I remembered how you get points for every single thing you contribute to
this site. I wonder, though. Would it be a problem if anyone was able to
see their own score (away from the top 30 list) in something like their
profile or account? Probably not the best of ideas, but doesn't hurt to
ask, eh? Nothing big...just a thought.
PS: Maybe there's a way to do it and I havent' discovered it yet, but if
not, thought I'd throw this idea out.

Just an opinion- any desperate attempts to make petty points and get on the
top 30 list will probably be appreciated, but it seems like it will be
worth it's weight in shit as of now. The people on the list at the moment
were probably there since the thing started. That is where their value
comes from. It's not a race anyhow. Quality- not quantity.
Think, experience, think again, then write some articles. Think, write
again, think some more and proof read, then spell check. Try to write over
a page- unless it truly and honestly doesn’t need it. Have someone else
read it, and get their full opinion. Now read it with one eye open- that
will help see errors. Spell check again, and now you have an article that
is probably priceless, and will earn you a spot where anyone with eyes and
ears can get to it. That is worth more than several shitty articles (and
useless points) that are one paragraph long- that probably won’t make
it.
I myself still think I suck, and always find errors after I write, think
proof read, rinse and repeat and (eek) do the end deed and post. I make it
a point to improve myself every time I write; I watch for errors, and I
think of my audience, if necessary.
I have never had an article rejected. Maybe the editor had a slippery
finger and published it; maybe I just got lucky. But I always focus on
quality, and that makes a great article that’s refreshing, revealing, and
people may just want to read the damn thing. ____________________ The OBOLISK is Divine. |

Yeah, I guess I'm fairly new compared to a lot of people here. Just
worried that I do not contribute enough to the site, is all.

You have to admit, though - it'd be a nice ego stroker for those who need
it, hehe.

To my understanding, it's not that you have to contribute enough, but to
contribute. That again involves quality. Like contributing as in towards
the intellectual atomosphere, not the word factory.

As far as quality goes, I think Anya has done pretty well. I think this was
a great suggestion, too. It would be fun for people to see just how close
they are to the "top 30" Quite a few people who were not here since the
beginning are on it, and there are others who were here since the beginning
who are not. It doesn't make them any more or any less valued as members. I
also think that when these housecleanings occur, a lot of people get
apprehensive for no good reason. We really don't have that many people I
would consider to be non-valuable here. Most of you who think the axe is
aimed directly at your neck, have no reason to worry. Being shy is not a
reasonable reason to be shut out. Of course, this being an online
community, you have to say something eventually, or you're invisible and no
one can get to know you at all, let alone judge you. You're doing fine,
Anya, and so are a lot of other people. Everybody just relax. ____________________

Awww thanks MJ.
I try to put in what I can. Not just normal chatting but philosophy and
all that fun stuff when possible. Just sometimes I worry that what I do is
not enough. Maybe I analyze too much.

It's already there. Click on User Info in the blue bar at the top. Then
look at the number next to "points" ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

Sometimes, i often refrain from saying what i would like to say because
people beat me to the punch and i dont contribute sometimes because of
this. it just seems silly to post the same thing over and over just to get
"points".
