Bettie, no worries, I understand where you are coming from. My very last
post was not targeting you it was meant for gothicmorman.
I think I have ranted enough. After reading Callei and Shade's articles I
softened up a bit towards everyone. I just haven't been around much lately
and I forgot that Callei lived in New Orleans. I am just really glad that
they made it out ok. I only wish the best for them right now. ____________________

Ariadne - I am very sorry for all your losses, and the losses of those you
represent. You've been through a lot on many counts, and I can see how you
could be sick of everyone's indifference.
You know, if you had posted a topic on your own about your personal
experiences of the storm, I'm sure we would have all participated
whole-heartedly. We're not heartless, you know. It's just that we all
have to speak from our own experiences - and most of us have only
experienced the massive gas price hike, which is actually pretty
devastating in its own right to a lot of us. We need people like you to
TELL us, first hand, about what it was really like down there, because
otherwise all we hear is what the media feeds us, and we all know what kind
of bull that can be.
I think maybe you ticked us off because you entered a forum where we were
all talking about our personal difficulties and fears, and belittled them,
just because they were not the biggest difficulties or fears on the earth
right now. In a way, I'm sorry we reacted so angrily, but in another way,
I'm not. Because we were talking about how the hurricane hurt US, without
even touching us physically. Our pain is real - those of us who were
already living by a financial thread, and now are wondering how we're going
to be able to afford to drive to our own jobs. Honestly, we would like to
be able to look at the bigger picture, and throw ourselves headlong into
the relief effort of this disaster, and others like it worldwide. But how
can we, when we are so barely making it here in our own little corners?
Our personal disasters aren't headline-worthy, but they are very real and
vital to us. We're all in this shit together, no matter what role we play
in it. We need to stand back to back, not jump at each others throats for
not focusing on the problems we think need the most attention. We're all
doing the best we know.

Schizo, you are right. I did jump in here and I was a bit angry. I
apologize for that. Here, we were fortunate not to have as much damage but
we have had is direct contact with evacuees and I am meeting and seeing
them in person and that is ripping my heart out of my chest. It has been in
my face so to speak. I have seen the little kids involved and that really
puts a lump in my throat. Most of my anger comes from the government's
response. I will admit my anger was misdirected at you guys and I am truly
sorry about that. ____________________

try to insult my intelligence this way but you are speaking to someone with
a husband who is currently doing his third tour in the middle east. So
don't even go there with me because I will virtually kick your teeth in if
you want to discuss this stupid war and tragedy and what not. I am in a
place where I know all about this first hand. So just stop where you are,
thank you.
first off i was not actually trying to insult your intelligence. and second
off where did the middle east come into this? when i say small wars i mean
the ones than happen out in the streets of america at night and people that
mean nothing to anybody (especially not to the government) get killed and
nothing is done about it.
quote: As far as this making
good TV. hmmmm That is funny that you would say this because I am not
watching this shit on tv I am meeting evacuees. As a matter of fact, I
don't even watch tv if you must know. I read the news.
i didnt really say that, i quoted it because it is true, the major
tradgeties are on tv because they make better tv for those who do watch it
than what happens every night when nobody is looking. it makes good news in
the papers too.
quote: I'd LOVE to send money,
send aid, but well all my finances are tied up in my goddamned gas tank!
And tied up in my rising cost of living over the last five years, faild by
the same administration that failed the thousands and thousands of people
on the coast.
one thing that gets me is that Red Cross will accept everyone's money but
they are not accepting practical things people can give like tents or
blankets or non-perishable food items, clothes, pillows, stuff people
caught in the middle of new orleans might actually need. at least they are
not up here, they actually said to send money instead of stuff.

our gas prices are not going down at all. if anything the are looking to go
up, my town is still at 3.55$ per gallon and a town close by had 4.03$ per
gallon so we are most likley going to see prices go up before they come
down. |

Ooooohhhhhh, I wasn't here all summer! ... Not.. that... anyone noticed...
*trails off*
I was in Alberta -- the gas was about 1.10 - 1.14 there on a day to day
basis.
How gross.
I think public transit is going to be my way of life for quite some time.
Or I should just buy a really fancy donkey to ride around.

