Drama: Tragic fatal flaws |
Posted by
Anonymous-Coward on Monday, November 25, 2002 - 04:38 PM PST
I’ve been lurking here a while and still haven’t signed up with a name, but I’ve read just about every article, and talked to a lot of you on messengers. I was just thinking about how my anonymity makes me the perfect person to point out all of the ironic tragic flaws in each of you. I know I risk being a troll here, so let me assure you right up front that there is no malice. I know the inevitable flaming will be vicious and I am ready for it. I have my flame retardant underwear on, and I will be laughing at the irony rather than cringing no matter how biting your comments. Shall we get started?
A Tragic Flaw is a literary device used to make a larger than life character seem more sympathetic and real. The fact that a person has one should flatter them. Being larger than life is goth as fuck. And as for me pointing them out – keep in mind that only a friend will tell you when you’ve got something between your teeth.
I actually started with Devin, callei and ickgirl, but decided that would make it seem like I’m attacking this site (for those who are going to see this as an attack - which it is not), so I’ve bumped them down a few. So in no particular order otherwise, here we go.
Bettie_x – wants to be seen as hard, mean and wicked while living the most normal and socially acceptable lifestyle possible.
Alugarde – Doesn’t quite understand that other people don’t bond as quickly as he does. It takes time to make friends. A person who expects them instantly will make people push you away rather than get closer.
Cashmere – Way too old to be stuck in such a young body. Poor girl.
Closetgothbabe – lets boredom get the better of her and lower her standards – Plays down all of her cool parts to fit in with people who aren’t as good as she is, and ends up not meeting the cool people because of it.
Callei – Arrogant and Vain. If anyone else were this arrogant and vain everyone would hate them. Fortunately for callei, everything she thinks about how great she is is absolutely true. But arrogance and vanity are still flaws. Being so cool it creates flaws is ironic don’t ya think?
Comedian – right at the age where people think they know everything. Also right at the age where people try to break away from their families and get out on their own, but aren’t quite there yet. This is a pretty dangerous combination if you think about it.
Rae – Scorpio temper all the way. It’s a good thing her heart’s made out of gold or it would get incinerated by those flare ups. Be careful though, gold has a lower melting point than most metals.
Poison – tries not to care about anything but secretly does – tries not to get attached to people but secretly does. Shhhh…
Sindel – Typical Capricorn – comes off as arrogant and narcissistic and pretends not to care what anyone thinks, and not to need anyone’s approval, but secretly would die without that approval, so she tries to get it any way she can. The irony is – it’s a good thing she’s cute so she gets that attention, but if she wasn’t cute she probably wouldn’t need it.
Rogue – Rogue can flirt with anyone so well that it’s impossible to tell when he’s serious and when he’s playing. Maybe that’s a Capricorn thing too.
Meranda_Jade – falls in love at the drop of a hat. It can’t be good for you to be in love with EVERYBODY.
Litho – her problem is that she’s too young to have listened to the smiths extensively. “Shyness is nice, but… Shyness can stop you – from doing all those things in life you’d like to”
Ickgirl – How can a Sagittarius have that Pisces detachment? Whenever things get too intense for a Pisces, they change the subject and hide – It keeps them from getting wounded, but it’s impossible to get close to them. Sagittarius’s are supposed to be fine with intensity not hide. Weird
Dolorosa – Where to even start – you’re a piece of work boy. You’re way too brilliant to exist in this world, and I guess you deal with it how you can, but they’ve really done a number on you.
Morte_ascendo – likes to be around people more brilliant and amazing than himself. This isn’t really a flaw, I kinda wish more people wanted to be around those that are smarter than then – but it’s all I could come up with cause he’s such a nice guy.
Vampcourt – How’s that east coast attitude workin for you on the west coast girl? They do things a little differently out there don’t they?
Devin – Leo with a Sagittarius rising and cancer moon – that sums it up. Poor guy. He gets way too attached to people for his lifestyle and lovestyle – the Leo attention thing, and the Sagittarius eccentricity does not go well with the cancer attachment. Tragic.
Shade – doesn’t seem to have any flaws at all. This worries me. A lot.
Mara – wants to be things she is not – and is things she doesn’t want to be. Shame she doesn’t want to be all her cool things.
Necromancer – Does not learn her lessons quick enough and tries to make other people happy at her own expense. Those 2 end up feeding each other and making it seem like she has no choices. It’s hard to be happy that way.
Arthegarn – This one is obvious – way too old fashioned for the world he is living in. Things don’t work that way in this century – but it’s cute that he tries.
Schizo – can’t learn from other people’s mistakes – has to make her own.
Sticcipus – sex isn’t everything kiddo.
MistressRavenDarque04 – You’ve had a very sheltered life and I’m not sure you’re ready for the world you seem to be wanting to dive into.
Ianthe99 – Just needs some suitable toys, but can’t find them because her standards are too high.
Feralucce – You’re a pisces. You gotta quit trying to act like a scorpio. It’s not natural and doesn’t suit you.
Monolycus – People are not out to get you – there are no spy satellites reading your brainwaves. You can take the tin foil off of your head. Really.
Gothvail – It’s a good thing you’ve got someone to make your decisions for you.
Kat_vamp – There is much more to life than “the Scene” – experimentation and boundary pushing might be a good idea, but don’t push the usual boundaries – find new ones.
IamSquid – If a squid eats too much he can give himself brain damage.
ThatOneWastedChick – Too brilliant to be 13, but still has the hormones. It’s too bad people can’t learn to pay attention to when they’re being brilliant and when their hormones are talking and making them sound young. It must be hard to tell the difference from the inside.
BlueLinn – Why present yourself as average? You’re not fooling anybody. (Yes, pretending you are crazier than you are is average). It’s ok to be a little out of the ordinary – if anyone doesn’t approve, just blame it on being an artist.
Psychopixi – happy happy perky happy bounce bounce happy cheek-pinch bounce perk perk – If you ever decide to sell your batteries, I want to bid on them – until then, don’t expect anyone to keep up.
Kira – easily distracted and… wait what was I saying?
Mutant_Duckie – Real Klingons have no silly side.
Biko – Face it. There are prettier kitties. No really, there are.

