Since it's not out here yet - is it the remake of The Ring y'all seen?
Just curious if anybody has seen both, how the American version is compared
to the original? ____________________ All stressed out and no one to choke...

see.....But i hadn't come across a good horror movie that actually is
scarey.....all the new ones are lame....I came across a good horror movie
though that made me check under my bed before i went to sleep i had to
click on all the lights before going to the bathroom midway though the
movie and yet i didnt want to move off the couch cause i didnt want to miss
a Single thing.......Rose Red....I absolutely loved it.....it was 4 hours
long though but i was interested throughout the entire movie and i was
scared to the point of taking a second look through the shadows in the
dark! ____________________ My Life is like a porno-Without the sex-Just the weird music |

Ack, I remember when people were going ape-shit over Blair Witch Project.
It was ok, not frightening, but atleast it was creative.
Are you talk'in about the Lord of the Rings?
Starlight, great birthday gift or Christmass present for the Mr. (or
yourself *grins* heh) would defantly be any of the director's cuts of Evil
Dead.
I'm trying to decide what I should get first, Evil Dead 1 *uncut* or Dead
Alive? If I can find Lord of Illusions I will pick that up. Great movie.

Warning+++++Warning+++++Do NOT rent the following movies.....I have seen
alot of bad horror flicks but there are two out there that should have
never came into exsitance. I speak of the movies In The Woods, and Want To
Know A Secret. I think these movies were made for MysteryScience Theater
3000, thats how bad. ____________________ co-worker: "Your gay!?"

well, since this anonymous random person brought the thread back up with a
comment that makes little sense (at least to me) why not start conversation
again.
Personally I gotta say that I agree and since nearly three years ago when
this was started there STILL have not been too many great horror movies
come out. the ring 2? dear lord! apparantly Saw and the newly released Saw2
are pretty good though i have not seen them. Never liked signs very much at
all. just another OMG the aliens will come kill us all movie.
Evil Dead triliogy, yes, totally brilliant! extra specially when you watch
the first two at the same time while intoxicated.
quote: Oh, and for a new good
horror/suspense movie, "Frailty" is FANTASTIC!
of everything said i have to pick this one to quote because i loved
Frailty, it was not really a horror movie so much but it was one of those
ones that is kind of creepy and really leaves you thinking about what
happened and how everything fits together. what is real what is not? who is
he really? what just happened?
I liked Fatal Frame from what I saw of it, which was actually Fatal Frame 2
but all the same. I have not seen the whole game but it is quite
interesting.
Personally I liked ghost ship, especially scene where the wires come and
kill everyone dancing except the girl who is just that much too short and
standing in the right place. It was more gore and make you jump than
frighten you for the next week but it was still pretty good. not to mention
to uber cool holographic dvd case ^.^
Old horror movies were scary for the brain today they just want to play
around with all the cool things they can go visually and they seem to have
totally forgotten about plotlines and stuff. Or at least they have gotten
weaker at making them... maybe they are getting stupider or running out of
ideas which would explain the massive amount of remakes in the last decade
or so. Whatever happened to the old Twilight Zone or Outer Limits? they
have new versions of both these shows but the new episodes are still not
the greatest. There was this one Twilight Zone i saw years and years ago
where he forgot his lucky rabbits foot which was on his key chain inside
somewhere so he had to walk home instead of driving through stanley park at
whatever late hour i was and he was all scared of getting killed by
something crazy in the dark because he did not have his rabbits foot and he
finally made it through to his house and then there was a lion in his
apartment that ate him. for some reason that still kind of scares me. or
the outer limits one with the aliens that were defects from another planet
and they had these bee hive ships and stuff. i just read the book but i had
a friend at one point who randomly mentioned the episode and was still
scared from seeing it as a kid.
anyway i have ranted long enough - so is anyone going to see DOOM the
movie? from what i heard it is actually pretty good for a video game movie
and apparantly it has a bit of a twist that i won't spoil for anyone here.
I am psyched to go see it, whenever i actually do that >.> anyone seen it?
seeing it? decided to skip it?

