Alright, one common thread that Iīve detected amongst people I can usually relate to is a thing for toys. Be they toys that go bang, buzz or throb. I wannaī know what kindaī toys you guys got...and weither your creepy collectors, or the types that actually get down and dirty.
Like me, Iīm a complete freaking GI Joe nut...back in the day, many were the times Cobra commander and destro completely wiped out She-Raīs castle (My little sister hated that)...or Snake Eyes totally kicked the crap out of that crotchless pantywaist Ken when blondie found out olī silent but deadly was sleepinī with barbie...and midge.
In light of newer cooler, scarier toys that have come out...like todd mcfarlane and all his good stuff, or those living dead dolls. Here is where we discuss our beloved stuff, and talk about what we do, or did with them.
May the games begin.

Oh... I thought you were talking about those -other- toys...

Anyway, I was really addicted to legos... Couldnīt have too many. I loved building castles and spaceships... I started disliking them when the company started stretching thin with its yearning for novelty... I mean, ice planet was alright, but the underwater crap pushed me over the edge... The good old days of legos were probably when I was about 5 (c. 1990) Those were fun times! They had all sorts of knights, on horses, and you had little robin-hood type dudes, and such. I loved them. And the Magnetron! Oh, how I played with those, and envisioned all the things I could do with those little magnets...
I had a few Carribean sets, just like a pirate and a monkey and such... My brother got most of the modern-day themed legos... I dunno why. I still have all of my legos. Most are lost somewhere in my brotherīs room. When I was about 10 my dad posed a ban on purchases of new lego sets for this reason. But I already had a good size collection, enough to keep me going.
I donīt play with them that much anymore. Occassionally Iīll get creative and whip something together, but itīll be broken down and forgotten the next day. Nothing substantial. But it is still pretty fun to try and build feats of engineering... Like building a bridge from one kitchen counter to the opposite sideīs one. Or building the tallest single-block-wide tower you can. I loved those...

Next in line were the ninja turtles... I had a few figures, but my mother was smart, and (realizing it was just a passing fad) didnīt buy me too many. I only recieved about four or five of them, but I played with them a lot, mostly just to keep up with the other kids who had larger collections. Bah on fads, I say!

Nowadays, pretty much my computer is my toy. I play with it in all my freetime, mostly. Next in line is the guitar, and perhaps my backyard. Its mildly fun in my backyard *shrug*

Note:hahaha! Staying up all night until 7am paid off! I get to be first to post a reply to Dolorosaīs topic! While eating Top Ramen! *giggles insanely*

And I just noticed that my post numbers are nearing the bicentennial mark. Iīll have to celebrate... *giggles some more*

I still collect stuffed animals tho, my husband and I have TONS of them. While we do love our stuffed animals.. we dont *love* our stuffed animals if you get my drift. Lol...About 1/3 of the bed is populated by the things. They all have names and personalities.

I agree with you guys on the leggo thing...LOVED leggos, and linkin logs too...they are the worldīs oldest manufactured toy "game", know that?
I liked the jumbo leggos the best, the generic ones in the big tubs.
And Cooties...remember those? Little put together bugs? My barbies didnīt last long, my older sister taught me they were more fun when you cut their hair mass short and colored stripes with markers.
My little ponies were my gig...LOVED my ponies. Still have them too, just in the garage waiting for my kids someday *gak*
I do remember one toy that Iīd have DIED for was the He-man Skeletor castle with the slime...my mom was ADAMANT that I not have it..I wanted it so bad..that and transformers..."boys toys" she called them. Bah.
Did you guys know that they are re releasing the old toys of our past? Yup, he man, transformers, my little ponies, strawberrry shortcake....the toy industry is taking a plunge and want to go "retro" to save their asses. Woo Hoo I say, skeletor castle here I come!

Whoah...I remember the slime chamber thingie...it had a lock down chair, so he-man couldnīt get away and then you oozed him. I donīt remember the reason WHY you oozed him...all I remember is a hamster fit pretty well into that lock down chair.
And I remember why my mom took it away from me...apparently the slime stuff doesnīt come out...OF ANYTHING...including my sisters hair.
How it got in their I have not the slightest clue.

I still have a lego pirate ship. If I had to pick something, Iīd take it over my computer any day.