Why, of course there are no spy satellites. That would just be silly. Those kinds of things don't happen in the real world.
Anyway, if I had a flaw, I would say it is that I am just too forgiving for my own good. If I had a flaw, mind you.
Really.

you left yourself out kiddo. No mirror casts a perfect reflection.
I sort of agree with your asessment in a half assed sort of way.
As for trying to be seen as hard, mean and wicked *lol*....most of my life has been spent working AROUND and THROUGH that, not enhancing it!
Ask my family, ask my friends, ask my co-workers.
And on the "leading as socially acceptable life as possible" bit.....I don't really care if it is or not, I do what makes me happy and content, and if it turns out to be boring or "socially acceptable" it is done without effort. I'll be the first to admit my life is boring...I keep it that way for a reason, but unfortunately I dont' always get my way and have a nice, easy, socially acceptable and quiet life.
I think before you cast judgment on others lives and personalities, get to know them first. The internet makes people brave, stupid, and brash, and it's always hard to tell who is really who. Most of the time you can't even tell what gender the other person is.
I can point out my own flaws...how 'bout you?
I agree with devin...post your name so the pummeling shall be done properly.

Re: Tragic fatal flaws by DarkMistress on Nov 27, 2002 - 03:53 PM (User info | Send a Message) | I bet the person who posted this has a huge zit on the middle of his or her forehead. There's one flaw. The personality flaw (although I wasn't targeted in this) is that this person tries to bring out the worst in people. That in itself can be a suicidial act. |

I prefer the term 'condescending'. Arrogant means that i think i am above others, better somehow, while condescending means that i think i am average and that others are less than average.
and condescention is so much more fun...

