In another community website, which I'm a member of, it seems as though
everyone has a live journal - http://www.livejournal.com . I was just wondering if
many people here had one, because being the nosey git that I am, I'd love
to read them.
Maybe if there's enough demand, a livejournal community could be created as
well. (just an idea)

never understood the live journal thing... I don't want people reading my
every day life...

I like it because I can catch up with what my friends are up to, limit some
posts to friends only and keep the private stuff locked up. You don't have
to have your most intimate thoughts and feelings broadcast to the world.
And the communities are always fun. ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

I've got one, Psychopixi...but Feral is right, it can be full of intensely
personal things...
I really do like your idea, though. Maybe if we all had live journals to
rant in, the Karma Free Zone wouldn't be so popular. ____________________ "To Live is to Annoy." -- Rev. Lambert Reilly, Archabbot, St. Meinrad Abbey |

well... I have to say... while you don't have to put that kind of data in
there... so many people do... and while invasion of privacy is normally
active on the part of the viewer... it seems to me that these blogs and
live journals are almost an invasion of MY privacy... I don't want to know
what most people are thinking EVERY second of every day... but that is just
my 2 cents

Interesting take on it. I know that I definitely do the thought-splurge
thing. But I guess that if you don't wanna have other people reading your
thoughts, and you don't wanna know about their lives in such excrutiating
detail then it's a pretty damn unarguable reason for not having a journal. ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

Live Journal? That frggin CULT! It IS a cult yoo know! I know people who
are always talking to to thier friends in the flesh about their LJs. "Can
yoo believe so&so had the audacity to make that comment? Who the fuck
does s/he think s/he is?" I mean, it's all well and good to keep in
contact with yor friends, espcially accross the globe but something is
seriously messed up when people who see eachother every day can't stop
talking about their LJs. That being said, I should mention I'm a filthy
hypocrite. ____________________

I talk to my friends IRL. Then I make comments in the journals regarding
real life. It doesn't normally happen the other way - I don't talk to my
friends about their journals. ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

I have one too, and it's updated like, three times a year when I'm sick
enough to not be able to do anything else, but capable of making it as far
as the fridge, bathroom, and computer.
It is a cult, and it's admittedly fun to hit a nasty "group" and
collectively knot their skivvies over something retarded. I see it as a
slower version of going into yahoo's satan chat rooms drunk and picking
fights, only in LJ I get to do it to SCENESTERS because, well, they're
scenesters and they huddle...everywhere...even if it's not a physical
huddle.
I think they're fun if you use them for fuckery (like michael does) and
being a douchebag, or just for a quick update place for friends you don't
have the luxury of seeing all the time. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

I set up Shmeng Journals at one point. It got through the testing stage
and after a bunch of discussion between me and callei, the scripts were
deleted. We decided it was just a bad idea. I think the 2 things the
decided it were that we didn't want the liability if some kid posted that
he was gonna shoot his classmates or something - and that if we wanted
journal entries on the site, we could just quit deleting them out of the
articles inbox and post them. ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

Could there have been problems for you if people had posted stuff
like that then? Would sticking a vague, but ass-covering disclaimer
wherever you have to go to start one have got you out of the firing line?
</curiosity>
I can understand you not wanting journals on here though. This site isn't
for day to day shmeng like teen angst etc... Coincidentally on http://www.cymrugothic.net it's the respectable members
that have livejournals and keep their shmeng off the community site, and
the newbies that post various kinds of angst and trauma.
I think I'm just too curious (read: nosey) for my own good perhaps! ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

The trouble would be because this is a more personal site than LJ or DJ or
any of those. In the case of live journal, there is never anyone who is in
charge seen as actually taking a part in the site except to do updates.
Here on another hand, Dev is an active member as well as a sole Owner,
Callei is the editor and is seen as highly active. As such, the argumenmt
couls be made that they could have and probably did see anything that
happens. That would make them resposible to report anything untowards that
happened and leave them open to civil suit if nothing else (civil suits are
law suits that can be leveled and won even if no "law" has technically been
broken). ____________________ It is only through the lack of sex that humanity derives the need for an

Yowch Shade - I can see where that could cause all sorts of problems. I
hadn't thought of the fact that Devin would be more responsible that the
owner(s) of LJ because of the nature of the site.
And I *really* don't get civil law suits! What kind of thing could you be
prosecuted for, and how could be prosecuted at all if you've not broken any
laws? ____________________ Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life. |

Glerk! *slight choking noise*
That's effing ludicrous! Couldn't people then decide to sue for things like
"she looked at me the wrong way", or "I walked into the wall, and I want to
sue the person who put it there"? I mean, where does the line get drawn?
How could a sane jury decide to award money for claims like that?
What basis do they make their decision on - "that could happen to me some
day, cause I'm a dull git too, and I'd like to cash in should it happen so
we'll give her the cash to set a precedent"?!?! No, sorry, they
probably wouldn't understand the word "precedent"!
"an old lady spilled some coffee into her wrinkled white-haired twat,
and besides being the first warmth or moisture that has been there since
the Ottoman Empire fell"
I laughed so hard at this that I nearly spat my drink at the computer
screen. *grins*
