Former President Ronald Reagan Reagan died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 1 p.m.
PDT of pneumonia combined with Alzheimer's disease in his California home.
The 40th former President/Actor lived to his 93rd year.
I know a lot of people disprove of Ronald Reagan, but eh...for all parties
involved, amazes me how long he lived before he died, considering the
complications he suffered. Then again, high-class citizens usually get
easier access to medicare, despite political parties.
Anyway, long story cut short, feel free to leave your comments concerning
ol' Ronnie in this thread.

(CARE OF- THE 80'S)
Awww, Reagan, dude this is bogus! How can you die, man! Aww, we had such
great times. I think it would be, you know, radical, if we look back at
what you meant to us.
Remember the whole economic system you made! Tubular! Like, without you, I
would never been able to offer those gnarly italian loafers, and that great
deconstructed linen jacket, or my awsome BMW! Man I remember the first time
your tax system alowed people in me to buy all those, like, awsome Bonnie
Tyler LP's, but then like, later, they ended just buying a Compact Disk
Deck, and hooking it up to their Home Entertainment system. Anyway,
remember how you set up the media, so we no longer got ACTUAL information,
but rather a politically altered version, in order to propgate whatever
atitude or situation you saw fit. NARLY! I mean I was busy trying to get
MTV, and of course Knight Rider was on, but I knew.
Very bitchin' of you to do that contra thing. "Mistakes were made",
hahahahaha, rock on! But then that Bush guy came. Bleh, gag me with a
spoon! And he totally barfed on this chinese guy. You should have like,
fired him! But again, MTV and the whole Doogie Howser thing was on. I
didn't really catch it all. The bottom line is this Reagan, of the
presidents that could of come out of me, as an 80's president, you were
awsome. I mean, what sums ME up better than actors as presidents! I mean
the look was a little tired, the whole navy blue and power tie bit worked
for the yuppies, but, eh, you could have went with a turned up collar,
rolled up sleeves, and at least one pastel colored shirt. OR,or,or,or,
maybe a flight suit, like Ice Man! The 90's and that punk assed "new
millenium" keep sayign that the whole 90's recession was your fault, but
what do they know; Kurt Cobain, NIN, Britney spears! Hell these N'Sync guys
wish they were Menudo! And Britney, dude, she is sooooo over! Madonna will
never die!
Anyway, like, I have to go. Miami Vice is on! Haha, man, I soooo, love it
when Tubbs shows Crocket who's boss. Some people say otherwise, but they're
BOGUS! Listen Reagan I just wanna say this. I know you had hard times, and
that diesease and all, but you were cool. To the MAX. Good look up in
heaven, or wherever you go when you, you know, like, tottaly die. Long live
the brat pack, and gleam the cube up there for all of us, Ronnie!!
I wanted it to be nice, but I failed....In case anyone was wondering, I
have questionable views of Reaganomics, and all that jazz.

I loved the Ron. Plain and simple. I don't even have a concrete reason for
it, I just did. I turned 18 in 1984, and it was the first year I was able
to vote. It was also the only year I actually really truly loved getting
into the whole political frenzy state of mind. I even went door to door
campaigning for him. Maybe it was the eighties, maybe it was being old
enough to vote, maybe it was the cute guys in the Republican group
meetings. Whatever the reason, I was on board the Ronnie train and lovin'
every minute of it.
He's always been my favorite president, and I enjoyed the whole ride. Hell,
I even enjoyed the Contra-Gate stuff. It made for interesting discussion at
the time.
Ronnie, wherever you are, you rock in my books.

I think I need to get into studying some more recent US history because I
was only born in 1985 and I don't know much about Reagen at all. People
don't talk about him much anymore, at least I don't hear it, and I've heard
some bad stuff though and I've heard good stuff. Damn, I thought I was out
of school, but you know what, I guess if you're not just a lazy bastard you
can teach yourself. Well, I'm off to study the "R" man.