*nodding in general agreement* by Monolycus on Nov 25, 2002 - 09:53 PM (User info | Send a Message) | I'm with you, Shade. It didn't seem to me that anybody's character was assassinated outright (as for myself, you don't harbor the kind of deep-seated conspiratorial paranoia that I do and not get trivialised every so often for it). I was actually a little disappointed in places; Anonymity should give one license to be, at the very least, scathing. I did get several chuckles from the article, not the least of which was from the troll link our mysterious author so thoughtfully provided (not entirely sure how I made it this far without ever having read that!)
I think the sticky wicket here is the idea that someone who is "anonymous" would know us so well. I doubt very sincerely that s/he is quite as unfamiliar to us as s/he would have us believe... but then, I do tend to read too much into things. Maybe my tin foil hat is too tight.

O mysterious stranger, I admit that I am surprised to find my name on your list.
Distracted? Perhaps. But then again, I am a busy girl. Too busy to lurk on a site for hours only to formulate clever little jabs at everyone. I hate to say it, but I have flaws wayyyy more tragic than being a bit of a space cadet now and then.
You know, my grandmother used to say "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." Then again, my other grandmother used to say "fuck 'em if they can't take a joke." Find the cross somewhere between those two attitudes and you will get on just fine here.

Comedian 7/20/01 10:01 AM Why, son, I'm from Alaska. Didn't you read mah profile, boy?
Comedian 7/20/01 10:04 AM No son, there are no Goths in Alaska. We sleep with sheep dogs and wear heavy leather clothing. I don't think that counts as gothic, but you may consider differently. And we all are quite pale from being inside all the time, 'cause The nasty weather gives us excessive penile shrinkage.
God's 7/20/01 10:10 AM really?? u from alaska? cool i wish there be cold now in this israhell
God's 7/20/01 10:11 AM we're dying here and u can't even go 2 the sea, it's full of jelly fish...
Comedian 7/20/01 10:13 AM but it's so cold and nice in Alaska. And the sea in alaska is full of sperm whale semen. Would you like to come to Alaska and stay with me for a few weeks? That was the last I heard from God's Scapegoat. I do apologize to all Alaskans, people with sever penile shrinkage, chia pets, Italians and homosexuals.
The problem that I have with this thing-- aside from it having at least part of everyone's personality nailed down-- is the ignorant air of it. Um..I'm a pisces. I have the whole pisces detachment thing going. You think I try to make friends too fast? When the random internet mooks that I'm sure everyone has encountered (You know, the ones who message you for no apparent reason other than to say "Hi, I'm soandso, I'm from thatoneplace, what are you up to?") sends me a message, unless they say something interesting in the first 2 or 3 messages, my natural response is "Who the fuck are you and why are you bothering me?". How is that expecting friends too soon?

Maybe you are slightly right. I am bored often but that isnt hard for me to get bored. I do have alot of cool and nice friends that are wonderful people. I dont get to see them often cause they live far away. I have what I need which is my best friend (Kel) and she is everything to me whether its cool or not she is a doll (until she gets that bitch streak in her) . I can see what you are saying but I dont think its completly correct. I am one of those people that dont like doing the same thing all the time. I have a variety of friends which is nice cause they are all special in different ways.

"Bettie_x – wants to be seen as hard, mean and wicked while living the most normal and socially acceptable lifestyle possible"
Bettie's only real flaw was falling in with Mr. X. Who's says the old lost puppy trick doesn't work anymore? Some may call it the Stockholm Syndrone, but I call it true love.
You try to make it sound like trying to lead a normal life is some kind of cursed cancer. It's not as if we are driving around in SUV's and picking up our twins Brandy and Mandy from soccer pratice. Is that what you mean by normal? If my frau seems like she is hard, wicked, or mean it is only a reaction to this world that is all of things and more.
If you think that calling my wife normal was some kind of dig on her then you couldn't be more wrong.
We had a very normal meeting, a very normal courtship, and a very normal wedding. I would bet someday we will have very normal kids. Very cute little toe heads kids, but normal none the less.
We are very normal people with very normal needs. That doesn't mean she doesn't like to dress up and beat me with a stick, but then again is that really abnormal?
Don't fall into the trap that just because you own every Skinny Puppy album that you owe it to yourself to live a life of wreckless abandon. I find great comfort in knowing each day I will kiss her very normal lips, eat my normal dinner made in our very normal kitchen, and fall asleep each night in her very normal arms.
To me being in love and being loved is the greatest offer life has for us. I'll take normal everyday.