2.97 the other day. I put 20.00 in the tank, and then got raised eyebrows
and looks when I sat there shaking the gas hose/nozzle thing after it ate
my money and clicked off, trying to get the last few drops. I think the
little song and dance I was doing to go along with it was what attracted
the most attention. ____________________ Okay, dazzle me. |

Down to 2.94! It's gas tank filling day! When I first bought this car a
year ago, I couldn't even fit 20.00 worth in the tank. Now it fills it a
little over half way. Depressing. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and

Prices are still on the rise here. On Lanai gas has been over 4 dollars for
a while now, but here on Maui it is about 3.99 though I did see a 3.89 at
one station. ____________________ "People always say what we are looking for is a meaning for life…I don't

was 3.41$ a gallon! yay! (104.9 /L canadian)
scissors 1.10 - 1.14 /L CAD is 3.57 - 3.69 / gallon USD ...
i like bettie's 2.75 ... 84.7 cents/L sounds very nice right now! i have a
video tape from back in the early 90's and there is some news on it and
there are people complaining about gas going up and it is so expensive and
whatnot at 36 cents/L... o.o |

Yeah, but they say they're going up again with this new hurricane (named
after my mother-in-law!) Prices went up from 2.89 to 2.95 last night.
Good thing I filled the tank yesterday afternoon! I'm getting to be pretty
good at gas price surfing. I should take it up as a sport. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and

ours just dropped to 2.67 the other day, before rita hit, and tho I heeded
my husband's warning to fill up on the way home before the other hurricane
hit, it's still sitting at the same price. It makes me nervous tho,
nervous person that I am, because LAST time prices dipped (from the
outrageous 2.39 to 2.05) they skyrocketed higher than before. (ie:
2.79).
I've been pricing hybrids to trade my husband's already fuel efficient
honda in on. My oldsmobile gets pretty good mileage, but I figure if I
only have to fill up one car twice a month, and the other once a week,
instead of TWO cars once a week, it'll be worth it.
My dad did just acquire a deisel new model VW bug (only cuz it's "rare"
says he, I think he likes the bubble shape, personally) that gets about 45
miles to the gallon (almost as good as a hybrid!). My sister also just
traded her jeep cherokee in for a VW Jetta. I am about ready to ditch my
regular 9 to never-home-at-all job and take up my other one full time so
our asses can CARPOOL.
Oh, and go to your local spencer gifts and pick up the new T's. First one
is a stick figure next to a gas pump with the nozzle in his butt and it
says "bush's america: taking it in the gas" and the other has bush and
cheney looking like douchebags in front of an old timey gas station and it
says "Two Dipsticks! We'll run you dry!". Retail $12.99 plus tax.

ZARG! Impending doom has struck, maybe. Gas was slowly inching down from
the spike of hurricane katrina but rita has spiked it back up higher than
before. Two days ago gas was down to 104.9 cents per litre / 3.42 per
gallon, yesterday it went up to 111.9 cents per litre / 3.64 per gallon
though today it has gone now to 109.9 cents per litre / 3.59 per gallon.
Ironically enough my mom just accepted a job where she has to drive a half
hour or so to every day... >.< and what is with so many people suddenly
buying huge suv's and hummers? is this just in my town? we have lots of
vipers, and hummers, and really big trucks and suv's kicking around
recently. |

They're saying (good ol' They!) that prices on trucks and SUVs have gone
down an average of about $5,000, and smaller cars have gone up about
$2,000. They say that at this point it's actually cheaper to keep your gas
guzzler rather than trade it in for a smaller car, because of this. The
money you would save in gas would be more than off-set by the price changes
for the vehicle.
My husband has been scoping the car auctions for a while now. He's trying
to pick up gas-efficient cars as cheaply as possible, and sell them off to
people who want to replace their less efficient vehicles. Might be able to
pick up a tidy bit of cash - although I never thought I'd be married to a
used car salesman! As long as he doesn't end up wearing a polyester plaid
suit, I guess I'm ok! ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and