Okay, I haven't read this whole thread but I've got my drink on and think I
know what I am talking about. You should watch Japanese horror movies, in
Japanese. Almost anything by Takashi Miike. Ringu, not fucking The Ring.
Even something innocent-like such as Happiness of the Katakuris is worse
than most modern horror. Either that or find yourself a ship and a good
crew and head out into the 'verse and try to stay clear of the Alliance. ____________________ Plenty of time, my sweet. Plenty of time. |

Yeah, Japanese anything is good it seems, in my group of friend we watch a
lot of anime. What I love most about anime is the depth of the characters
compared to english cartoons, sitcoms, series or movies. Even in a short
movie they can fit enough character development in to mae the viewers fall
in love with the characters. They model characters after real people with
vices and worries and secrets instead of stereotypes who are usually 2D and
pretty shallow. |

Alright, coupla things.
I love shitty movies, always have, prolly always will...but I also like
good movies, and ya, horror is pretty much dead in theatres, with a few
notable last gasps.
I do believe it has moved onto a new platform with videogames...there is
some seriously fun disturbing crap out there, I was playing The Suffering
the other night and actually jumped a coupla times, not to mention DOGS
JUMPING OUT OF THE WINDOWS. Jesus, that game is how old and it still gets
me...EVERY DAMN TIME.
Anywho, for good stuff, grab the strange junk with unpretty covers, none of
the new pretty stuff.
For my vote tho...there is a movie that isn't exactly horror, but takes a
horror staple that has been raped mercilessly over and over again and
breathes new life into it, so much so that I actually threw my White
Russian thrrough a window, cheered and kicked my table over (At a very
specific scene, watch it and you'll know exactly when I did it.)
That movie is Dog Soldiers.

old Twilight Zone was scary .. and out Outer Limits, cus they were more
mental.. its all about the mental shock you can give people with horror
movies - fuck em up for life.
I saw Wolf Creek yesterday - New horror movie made in Australia by
Australians, im not sure why it is even showing in this country but it was
pretty good (since all the north american movies suck). It was quite scary
i thought, the person i went to see it with wasn't really scared at all but
when characters are screaming and panicking - i get panicked... afterwards
im fine... but there was quite a bit of panic in this one considering the
short run time and the short time they were in captivity/running away
etc.
it was different than the way they film american movies - more like a
person with a videocam and they didn't use any "DUN Dun dun" tricks to make
things seem really cool - the landscape was cool enough just being filmed
anyway.
also the acting was more like human interaction than movies usually are -
maybe because it was because of the camera work i dunno. wasn't as
cheesy... |

I saw that best horror the other day. there was a mangle, a linen closet
thing, and the use of a telephone with spooky voices. it was ........."
Martha Stwart!" bwahahahahaaaa.
ok so it wasnt scary in the "kick over your table" sense, but it was scary
in the "this is what a good homemaker should do" sort of way.
but really, she did use a mangle and talking lovingly about how it worked.
it was sort of sick and scary. ____________________ Real goths wear silver and crosses to keep the werewolves and vampires

Ok, I had to look up what a mangle was. Doing your whole family's laundry
with one of those every single day is truly a horrifying thought. Good old
days my ass! |

i always thought it would be fun to use one of those... obviously i have
never used one. anything like martha is terribly horrific. like this one
woman on the radio called Delilah. patronized every single person that
calls in and demeans their problem then plays a horrible song for them.
>___>
especially bad at christmas when she only seems to have three possible
songs to play. |

I sort of accidentally watched Ring 2 the other day. I guess it's sole
purpose was to give those who were worried after Ring 1 some sort of
closure. I'm claiming I watched it by accident and I'm sticking to my
story.
On another note, I'm hoping that Ringu will end up on one of the movie
channels (with subtitles) one of these days. ____________________ "When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've

Have I yet mentioned House of Wax? It was pretty cool, kind of gross in
some parts (trying not to spoil anything >.<) but cool. Uber talented with
the waxing I must say. Wasn't too scary though - not like Wolf Creek