Iīm a bit disappointed with legos nowadays, you canīt buy any generic peices in the stores, you have to special-order all the old stuff too. The legos you see nowadays have almost completely robbed kids of imagination; Lord of the Rings lego figures are small rubber-plastic replicas with moveable joints that look more like G.I. Joes than old lego figurines.
But legos are the key to unlocking a childīs imagination. Most other toys keep them within the realms of certain imaginations; barney dolls still are barney at the end of the day, but legos you can build worlds. Creation is given to the hand of the child, and they can build outside the realm of television or games or whatever constraints society has placed upon them into almost surreal landscapes.
I lost all my legos to the test of time, save that ship, which I lost the instructions for(a real pity, considering callei and shade just love to move things around and "accidentally" drop it on the floor) so I have to re-build it from memory, but Iīm happy I got to grow up with them.

One good thing Iīll say about legos...is that once you master the various combinations and colors...fucking with genetics is like, one half step away.
You can tell what a kids going to turn out like by his favorite toys.
GI Joe=military psycho.
My Little Ponies=Dark, scary but cute CoS grrl.
Mutilated Barbies= Eerily insightful person
Legos= Mad Fucking scientist...

When I was about 10, my stepdad locked all of our toys up in the garage, and wouldnīt let us have them back. So my little stepbrother and I would find little odds and ends, like pretty rocks, misc. machinery parts, and old bullet casings, and would pretend the ones you could stand on end were "people" and the other things were various props. we also had a few legos that avoided incarceration... we called our game "little people" and made up lots of adventures... I guess those were my favorite toys. not that I had much choice in the matter, but it was still pretty cool when I look back on it.

before then I guess I liked little playsets, like playmobil and things like that. I always liked just creating my own little world, and determining the actions of the little people in my hands...

so that makes me a dark but cute eerilly insightful CoS girl?
But I wanna be a mad scientist *pouts*
Toys nowadays do rob kids of their imaginations. Really...itīs to the point of ridiculousness. I mean hell, how many variations of barbie, GI joe, spangly fangly sparklinī talk nī walk nī rollerblading pop star karaoke magic makeup superdupereasybakinī moon walkinī new and improved turnyourchildtounimaginativeoatmealwadsitīllbebrokeandtheyīllloseinterestth reedaysafterxmasandsitinaboxintheircloset crap can they MAKE?!!!
My 7 year old nephew on my husbands side can maneuver the finer workings of a plastation and can recite movie lines from hannibal but doesnīt know what fucking linkinī logs are? He doesnīt own leggos! He plays video games! All day!
He gets excited when he comes to visit me because I donīt HAVE video games...he gets to draw with my good colored pencils, he gets read to, he helps me cook, he plays with his imagination. Thatīs IT. And he LOVES it...but mom wants him to be good and quiet and veg out in front of the video games so she wonīt have to bother with him.
I think thatīs what it is...people donīt want their kids to play because then they donīt act like miniature replicas of them. They donīt want them to be loud, to ask questions, to be challenged. They want them NICE and QUIET!
Bring on the blocks...only now I use īem for THROWING.

Iīd like to give my child only toys that require imagination and creativity to play with. But at the same time I must admit that I really enjoy playing my friendīs PS2. Maybe Iīll just keep that for special occasions or rainy days or something. Although for those rainy days, Iīd rather have a padded room with a trampoline for a floor. Let the kid work off its energy, and then give it some construction paper and crayons.

As for my childhood, I had a small collection of red-headed dolls which I used to strip and perform grisly tortures on involving pins and red marker. The child psychologists would have had a heyday with me.

Hey Schizo, if you get that padded room/trampoline set up, can I use it during the sunny days? I used to love trampolines. My dad set up one of the eight foot ones about a year before I moved out and I probbly spent more time on that thing than any other toy Iīve had with the exlusion of a computer, and my body is definately lamenting the lack of physical expression these days. And the computer gets a boost because I work on it too.

Physically taxing toys are something we need more of these days, figureinges are great , but like card games they donīt do alot for the spreading middle of the youth today. as a nation th US is experiencing onheard of rates of obesity (Read: 90%) and alot of that is landing on the kids. Itīs not a pretty idea, but maybe Iīll worry about once Iīve finished this level of Final Fantasy 8

If I ever get that trampoline room, Shade, you are most certainly invited to use it whenever you want! Maybe we can get Callei to organize a trampoline orgy!

Why a trampoline? Why not make the whole room a jump-house, so that you could hit the sides, too. And then you could also work with a friend to pump the air. (resulting in super-high jumps) I love jump houses. I just wish those people would let me do what I want in it. No wrestling my ass....

Thatīs a great idea, Ironboots! And besides orgies, we could pipe in some good music over some high-quality amps, and turn it into a mosh pit every so often!