Despite the Iran-Contra Scandal, from what I've read of the guy, I liked
how he acted as a "parent" figure, for lack of better words. He's
Republican to the core, yes, but one thing I respected was the fact that
when he warned people that he would do something, he would do it. "If you
do this, I'll do that" kind of thing. I think that a lot of parents in
today's society could learn from that example.
Starlight: Reagan was the type that despite political party, you either
loved the guy to death or made fun of him to all ends. Then again, I know
of one person who thinks his death is a "good thing" because that person
blames Reagan for the bankruptcy that went on. *shrugs* It's a big
argument that goes on and I been trying to cut down my obsession with
politics.
Maybe it is true that most hardcore Republicans bankrupt a nation through
little taxes and more military, but in any form of economic system, someone
suffers. High taxes mean less money in people's pockets, but on the other
hand, can add money to the pool for the government to spend (in the
Democrat's case, social programs).
To Hells with it, all politicans are crooks to an extent...
Ronald Reagan was not the brightest crayon in the box (even he admitted to
it), but what I also liked was his management. That's what usually sets
things straight in most cases. Jimmy Carter was a smart [and likely very
moral man, one of the few], but his management wasn't the greatest so it
weakened him. Maybe Reagan's Reaganomics could have been revised a bit,
maybe, but as I said before, I liked his "parent" approach.
[For the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, I always wondered about the high
tax bracket for the rich that the Democrats usually aim for. It sounds
virtuous, but in reality, do they really pay taxes? Even my Government
teacher pointed out the loopholes that the -already rich- use to avoid
paying taxes: the big tax bracket only screws over the people either about
to become rich (and therefore, prevent more rich people) or the rich that
do not know the loopholes. Seriously, why would a rich person set a high
tax bracket for their self? It would seem like they're playing heroic
Robin Hood, but it's just smoke and mirrors in my opinion. Sure
Republicans are greedy bastards (Hells, I'm a greedy bastard), but at least
it's a known fact...a lot of die-hard Democrats I've met are still
convinced their party is the selfless heroic one......for a long story cut
short. Eh, maybe we should just stick an outright flat tax, but eh...a
-slight- bit of progression isn't bad as long as justice is done to the
rich *muahaha, ducks!!!* ]

Born in 85, too, I have very little knowledge of what Reagan was really
like. But my whole family seems to hate him, so it rubbed off on me. I saw
the front page of the newspaper yesterday, saw Reagan on it and skipped
over it, thinking it was just another stupid tribute, like it was his
birthday or something.
I didn't know he died until late that day when my grandpa mentioned it. (I
think he was going to hold a party or something to celebrate)*
But yeah. My whole knowledge of Reagan is that he's just a hollywood bum
that got elected. He cut taxes for the rich and got involved in lots of
sneaky revolutions in South/Central America. Of course, this probably
describes a whole bunch of presidents, but I still don't see why he's so
popular.
*Update: My grandpa's not holding the party just yet. He's waiting 'till
Nancy kicks the bucket, too.

The average American likes Ronald Reagan because they don't know how to
read. People liked Mao. Now Reagan isn't a Mao, not in a long shot. He
didn't let 80 million people starve to death and die because he had to play
shuffle board. But Reagan is just as disgusting because of Iran-Contra.
Economics aside, because if you had a small business or had to feed your
family in the 80's I don't need to tell you.
I don't blame Reagan completely, I also blame his administration, who are
pretty much the same people recycled over into today's King George II's
administration (and they pretty much run things the same way, only more
violently and sloppier). Reagan was ill when he was president. He fell
asleep during important meetings. When most people were busy with cartoons,
apple sauce, and naps- he was running the fucking United States of America.
When one has Alzheimer's , one isn't suited to run a super power. So fuck
those assholes who supported and nominated an old, ever increasingly senile
retired ACTOR to become a president. They KNEW what they were doing. Very
much how we have a vacation/cocaine loving child in the white house
today.
Okay everyone lets try READING. Use this that I have provided for you and
try looking up other sources while you are at it. Keep in mind that sources
like "The Conservo-Christian-Rebupublican Society That Claims we can do no
Wrong" may be bias.
In the end people who can truly love Reagan are Rich White Republicans,
people on the business end of a huge useless "defense" contract to make
nuclear refrigerator magnets with goggly eyes, and Terrorists. They just
loooooove Reagan.
Fuck Reagan. And Fuck all of the rest of them.

Well, it's good to hear that the living corpse had finally accepted the
inevitable. I never thought he would hold on this long, biting the bullet
only applies to those who have a good chance at winning. Nonetheless, I'm
delighted to hear of Reagan's participance in an environmental stance; he's
pushing up daisies.
It's really interesting. A lot of Republicans I know had respect for
Reagan, BUT...big BUT...the same ones dislike the Bush's. When my stepdad
was a Republican (doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why he
switched recently), he voted for Reagan, but voted against Bush Sr. I
suppose Reagan just had some sort of charisma and -acted- his role very
well, lol.
I personally always wondered if Reagan knew what the Hells went on half of
the time due to his illness(es). I'd not be surprised if he didn't. Apart
from the Iran-Contra scandal, pissing off Bin Laden (supporting Afghan just
to kick Russia's ass then abandoning them), and being the President around
when the Cold War ended, I do not know much more about him. Then again, I
can only go so far talking about Reagan mainly because I was born in 86
myself and have to rely on little sources here and there. As I said
before, I'm trying to cut my political studies for a while.

Bush the first was the leader in the Iran contra thing, not Reagan. I do
remember the Reagan years. I was 8 when he got in office. i was 16 when he
left. I was politically active against him that whole time. I remember his
easy way with the press adn how good he was at dodging thier questions. I
remember how relaxed he was on camera, like no pres before or since. I
remember the awful suits he used to wear. I remember the insane things his
wife and Tipper Gore got up to. I remember the anti-regan buttons. I
remember the gas prices, and the unemployment. I remember the hostage
crisis. I remember the terrorist problems.
I also remember the comedy that came from it. Saturday night live was
practically a political satire show for years.
Its like having that big mean attack dog that lives next door die. or the
Bully on your block. Its a relief, but it also leaves a hole in your life.

