Now Where Did I Put That Thing?

There are so many paths in each of our own lives, how do we know where to go? What if we get lost? Who do we go to and ask for help? What if we're too tired of all the confusion to even look?

I think at birth (in each world) each of us is given a map. Some people lose theirs, some throw theirs away, and some even sell their copy. Everything we've learned, all the hard times we've lived through, all those hard lessons - we come to understand their purpose and meaning. It eventually leads us all to the sea where we are reborn again for another life in another world complete with a new map.

The map is just that, a picture of key "places" each of us needs to visit in this life. Some of us take longer to realize this, but that's the best thing about the map, it is not an appointment book. The only goal is to pay attention and learn as you visit these locations before you die.

As each of us makes our way, we can take the high road, we can take the low road, or even travel off-road if we choose.

I believe that I've been on a mule too long, traveling too many paths along the cliffs, and frankly, my ass hurts.

Some days I can't read my map and crumple it up in frustration, other days it is full of pretty pictures but doesn't list the location, and even other days I wonder if it was all a figment of my imagination.

Anyway, I recently found a piece of my map in a dream and realized that I had missed a key place... My map comes in the form of dreams, numbers, deja vu, and sometimes spirits (and not always happy ones). Pay attention, I'm sure you all have experienced this too.

I performed a little winter cleaning, scrapped all my junk and trash and in the process found the rest of my map. It is easy to simplify your life. I am sending my mule on his way, he is no longer useful for the next trail. Instead I have a new pair of "boots". I have everything I need on my back and a whistle on my lips.

I can't read my map today, but at least I know where it is. I don't know what my destination is at this exact moment, but I have an idea. That idea is much better than having nothing at all.

The sun is rising and my path is laid before me. Peace out.

I deeply regret missing Shmengfest over the summer. I have missed you all and can only wish you the very best as we go into the New Year. "Places" was not meant to be taken literally - it is meant to include many things such as friends, work, relationships, and situations, as well as physical locations...
