Today as I was looking at the website for one of my favorite bands,
Anti-Flag, I ran across an article they had written. The story is here:
http://www.anti-flag.com/ER10.php?essay_item=8 What Sick Fuck Could
Hate Mr. Rogers? Well here he is!

Hate seems to be the thing these days.
I liked Mr. Rogers.

Yes, who doesn't like Mr. Rogers... (except for this backward guy)
It irritates me so much the 'if you're not with us, you're against us'
mentality these days.. The jesus site in the other forum was a good example
of that, too... But since its parody, hopefully we can laugh about it.
Of course, there -are- people out there like that.
Oh well... we can't get violent over this guy. I mean, what would Mr.
Rogers do? (wwmrd)

OK, now, I've never had a problem with phelps or his site. Sure, it's a
big hate mongering site, but hey, to each their own right, he want's to be
an asshole, let him, free speech and all that.
But to picket Mr. Rogers.
How the hell can someone do that?
That goes beyond being an asshole.
Right now, I'm wishing I turned down the new position so I would have been
back in Pittsburgh when this happened...

Who could hate Mr. Rogers really? He was/is always positive, kind,
thankful, and a all around nice guy on and off the screen. He was the less
annoying version of Ned Flannders, and more over a real person. This Rev.
is in for some seriously bad karma. Not to mention the "fags" will be the
ones poking the good Rev. in the ass in Hell. *side note* I need to start
making some hacker friends.

K, my brother in law doesn't LIKE mr. rogers, but he doesn't HATE him.
I ALWAYS like mr. rogers. My day didnt' revolve around him or anything (it
was a kind of booring show, but goddamn it if I NEVER turned away from the
set when I saw that little trolley come out...when i saw the trolley I knew
damn well that good times were a'comin) but he was always so soooothing and
just well NICE. Not over the top, not crazy or gimmicky, but just FRED.
With his little cardigan and house shoes *sigh* good man.
We got a shirt in at work that has a picture of him and it just says "Be
kind, please".
I love it. We have another one that says "Can you say special?" *lol* he
was such a good guy.
The one "melllllloooow" tv character I loved the most was Bob Ross. It was
time that me and my dad had, just us, sittin on the couch on a sunday
watching two hours of bob ross paintin his happy little trees and probably
tokin' up a big one during the commercial breaks *lol*

My earliest memories are of Fred Rogers.
With all the bickering between parents and the entertainment industry these
days, it always came as a comfortable relief that few could ever dispute
the wholsome appeal and universal charisma of Mr. Rogers.
I think that article addressed Mr. Roger's great accomplishment with youth
more than adequately, so I will not repeat it. Suffice to say that I will
always love Mr. Rogers and I have no doubt that all the good he has done
for us will be returned to him with eternal happiness.
But this Mr. Phelps...
...
... Mr. Rogers was one of the biggest contributors to my education in the
virtue of patience and forgiveness. Therefore, in respect to him, I will
not hate him.
I won't even say anything bad about him.
But a man who surrounds himself in hate is going to garner precisely that.
You reap what you sow, as they say.
This is a man who will be quaking on his deathbed.

I mean I was 5 but talking to trains and the endless closet of sweaters
kind of swayed me

Mr. Rogers was a sniper in his youth, had a large number of confirmed kills
too. Ever wonder why you never see his bare arms? Because snipers keep
track...I shit you not.
Personally, never had a problem with the guy...Mr. McFealy could go fuck
himself, but Mr. Rogers was da' man.

The best part about Mr Rogers was that he never shied away from actual
issues. I still remember the show he did where he talked about death. He
was super blunt but he did it in that same voice, same smooth soft tones.
My mom still likes to tell me how she could just turn on Mr. Rogers and
know that I wouldn't be getting into anything for an hour or so. She could
just sit back and read while Mr. Rogers talked about why I was cool the way
I was.
And Bettie, I'm right with you on the trolley. I loved that whole thing!
I just hope that Mr. Phelps realize that there are going to be several
generations of adoring Mr. Rogers fans who will not hit the brakes should
they see him crossing the street.

I can vaguely remember hearing about Mr. Rogers sniper days.

Thanks, dead-cell.
And, Dolo, I looked into it and it looks like the notion that Mr. Rogers
was a sniper is just a myth.
Though, I'll admit that picturing Mr. Rogers bust out like Solid Snake is
rather appealing. That's probably why the rumor persists, despite all the
effort that's been put into dispelling it.

Damn! Did any of you go to this guy Phelp's website? That has got to be
the sickest thing I've ever seen! They've even got a brainteaser where you
have to put 5 gays (represented by pink swastikas) and 3 kids (represented
by baby bottles) on a grid so that the gays cannot "get their filthy hands"
on the children! (since gays can move any number of spaces forward,
backward, or diagonal, rather like a chess queen.)
What's even scarier is, now that I think about it, it was this guy and his
followers that came to MY town a few months ago to picket around our
Catholic church! The one that my boyfriend was baptized at and had his
first communion! The one in whose cemetary my baby's grandmother is
buried! They came to protest some ex-priest of the church who apparently
had an affair with a teenage boy. There was a big stink about it in the
papers, and a counter-protest, and all-in-all it was very nauseating!
But God! To picket Mr. Roger's funeral? Mr. Rogers never even mentioned
homosexuality! Did he? How could even a hate-mongering homophobe like
Phelps possibly have a problem with Mr. Rogers? Just because he said he
liked you "just the way you are?" God, how nit-picking can you get? I can
just imagine this guy, scanning papers, watching TV shows, reading books
and magazines, with a little notebook in his hand, ready to pounce on
anything, ANYTHING that could possibly be construed as pro-gay, and then
sending down a little band of followers with signs to picket them! This
guy is fucking obsessed! I'd like to see him pass any psychiatric testing
- he's obviously got a screw or two loose. I mean, yeah, some people are
prejudiced, but this guy takes it to a whole new level! Kind of makes you
wonder what happened to HIM in his long-lost childhood to get his panties
in such a wad over the subject!

Oh! Dolo, you owe me a coke. Told you he wasn't in the service! Okay, I'm
done with that schtick.
Yeah, I went to the site. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Especcially
the "actual letters" from supposedly former gay men. The fact that they
both used the word "faggotry" really doesn't say much for credibility. What
a punk bitch.

Uh...guys...since when do snipers have military records open to anyone's
eyes? Of course it's a myth...but that doesn't mean it's not true.
Even if he isn't...I love thinking he is...I mean shit, his show takes on
a whole new level when you think of him as a cold killer...yay!!
Fuck, people are hilarious sometimes ya?

Mr. Rogers was the best! Watching his show was like prozac for kids. No
matter what else was going on, while you watched his show you just felt
good inside.
I don't want to know if the sniper myth is true or not. I like thinking
that it's just one of those unsolvable mysteries that lends character to
the memory of a person.

you dare say anything like that again about our friend. *narrows eyes*