There couldn't have been a stupider thing to say about Kat, yoo asshole. When Kat talks about the scene, she isn't some kid who's out to piss-off her parents! Kat is very passionate about what she does, so much so that every aspect of her life is centered around it, music!
She works at a record company, has a very impressive collection of friends in the music biz, is one of the top DJs in Norway, and most importantly is an impressive musician! What the fuck do yoo mean there's more to life than the scene? Her life is music, yoo imbicile! She's doing what she loves, yoo've got nothing better to do than fling poo in a crowded room and run! |

Re: Multiple Kats? by KatB on Dec 11, 2002 - 05:33 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://www.magicka.net | Merci boucoup, my friend, couldn't have put it better myself ;-P
Actually, without knowing Kat_Vamp I expect s/he ment me, since I DO post most stuff about "the scene", but that is a topic that is fairly dominant here, so I do not feel terribly guilty for that.
_However_, I have actually spent a larger part of my life being very active in the Norwegian political "scene", more specifically in student policics AND the local governent of a small rural shire call Fet.
So, if anyone cares to discuss
* Norwegian School Politics
* Agricultural Politics
* How the democratic system works in Norway
* Apartheid in South Africa (I hope that is an out-dated topic!!)
- I am more than open for a conversation.
Now I await eagerly the first customer to discuss prices on Norwegian grain production, or pine forestry! |

Like Shade, I found this quite interesting, though it would be nice to know who posted it. *Grinz hopefully* It's great to read, and quite interesting to see your analysis of everyone (whether it's correct or not is another matter) but c'mon, sign up!!!
I'm actually quite surprised I got mentioned, am I really that perky?

If I'm online and writing I seem to come across as a lot more perky and confidant than I am in real life. Praise be to the anonymity of a screen in front of you and not a real person. *Pets computer* ::Good girl:: |

Honestly, it's your pictures. You have the CUTEST face and happiest smiles I've ever seen, and the one with the buns and the hot pink just did you in for good, I'm afraid *wink* |

Re: Tragic fatal flaws by Psychopixi on Dec 01, 2002 - 01:58 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://psychopixi.com | *Grinz* lol. I think I prefer my "online personality" even if it is sickly perky. When I'm typing I can think more about what I'm saying and don't end up with my foot in my mouth *quite* as often!! Always a good thing, believe you me.
I'm never going to escape the whole 'cute cheek-pinching perky' thing am I? Even my sodding boyfriend has taken to calling me 'mouse-ie'. I am not cute. Really! I'm not!! *Attempts a serious frown*

Re: Tragic fatal flaws by bettie_x (strangersangel@hotmail.com) on Dec 02, 2002 - 01:00 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://bettie_x.tripod.com/ | Same here, sister. It's easier to think and speak when you have a backspace button.
I struggle with a slight speaking disability, and I trip on my words often...usually I'm okay, but sometimes it's as bad as a stutter. But I do have to say that I am an olympic caliber foot sucker...I should have a shelf full of trophies by now. So usually I just keep my friggin mouth shut unless I have a reason to open it.
As for the whole "perky" issue, I dont' think you're so much perky...more just darling. I honestly think it's your face and your smile that leads people to think you're "perky". A smile just sort of BELONGS on your face, and there aren't a lot of people that smile anymore.
Be glad you can :) |

