I've been asked on the forums a few times if I wrote the Goth Test that way on purpose. Here's a little history on how it came about for anyone who cares (read more)...
Actually the test was originally like 5 questions that I posted on my site. It didn't even keep track if you got stuff right or wrong. I'd pretty much forgotten about it. Then I started getting email about it, and went and looked at my server logs. I noticed that the goth test accounted for about 3/4 of the traffic on my site.
At this point I wrote a script that would fling you to disneyland as soon as you clicked on a wrong answer. That was amusing I guess, but then I forgot about it again. After a while I started getting email again - this time telling me my test was broken cuz it had links to Disneyland. I guess they didn't get it. So finally I was between jobs and bored to death, so I made up a few more questions (mostly based on stupid stuff I'd heard people say) and decided to write a script that would keep score and see how many people passed it.
This turned out to be a bad idea. When people failed the test they would get all pissed and try to hack my server (with varying degrees of success) - or try to cheat and get their name on the page you sign if you pass it. My first thought was that I should take it down cause I didn't want to deal with the lame hack attempts. But after reading a little of what people wrote when they thought they successfully cheated, I figured I should just tighten up the security on my server and fix it so you couldn't cheat - then hook the end of the test up with a forum and see what people say. It's worked pretty well this way so far. Hope it's as amusing for everyone else as it is for me.
