Brand Disloyalty

I came here on a mission. This morning I put on my Lip service jacket and had a great realization. or at least it was for me. I decided it would probably be worthy of posting on shmeng. Only moments ago I was hit by a wave of inferiority, and almost turned away from that ominous post button, images flashing through my mind from "from the eyes of a newbie" (whatever it's called). I've faced my fears. This is what I have to say...
This morning, like I said, I put on my Lip Service™ jacket. Yes, I have read the goth commandments, and I know that many would be disgusted with me right now. but you know? I just don't care. I realized that rather than buy certain brands because they are cool; it's become trendy to not buy certain brands because they are supposedly uncool. Goths have found it all uber cool to have brand un-loyalty. This is really stupid if you ask me.

I love my Lip Service™ jacket, in fact I'm wearing it right now, and frankly I don't care what lip service started out as or who their customer base primarily is. I also buy Hot Topic ™, if a certain shirt or skirt suits me. Oh my god, that's soooo not goth! Whatever. I go to malls, I go to thrift stores, I buy what I like where i see it, and I don't have brand loyalty or disloyalty.

Editors note: I am posting this because I just couldn’t let the opportunity pass to say "Boycott and Denial are different than hating it because it is cool".

It is not that one brand is cool and one is not with the so-called Uber crowd. It's that some people choose to Boycott the mainstreaming of a counterculture. Or its sour grapes because the mainstream stores don’t carry their size, tastes, or fit their budget. For some, it’s the fact that people that used to work for Gap now work for Hot Topic and there is a certain feel to the clothes that they put out that makes much of them seem like Gap clothes (btw Gap is denigrated because it has convinced people that wearing a Para-military uniform is somehow "cool").
