I am currently considering relocation (if everything works out). I am
looking for land, near a city. Out in the county is the best, as long as it
has water and electricity... I'm building a prefab home, so all I need is
an acre or more that can support a concrete slab. I also prefer to be
within 30-60 miles of the coast.
The states under consideration are:
washington
oregon
Northern California
Texas
Louisianna
virginia
Florida
Mexico (not a state, but you catch my drift)
Some of the considerations that are being factored in are:
Available dance clubs (roomie loves to dance)
High speed internet (DUH)
Cost of staples and comodities(eggs, meat, milk, gasoline, etc)
Gaming stores in the area (another DUH)
Arts ( this should be self explanatory, but the community needs to have a
thriving artistic center)
Tourism trade (I intend to start a tour company)
If anyone can supply information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't come to Texas. For one it is Texas and I am almost ready to abandon
it. Second if you are looking for land near the coast; then I should warn
you about the Gulf coast. Besides threats of hurricanes, there is the
humidity sticky, salty, sweaty humidity, polluted foamy green waves, black
mold, cockroach invasion, bad city planning, moronic flood control
planning, and the biggest city near the coast is Houston. Oh and eroding
beaches.
Given things are alot cheaper down here, but not much of a seen... it’s
just not worth it.

I'd like to warn you against Virginia... it's not a state, but a
commonwealth, and as such, it has some pretty fucked up rules.
More seriously, though--the coastal region of Virginia is largely
militarized. There are way too many people here for the roads to support.
Traffic is hell and half of it is because the road system here is
inadequate for the population. The housing market is in a terrible state;
people are paying triple what homes here would be worth in a normal market
(the new surge-ready crap the Navy is doing has affected this
tremendously). I don't know for sure, but if it's that way with the houses,
I'm sure it's nearly the same with just land.
With this area being mostly military, there are concerts that come through
from time to time (many of them free thanks to MWR), but there is not much
else in the way of the Arts to speak of. Let's face it; most military
people aren't exactly signing petitions to the mayor to get an Arts Center
of any kind built. There are some small art galleries in downtown Norfolk,
and a theatre or two. The most you'll get in the way of the Arts is through
whatever the local colleges are putting on, so if you're into that, you
might very well be satisfied with the Fine Arts scene here. I am into it,
but I still loved the fact that the last real city I lived in had its own
Opera Company as well as Discovery Place right downtown.
I'm not huge into clubbing, but I think Virginia Beach has its fair share
of clubs and bars, but you'll probably tire of the game, "Find the
Civilians."
Neutral info: This area, refered to as the Hampton Roads Community is
actually made of about seven towns/cities; Norfolk, Virginia Beach,
Suffolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Williamsburg, and some other one I can't
think of right now.
There is a minor league baseball team here, but there are some guys
lobbying to get a major league team, which would suck big time because a:
if you like baseball, it's nice to get good seats for for less than $12 and
b: this place can't handle the traffic it would generate! There is also
hockey team here.
It will probably snow at least once a year, but not enough to amount to
anything except to freak out the people who don't know how to drive in it,
and it will only stay on the ground for a day or two.
Lemme know if there's anything else you want to know about Virginia in the
vicinity of ocean.
Oops, I forgot--there is an amphitheater here, but I haven't gone to
anything it's had come through. Not because everything they have tour
through here sucks, but because of my underway schedule. So if you're
luckier than me, you'll get a see a broadway show or two. ____________________ "I've told you before, I don't comprehend religion, although

Sorry can't help you there, but if you are thinking of moving to England
then I can give you some suggestions on getting around land law and
positioning.
