the things we do for pets

This was occurring to me today as I was giving my fiance's cat razzle her twice daily I.V.
The poor kitty has been puking her ancient guts out allll weeeek and finally three days ago quit trying to eat or drink because even a taste of water would come right back up.
I took her to the vet, and $125 later, I was at home with a bag of fluid and needles trying to rehydrate her poor little body, along with a worming pill, hairball treatment, and an anti-nausea shot. I wanted to take care of her myself, not leave her alone in a hospital to feel abandoned. She's 18 yrs old and I was going to be damned if a stomach ache was goinng to do her in.
How many people would do this for a pet?
I get up about 15 min early in the morning so she can sit on my lap and let me poke a needle into her so she doesn't dry up and die.
I would do it in a heartbeat for any of my pets, my dog, my rats...
But the feeling when I saw her slap my dog away from her food dish so she could actually EAT for the first time in four days was a proud moment. She had a nibble of dry cat food, and she drank a little water.
I've bottle fed a rat antibiotics for two weeks for a tooth infection and $50 for a vet visit.
My dog is relatively healthy, so no horror stories for her thank goodness...
What have you done for a pet that makes people think you're a headcase? My mother couldn't believe that she saw my rat wrapping his little paws around the eye dropper to dring the pink bubble gum flavored medicine. "I would have just let the damned thing die"
"That's why I didn't ask YOU to take him to the vet"
Have you ever had to bully your way past a stupid receptionist just to get a little help for your best friend in the world?
I've done it lots of times just to get a sick rat in to the doctor, who is a kind and wonderful man.
Have you ever sat up all night with a pet in a coma so they wouldn't die alone?
With an aging pet that is doomed of old age so you'll be the last thing they'll see?
With a dying pet at the vet's that has to be put down, and you don't want them to be afraid?
What have you done for a pet that goes above and beyond what most people would...
