I think the reason that this jumped on so many peoples proverbial nerves is that because we have no background of the author to bounce it off of. There are many, many things floating around on this site that contain much more offensive material. But, because the author has taken the time and effort to establish themselves in the community, there is a context in which the work can be taken, be it humor, sarcasm, cynism, or, all three and more.
In response to your challenge, there are several more well thought out, well produced pieces up on this site, in which meaning can be found without pissing everybody off, or insulting intelligence.

The lack of eloquence to the peice is also a barrier. I have read many, many short stories in my time that say quite a bit in few words. I would direct you to read a short story entitled "Mockingbird." Unfortunatley, the authors name escapes me right now, but in it, social class differences, life choices, and ideas of love are all expressed in a few very short paragraphs.
I find it hard to belive that if "s8er" was meaning to bring up such issues in his submission, that it would have been missed by everybody but yourself.
As to the lower case "i" it could be a typo, or as many people are bringing up across the country, an affectation in grammar that has been adopted by the so called "internet generation/youth.".
Lastly, the idea of the amount of comments on negative articles has already been addressed several times, if you had taken the time to explore the site.

I think it's nice to see someone willing to take the time to develop the sarcasm and flame into a graphic and literate entry. Although it may not totally justify sk8er's post, it shows that we can still have a sense of humor about the "hidden depths" of the depthless mind.
