Articles: Stereotyping and Drinkers of Blood |

Well as some of you have read, there is a forum out talking about the drinking of blood. Well, that in general just frickin disgusted me to find out that people do that. I can tolerate some things in this world that are pretty off the wall but that is just gross. The fascination of Vampires does intrigue me to a point, but I would not go as far as to drink someone else’s blood. Is there really such a sub-culture that people go around and drink the blood of other humans?
First off as I stated in the forum, the ingestion of more then 50cc/ml of raw blood in the digestive tract will cause the stomach acids to react to the base of the blood coming in and soon cause you to feel sick and then vomit. Plus there is so much nastiness in the world of diseases, that alone is probably worse then unprotected sex.
I’ve heard about people getting implants in the teeth to look sharp and even some filing them down to get sharp. Now what is the purpose of that? I am a very open minded person, so open minded that I don’t even understand myself half the time. But through all my babbling my main question is why? Why would someone think that the consumption of blood is “cool” or “hip”? It is out right disgusting!
I do though, as stated above, that I have a slight fascination with the Vampire myths and story’s. Dolo has taught me a lot of about the “history” of Vampires and all that good stuff, but I could never find myself at the neck of some female wanting to do more then a little nibble or a kiss. Come on, I thought that some people in this world would have better things to do then try and find new ways of transmitting one’s diseases.
Now when I was talking with someone tonight at work about this he said, and I quote: “Well, isn’t that what you ‘Goth’ people do anyway, run around like Vampires and bite people?” And then he walked away giggling. (I’m pretty sure Dolo has a good idea who I’m talking about.) For starters on that I do not consider myself Goth, and I never have. I do where black and is clinically depressed…BUT!! That is beside the point. I really got pissed at that comment for one thing. Stereotyping! That shit just pisses me off like nothing else. I’ve always gotten along with Goth kids when I was in high school but never chose to go that extra step. The people that I have met on here I have come to respect because everyone is there own person here without the fear of stereotyping or discrimination. Do people do that to up themselves in life and make them feel better? Everything is a way of life and most should be respected.
Just had these things on my mind. Thanks!
- Morte Ascendo

This was probably being written just as I was giving my PSA in the "this is all so new to mee" thread. Besides the risk of infection I described in the thread, there's 2 more reasons to refrain from having someone bite yor neck: The colotid artery and the jugular vein. Breaching either of these can easily result in death before the paramedics are even dispatched.
I can understand the attraction to it. I've always kind of fantasized about having a woman bite my neck until I bleed and slurp away the blood but I've also fantasized about immasculation and I SURE AS HELL WOULD NEVER DO THAT!
I mean, erotic vampirism is far far stupider than erotic asphyxiation and I'm sure it's nowhere near as intense of a climax. DISCLAIMER: Don't try asphyxiation either.

Yes.. people *do* drink blood, but they don't generally go around biting each other's necks to do it. It can be dangerous.. but so can sex. Just like sex, the people that enjoy erotic vampirisim need to get themselves tested regularly and be careful about who they play with. Some people take it *very* seriously, some people just like the taste of blood and the intimacy that comes along with sharing blood. It's another bodily fluid, like spit, semen, or vaginal secretions, and people swap spit and go down on each other all the time. If people are careful about it, like anything else, it's not so dangerous.
I agree, it's not right for people to think that *all* goths do that sort of thing..and you have every right to be grossed out by it.. but there are much scarier branches on the tree or perversion, I tell you that much. The way I see it, as long as the people involved are truely hurting anyone (as in permanent physical or mental damage.) and as long as those involved are all cool with it.. whatever floats your boat. SSC.. Safe, Sane, and consentual.

I don't think that drinking other people's blood is disgusting, it holds no personal appeal to me, but the thought doesn't sicken me. I don't mind the taste of blood either - I'm another one of those people who'll quite happily suck the blood from a cut.
As to the saftey of drinking other people's blood I think that most people who are serious about doing it *will* take the necessary health and saftey precautions. I know they also don't take from the neck; they know that's dangerous. I figure that if they know what they're doing then it's up to them. I wouldn't say they had any bigger 'problems' that other people who are into BDSM. It's just another personal fetish.
The stereotype that goths drink blood and act like vampires has to be one of the most annoynig things ever though! I hate that people think that, but when I say 'Umm... no...' they just ignore it. *Shrugs*

If I'm going to drink someone's blood, chances are, it'll be directly from the heart of someone that I really don't like, and it will be the last theing that they ever get to see. Following which, I will promptly brush my teeth.

Yeah. That stuff is just sick. I mean if you really need to drink blood to live, that's different...but really wanting to do it and think it's cool, yuck. Big yucky.
I have a vampire obsession myself, but I would not go as far as trying to drink another person's blood. As for that stereotyping thing, that ticks me off as well - I can like vampires without being "Goth" or a "Satanist" or <insert stupid stereotype here>.

I have a friend who drinks blood. it's scary. he bit me on the hand once and it FUCKING HURT I drink blood sometimes, but I don't actually bite people. and I never drink much of course. the reason that blood makes you sick is because it has so many nutrients that people arn't used to. the strange thing about my friend is he only tries to bite me and not other people. I don't mind the sharp teeth. I even think it's beautiful, but actually using them bothers me. I don't mind people drinking blood from cuts but people who bite others (and people who are willingly bitten) kind of weird me out.
anyway I don't think what I have written contributed to this thread much so I'll go now...

Way to be open minded Morte, just because it's outside the realm of your knowledge and it doesn't turn you on does not mean it's a bad thing...
-Just my nit picking of the week.

When it comes down to it, blood drinking/fetishising is around...whether it's two consenting adults that find it arousing, or a bunch of doped up teenage vampire idiot wannabe dropouts, people will have their opinions and comfort levels. SOme want to stop it (for whatever reasons: health, religion, social/emotional/moral concern etc), some want to DO it, and some are content to just say "leave me out...you kids have fun"
It's a personal issue, a practice that I PERSONALLY find icky and unnecessarily dangerous, but I'm not about to butt into others behind the doors practices (unless of course it's with unwilling/underage participants).
But the next filthy little mallrat that bares his plastic fangs at me and asks me if I'm into Rocky or "bloodletting" is going to be EATING those same said fangs and a few other teeth and body fluids.
Lumping them in with all "goths" is ridiculous.
It's like saying we're all satanists.
Or xian.
Or into death.
Or into murder.
Or into drugs.
You get it.
I don't find it fascinating or sexy, but on that same line very few also find my interests fascinating or sexy...and I don't expect them to.
When you hang your laundry and business out for others to see, some are going to take a whack.
If it's personal, what's wrong with keeping it personal? Everything, if it's to get attention, which is what a LOT of these "vampire" kids are out to get....not to lump all you little "rice-ers" together, mind you. But you know who I'm talking about....