Reagan was the last real Republican, and Nixon (usedta watch him on the
telly as a kid) was the second to last. Reagan inherited economic problems
and did what was necessary to make the economy grow slowly and steadily.
This involved some investments of resources that resulted in a temporary
slump, but it led to lasting economic strength. Clinton squandered this
strength like a child with a piggy bank, creating an artificial monetary
bubble that burst in early 2001. What was left when the smoke settled, GW
Bush is destroying bit by bit. His only mistake was the war on drugs,
because we all know that you can't win a war against an intangible concept
and that you can only sink money into the war endlessly. We still haven't
won the goddamned war on poverty that they started forty years ago and some
change, and this latest war on terror is just a morbid joke at this
point.
These bastards have a lot of damned gall calling themselves Republicans
after the likes of Nixon and Reagan.
Rest easy, Dutch, I'll always be out there trying to win one for the
Gipper.

I can't believe what I am hearing, you guys are SAD that Reagan is
dead???????????????????????????????? Holy shit he was a dumb motherfucker
not to mention one of the worst presidents of my times. The only thing good
that came out of the Reagan years was all the bad ass 80 political punk
rock. I did a "Good Riddence Reagan Tribute" on my radio show this week and
99% of my listeners agree that Regan was a jerk off. Thats all I have to
say. If you need me to eleborate more on why Reagan sucks I would be happy
to type it up.

Let me just be the first to say that when it comes to politics and such, i
am usually the one to be left in the dark in such discussions. I know close
to nothing about Reagan and his presidency or anything of the sort. But
from what i do understand he had some pretty good views and was a helluva
lot better president then Bush could ever be. Well, anybody could do a
better job running the country than Bush can, hell a baboon would do better
in office, but anyways thats beside the point. I'll miss ya Ronnie, just
wish i could've gotten to know you better.

Maybe it's my fascitious nature right now, but am the only one that thinks
this whole thing is really giggly and amusing?
I hear the news saying people might be considering him as one of the
greatest presidents of the century?! For god Christ sakes! They say he may
be in the top 3. I'm sorry, but JFK, Clinton, Eisenhower, Truman (except
for that fucked up A-bomb shit, only the rebuilding of Europe) both
Roosevelts....you're teling me these men can't bump Reagan from the top 3
slot? Unaceptable. He was going senile in office! I mean, he never started
a war for oil, or spent half his time in office at a god-damned
ranch....but still.
btw, "They extracted a .22 caliber slug from the President's wrinkly,
70-year-old left lung. Next, the doctors filled the damaged areas with
patching compound, waited for it to dry, then sanded, primed, and slapped
on two coats of high-gloss paint, tinted to match the coloration of healthy
tissue. In no time at all, Reagan was on the mend."
That link was HILARIOUS Sticupus!

I have the same opinion about every president and I will quote Douglas
Adams to describe what my opinion is:
"The major problem - one of the major problems, for there are several - one
of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to
do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to
rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the
summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should
on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the
summary: people are a problem."
And it is exactly that. Every president does good and bad things because
they are human. Every president has fucked something up while making
something else better. I don't vote because it is ALWAYS a matter of "who
is the lesser evil". The people who would be the best presidents wouldn't
want the job.
So how does Reagan fit into this? He was a charismatic public leader even
if he fucked up (like they all do and will). Plus he was the first
president to die in 30 years. People see the presidents as these Gods that
are only supposed to do good and never die. The fact that a president died
made it into some strange amazing historical event. To quote again "people
are a problem".
I don't remember Reagan's actions or mistakes. I hated politics and never
watched the news at that point in my life. I was too busy smoking pot and
getting drunk with my friends while ditching school. So I cannot say my
opinion of if he was a good president or not but his funeral made even me
get a little watery eyed and I don't even cry during movies.

I'd like to formally remove Harry S. Truman from my list of "Fuckers who
did a better job than Reagan this god-awful century" for the following
reasons:
Ignoring idea of dropping bomb on non-populated area of Japan
Ignoring Japan's frequent request for peace and the ending of WWII
Aparently detonating a bomb prior to the Trinity experiment in NM. You read
that correct, a year before the famous trinity test in the dessert, an
explosion rocked a SanFran California harbor, fragging an entire milliatary
vessel, trashing a milliatary base, and injury countless civilians. Of
course it was only TNT on the boat.....that caused a mushroom cloud....and
someone was around to record the event....and it was covered up.....and the
men on the boat were almost exclusively black, as were the rescue
parties....and then all the red tape was cut in the 80's and it turns out
they were just slaughtering people for tests. Black people of course.
Patients admitted to hospitals during the Manhatten project for
non-lifethreatening issues were sometimes given oral or intraveinous doses
of pure uraniun, You know, cuz, that's just the kind of country we
run...yeah...
He did other crap, but he really fought for all this A-bomb horseshit. He
is the anti-christ.
