"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to
battle - be Thou near them! With them - in spirit - we also go forth from
the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God,
help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to
cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help
us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded,
writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane
of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with
unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little
children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags
and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and icy winds of
winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge
of the grave and denied it - for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast
their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make
heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow
with the blood of their wonded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of
Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever faithful refuge and
friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite
hearts. Amen." -Mark Twain
Hell yeah! Gotta love the Twain! ____________________ "People always say what we are looking for is a meaning for life…I don't

The best part is that all the gothlings who think they're the first goths
ever - and all the old scenesters who think that there was no goth before
the '70's - and all the kids who think old people can't be goth - they've
all been outgothed by a 168 year old. ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

And even Mr. Twain was given a run for his money by a Jewish carpenter
roughly 2K years before his time *sigh*

My favorite Twain quote would have to be the "I never vote for politcians,
it only encourages them." ____________________ Okay, dazzle me. |

God, I love that one. It's one of the favorites in my education classes. ____________________ Okay, dazzle me. |

To be good is noble, but to show others how to be good is nobler, and no
trouble.
All gods are better than their conduct.
All say, "How hard it is that we have to die"--a strange complaint to come
from the mouths of people who have had to live.
In America -- as elsewhere -- free speech is confined to the dead.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist, except an old optimist.
Familiarity breeds contempt -- and children.
Some of my favorites. |

I'm not sure if I'm getting it exactly, but one of my favorites is
something to the effect of:
"Faith is believing something you know just ain't true." ____________________ "I've told you before, I don't comprehend religion, although
conviction is a concept I'm beginning to get. In any case, a person
with a real religious conviction is, I propose, a religious convict,
and deserves locking up." |
