of thing that gives conspiracy
theorists ammunition for their talk of the atlanteans passing on their
superior knowledge through myth.
as far as dragons relate to me, i think they are a beautiful image and a
powerful mythological symbol.
oh, and kitty goes mreow. you seem to need a nice acid bath.

It seems to be annually or at least regular in its occurance. The Aztecs
had them emerging from the jungle at a certain time every year. The
Chinese, of course, celebrate then every year on New Years. The Dragons in
English folklaw return every year or so for the offering of a maiden or
whatever. I'm am sure the connection goes further.

heh I see what you mean....I never thought about it like
that before....Maybe the breathing fire has something to do with a gland
that mixes chemicals together and on contact with air...shabang..an
absolute mother fucker of a fireball. I suppose being a reptile and
breathing fire could help.
Dont forget the Griffin as a creature...it was always higher sort after.
The unicorn was another, quite well known and sort after, but not so
mythological as the dragon. And the Lockness Monster...i like that
story.
Abbadon: It is prob just some sick, perverted Monks idea of
fun...nevertheless, it was always attention grabbing all those years ago, i
am sure.

yeah, but these arent giant mythologised versions of already eisting
creatures. unicorns are hornéd horsies and gryphons, or griffins, or
griffons, or however the fuck you want to spell them, are a crazy
amalgamation. and also these creatures are not prevalent in so many
mythologies worldwide.

I'm glad you pointed that out, Moinlen, so I didn't have to. I don't think
Feral would have liked me saying that!

hence the reason I clarified my post... though I must admit... it
reinforces my point about a certain level of intelligence being required
here... I have checked with seceral other members... the progression was
logical, and obvious...

If it was obviuos why didn't I notice? And I don't think it was logical.
Please Look up the actual meaning of both those words before you come up
with a sarcastic retort.

oh jesus here we go again. And for the record, abb and woodie, you're
joined interest in giving her a chemical peel is far less warranted than
her concern for abbadon's colon health, as he was being kind of snotty and
crybaby and thought a good hot flush would chipper him up. Chill

ummm...
Mr. Woody, giant squid are very real, and infact, recent discoveries have
even shown us that a larger breed of squid is also living in the ocean
depths than previously thought.
