My fiance is trying to start his own website selling auto parts. Neither
of us know diddly-squat about coding. We have become lost in the piles of
website-building sites, and website-hosting sites. (Are they different?
If so, how?) We need to find a good place to build our website, where we
can create a professional looking site, it needs to have a shopping-cart
option, it should ideally be not-too-expensive (although we are willing to
shell out a little cash to get a decent website), and it needs to be
ignoramus-friendly!
Anyone with any tips, hints, or suggestions please post! We're completely
lost! ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the

Dear Schizo:
I feel your pain...so here are a few hints.
Web Hosts
Your budget will dictate this choice but if you can afford to put out about
$9 - $20 bucks a month you can get a fairly dependable host that will also
include an easy to use prepackaged store application. The important thing
here is to try to find an ISP that can keep your down time to a minimum.
Merchant Account
You'll need to be able to accept credit cards over the net. There are
firms like Paypal, iBill, etc that will handle all of this for you. There
are service charges and possible deposits required with some of these.
They will also provide the HTML you will need to put in your pages.
Programmers
DONT pay someone to build you a custom storefront!
There are plenty of guys and gals out there that do great page work and do
it cheap. If your budget is tight and you want to do it yourself then you
can use a program like Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver to put
your pages together. If you can use a program like Word then you can use
Frontpage. Dreamweaver has a free 30 day download.
I hope this helps.
Respectfully,
Mark-O |

my housemate pretty much lives off websites and he agrees in principal with
mark-o. also dont rest on your laurels, once you have your page up and
running continue to do research into better ways, better places to host etc
and try to learn html for yourself, it isnt that difficult and a google
search and a bit of patience will probably find you a site which teaches it
at no cost. this way you can continually improve.
im not trying to insult your intelligence; you probably already have this
information or have thought of it yourself, but its what has kept my mates
sites going and earning still. ____________________ Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

I first learned how to code in HTML when I was in fifth grade. I was just
so desperate to have my own website... and since there I've been making my
own websites, although I do host them for free on either http://www.geocities.com
or
http://freespaces.com
My latest piece of work is this, although it's not done yet.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is a program that can help you, since generally you
can use the drag-and-drop technique on it. But if you want to learn how to
code, here are a few websites that can help:
