Apologies then about that, but that was annoying.
I suppose that the amount of grief that I have given you and other flamers
could lead to the automatic assumption that I am being totally serious
every time I say 'give the guy a break.'

It DID tend to be your mantra, back in the day, Wormie. I can see how the
first line of your post could give a bit of a wrong impression, based on
that history, and the entire post was written so perfectly mock-seriously
that, if one started with the wrong frame of mind, one might assume that
there was no "mock" involved. That's what probably produced Feral's
knee-jerk anger.
And Feral, you know I love you to death, but I think you need to step back
and take a deep breath. You've been trying so hard to teach the masses,
and they wouldn't learn, and you are angry and impatient. I've come to the
conclusion that there are noisy idiots, and there will always be noisy
idiots. You can clear them out for a bit, but new ones always come to take
their places. It's frustrating, but inevitable. What seems to be
happening is that so many of the people I would love to hear from have
retreated from these waves upon waves of twits and trolls, and have
silenced themselves. You have been fighting the battle, but in the words
of the Sound of Music nuns, "how do you pin a wave upon the sand?" In your
never-ending and futile battle to clear away the ocean, you end up
repeating yourself as truly as every noisy idiot is a repetition of the one
before. It's all we see of you anymore - that, and an occasional
photograph. And because most of us have become silent, it's all anyone
sees of the established Shmenglings, too.
Perhaps it's time to let it go. The forums will always be inundated with
riffraff, no matter how hard we try to push it back. But that's no reason
to be silent. There hasn't been an article posted since January 14. Why
have we deserted the high ground of the homepage when the waves came in? I
would much rather hear a good Lemmings on Parade article from you then yet
another rebuke to a hapless mindless ape who will be replaced in a week
with a dozen of them, anyway! Let the little ones play on the shores and
boundaries, while we inhabit the holy mountain, while karma does the work
that you have struggled at so long down here. We've been giving the idiots
far too much attention, and neglecting the people we actually enjoy in this
place.
So what say you?

Actually, I got quite a kick out of reading Wormwood's analysis of the
poem. He managed to put together a pretty good smorgasboard of sarcatic
remarks, and I think I snort-laughed about a third of the way through.
Maybe I'm an ass, but I would have found it just as funny as a serious
analysis (because it would have just been so sad) as I did a sarcastic one.
