Red Dragon
Category : Typical Goth
Author : Thomas Harris
ISBN (No Dashes) : 0385319673
|
|
Description : The first in a great trilogy of novels by Thomas Harris. Harris has the most exquisite character development I have ever come across. His writing is tasteful, yet all the same shameless; nothing is hidden from the reader. The vast knowledge of sociology and psychology is presented in a fashion that does not insult the reader's obviously lesser knowledge, and invites them to play in this strange intellectual realm. The content is flawless and will continue to both disturb you and make you giggle throughout the novel. The use of symbology, in conjunction with William Blake, is beautiful. Overall he truly exposes the whole spectrum of human cruelty and kindness in a way it’s hard to believe one man, without multiple personalities, wrote this.
-Oh, and it’s about serial killers.
“Francis Dolarhyde is my favorite villain. He has a reason for everything.” -Cashmere

The Blood Countess: A Novel
Category : Typical Goth
Author : Andrei Codrescu
ISBN (No Dashes) : 0440221919
|
|
Description : From Amazon:
"A folk belief that on bitter cold nights the stars come down to mate with wolves. An adolescent boy, sexually aroused by an "iron maiden" torture device. The smell of paprika and boiled chicken served with Tokay wine. These and other vivid images of Hungary in the 16th century, and Hungary today, swirl together amid scenes of luxury and barbarity and talk of Martin Luther's Christianity and post-Communist ideals in this gloriously gruesome novel inspired by the life of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. They say she killed 650 virgin girls in order to rejuvenate herself with their blood."
This is a fascinatingly well-written historical novel. A must read for anyone interested in historical instances of blood drinking.