Checking the latest Darwin Awards. by Monolycus on Nov 28, 2002 - 04:06 PM (User info | Send a Message) | Unless you subscribe to the Freudian unconscious death wish (no relation to Charles Bronson), there are plenty of flaws that are fatal without being explicitly suicidal in nature. Poor judgement is probably a much more fatal flaw to have than a predisposition towards self-destruction. Talking on cell phones while driving, speaking out against corruption in many places, having a short attention span while working a construction job... all these flaws are potentially fatal without being "suicidal tendencies" per se. I, myself, have the unfortunate tendency to want to use phrases like "dumb country fuck" when visiting redneck bars. |

Well, I’ll just keep this short and simple.
1) Are you willing to see your own flaws? I am. I’m arrogant, stubborn as hell and sometimes drunk off my own bi-polar depression (to name a few) but I always remember this. “I’ll make weapons out of my imperfections.” (Tool) Can you say the same?
2) Zodiac busts? This is where you find the flaws of others? Give me a break.
3) All these “flawed” people you have so bravely pointed out Bettie_x, Alugarde, Cashmere, Closetgothbabe, Callei, Comedian, Rae, Poison, Sindel, Rogue, Meranda_Jade, Litho, Ickgirl, Dolorosa, Morte_ascendo, Vampcourt, Devin, Shade, Mara, Necromancer, Arthegarn, Schizo, Sticcipus, MistressRavenDarque04, Ianthe99, Feralucce, Monolycus, Gothvail, Kat_vamp, IamSquid, ThatOneWastedChick, BlueLinn, Psychopixi, Kira, Mutant_Duckie and Biko; I call them all my friends and WOULD NOT have them any other way than the way they are.

Re: Tragic fatal flaws by DarkMistress (shad0wdweller@yahoo.com) on Dec 01, 2002 - 12:38 PM (User info | Send a Message) | Shade is a different story...I was directing that more at the ones who were attacked (meanly). And besides that, the fact that the guy attacked their sun signs is pathetic. If you know anything about astrology then you know that there are other signs affecting the personality when the person is born. Like you could be a pisces by month but born under libra, so you would have traces of libra. |

Sticcipus – sex isn’t everything kiddo.
Ooooo, I like my flaw, it is sexy. Ok lets dissect- My name Sticupus!! (you fuckers) Now lets say it slowly, STICK U PUSS. Ahhhh that's what it is! Duhhhh (it originally started as a combination of the terms Succubus and Incubus, and Sticupus stuck; besides it sounds dirty when you say it ;D)
Of course sex isn't everything, that is why I am a existentialist into Art, Art history, Quantum physics, and Issac Asimov. I try to grasp existence and myself at the same time. SO WHAT?!
And for your information I am a virgin flower, I'm 18, full of hormones, and pretty; So who cares if I am a little preoccupied with sex? I think that's a byproduct of my existence right now, not a flaw.(Though I love it, if that is a flaw)..
Also, I blame my libido on my very much above average sized cock anyway- I mean if you have to have one to know....
Oh and good job isolating yourself, now we all hate you: you creepy fuck. STOP STOCKING US!

Mmmmm... I thought that Quixotic vein in me is what made me "larger than life"... Doing things as they are supposed to be instead as how they are, you know... My tragic fatal flaw would be that when one charges against windmills, one gets hurt no matter how much faith you have in that they are giants because they shoud be giants and are supposed to be giants...
Actually RG is quite a good alter ego... Spending the whole night in a willing and able girl's flat having a fascinating conversation about Unamuno while sacrifying my urges in favor of correction. It really has happened to me. Several times... Now, THAT is tragic

Oh come on, is that really the best yoo could do? I have many personality flaws but the ones that appear online are pretty obvious, I'm suprised yoo didn't bother to mention even one of them.
I am:
egotistical
narcisistic
pretentious
elitist
pompous
a drama-queen
starving for attention
and piss-poor at spelling
Yoo didn't even get the last on the list which is probably the most obvious of any tragic fatal flaw on Shmeng. I would say that alone is sufficent evidence that yoo are projecting rather than doing yor homework and thus discredits everything else yoo've said in this article.
