Topic Whining

Ok here's a question that bothers me from time to time. Why are there so many whiny goths? To quote a friend "goths kickass - they're literate, educated, artistic thinkers". So why can you hear the whine when you walk by a group of goths hanging out at that cool coffeshop? I admit that they whine in a literate, educated, artisitc way, but why do it in the first place?
We are the freethinkers. We are the omni-franchised. So why do we whine about being oppressed?

Lets look at some real oppressed people and see what we have in common shall we? Lets compare the Catholics in China with goths. In China as a Catholic you can't gather in large groups where you might be seen. You can't wear anything that is indicative of your beliefs. You must hide. The penalty is still often death if you are caught.

Now lets look at goths. We can congregate in large groups and we often do at dance clubs, coffee shops, malls, anywhere. We can wear things that indicate our beliefs, be it all black and PVC or rude T-shirts. And what is the penalty for being goth? We get funny things yelled at us, but very rarely are we killed for just being goth.

We may not be the first to get hired for every job to which we apply, but we aren't the last either. We get stuff yelled at us from fast moving vehicles, but we aren't being shot at. We occationally have chest-beating competitions with others. This happens to everyone. We whine that HOT TOPIC doesn't carry the hair color that we want. We whine that its hard to find the kind of house furnishings that we want in TARGET. We whine that our teachers treat us like leapers. They treat all kids like leapers. They HATE kids, and you would too if you had to deal with 30 of the screaming monkeys everyday for minimum wage.

Nightside owns his own bisiness. So do I. Noone would call Bettie_X oppressed, especially not to her face. I'd love to see someone explain to Devin that he is oppressed. Rogue is certainly not my idea of a poster child for the oppressed. (this is my idea of a good joke by the way. Just try to picture someone telling a room full of us that we are oppressed. I laughed out loud at the image, really)

Any town, any city, any country to which we might venture has goths waiting with open arms and fashion advice. We are free to travel the world, free to think what we want, free to express those thoughts in almost any way we see fit. Liberated doesn't seem a strong enough word for what we are. Blessed also doesnt cover it. Preeminent? August? I know! We are goth!

Long enough for ya' Devin? wink.
