It had to happen, and I can´t say I´m really surprised. It has happened to
some smaller extend earlier, but it seems it´s here with full force this
autumn. And although I observe the phenomena from "way off in Europe" (as
you can notice from a couple of mis-spellings) I’m quite sure it is taking
place in America, too.
Guys and gals: We are fashionable! At least according to “anyone who knows
anything about fashion”...
Where I live, I can hardly open a newspaper or a magazine without reading
about how trendy goff suddenly is. Of course the media fucks up as usual,
they even credit "us" for Satyricon (black metal) topping the charts. And
the girl who makes our best selling cartoon, Nemi, (about a cynical kickass
gothchick) was voted third most sexy woman in the country. (She looks like
a cross between Sindel and the dark girl in Dawsons Creek...
http://www.dagbladet.no/magasinet/2002/07/30/344627.html)
Fer crying out loud, I was even invited to talk about goff on a _childrens
show_ on our national tv-station.
I am a bit confused by all this. Part of me reacts really childish,
thinking Hey get away from My Stuff you bleedin Mansonsniffin fakies...
And get yourself a Bauhaus album!
Then I start looking at the pictures from the various catwalks – Gucci and
whatnot, and maaan, some of that shit looks really great. (Where is the
Platinum AmEx when I need it!) Maybe it’s not so bad, having the streets
filled with really cool looking people. I mean, as long as I don’t expect
them to have something other than the look in common with me. Which I am
rather used to already, I can’t say I have that much in common with many of
the people who frequents the goth club here as it is.
And not to mention, when the hype is over, we can indulge in the sales
racks!
The most redeeming feature of the trend, however, is that maybe one or two
find their way to the real goth, whatever that may be. I applaud every
soul who turns to a more sensible (read: my) view on life.
This link has not only some stunning fashion pics, but an amazingly good
background photo series on the trend, too: http://www.style.com/trends/trend_report/071502/index.html<

I cant tell if i should laugh or cry or offer my services as a fashion
consultant. Maybe the last would be the best idea since i have next to no
fashion sense....
This same thing happened breifly in the 80´s as well and the fad died a
quick death since next to no suburban mom wanted to have to shop that much.
Here´s to lazy people....

Great, when fashion words collide-- giant black fishnet arrow collars and
steeltoe clogs.

I have to agree with callei here. They´ve just run out of ideas, saw
something that interested them and made it fashionable. It happaned before
and it will most likely die in a couple of months, replaced with a new
´fashion´ or ´trend´. That´s how the buissnes works.
I´ll just wait for all the fashion following crowd to get sick of it when
it goes out and pick up a couple nifty items or two when they end up in the
thrift shops.
Neener neener fashion fools, more black for me!

Oh and I almost forgot something funny as hell.
These little bubblegum blink 182 girls were in my store the other day, and
bitching about that new pop girl "averil" and that "She STOLE my LOOK man,
*I* was wearing ties before ANYONE *I* started that and she´s COPYING ME."
I laughed SOOO HARD thinking; "Yes honey, her "people" follow YOU around
because you´re soooo fashion forward with your ties and plaid skirts.
HellOOO! AC/DC, RETARD! You´re not THAT special and original. First to
wear ties my ass. Aren´t we a little snowflake."
There´s little around now that isn´t a "remade" golden oldie...remember a
few years back when bellbottoms came back in? When flower power was all
the rage for 6 months somewhere back in the 90´s? When watered down "punk"
hit mainstream years back (when screeching weasle and blink 182 hit big)
and studded bracelets and plaid was all the rage? Well it still is...its
taking a little while longer to croak it´s death rattle...oh well.

"Whether you are a devoted-to-dark minimalist, a modern-day Elvira or a
recovering punk, click right to trace the trend´s inspiration, learn how to
wear it and see STYLE.com´s edit of the runway looks."
*begins laughing hysterically*
Ok, I´m looking at these little slide shows and I just read some of these
captions.
"Hardcore meets goth: L’il Kim in Vogue, 1999."
"Goth goddess Angelina Jolie with her brother at the 2001 Oscar Awards.
From Vogue, 2001."
What next, a "goffic" Aeropostle!? Lil´ Kim is "hardcore?" And there is
such a thing as a "goth goddess?"
hehe, I haven´t laughed so much this week than I did just now.
Oh, oh! I forgot to add this!
"Alexander McQueen, Ann Demeulemeester and Tom Ford at Gucci went over to
the dark side, with their powerful Gothic collections among the season´s
most influential."
Reminds me of Star Wars, there´s now a "dark side" and "light side" of the
"force" in fashion.
hehe...ah.
Well, I thought that the next "trend" would be, like Bettie mentioned,
"bubblegum kids" wearing their daddy´s ties.......it´s better than seeing
everyone with gold plated teeth and pants so baggy that they barely hang
around their ankles.
Aw, I´m sure it will pass in a few months or less, because it´s probably a
autumn/winter trend - no ´normal´ person wears black in the summer, eh? ;-)
But on the other hand, this sort of stuff makes me want to put on my old
plaid skirt (Braveheart-Punk Oi!), military boots and go throw some bricks
at the big sign that has "hypocrisy" written all over it...

Now we can say that anyone, anywhere in anything that was black was or is
gothik!
Yeah!

It was just pointed out to me that goth as a fashion trend has made it on
to the pages of YM magazine. It´s only going to go downhill from here.

goffhik iz in style accordin to YM mag?!? like wow!
Look on the bright side...
uh...
hmm.
Well, as long as MTV doesn´t start to try to profit from this fashion
trend...
...the thought of it makes me want to throw my boot at the tv.
(that´s the reason why i don´t watch tv much)
*listening to us and them*
Ah! Thank god for Pink Floyd!
heh, this whole fashion thing is funny but as long as there isn´t a rush of
people who come to Shmeng and start typing "lik diz, say´in how gothik dey
be" then I´ll be happy.
Nah, the thing about two-moth-trends are they´re only skin deep, it doesn´t
go further than the coat and kohl.
And goff music will probably never come back in fashion. Unless you count
Marilyn Manson
..It _did_ reach MTV, come to think about it... A couple of the boybands
were really into the look a year ago or so...
But for now, sit back & wait for the sales! For us provincial people it
finally possible to find nice shoes for instance.

One style that really irratates me is the little look the chickenheads have
picked up, Black Punk studded belts on their Tight Camel toe hoochie boot
flair jeans.
Okay.. your pants are already so tight that you can see the folds in your
damn crotch.. why the HELL do you need a Belt??
*grumbles*

sitting next to a girl who is very pop-starish can benifit if you´d like to
see the trends. She was looking at seventeen magazine-at the clothes at
least and now its punk mixed with "hello kitty" pins and belts, also belts
that say "foxy" and stuff like that. I haven´t noticed much of the goth
stuff in style, maybe i´m just not looking hard enough.

The evil penguin of Hello Kitty fame is certainly goffhik.
Oh man, the "punky" hello kitty *snicker* I sell that at work it´s sooooo
funny!
And even funnier were these mallrats in fucking black cowboy dusters and
tyedye tee shirts and tech or camoflauge pants..you can imagine it....they
walked by a section and saw the punky hello stuff, and this 13 year old
girl in the group said "oh man look, it´s GOTHIC hello kitty" (? I
thought...a plaid skirt with saftey pins on a japanese cat is goth?) and
this big tall dork that was in the group as well (the one in the tyedye
teeshirt and camopants *shudder*) said "nuh uh, it´s POSER hello kitty...I
SHOULD KNOW" whilst "swooshing" his dirty trenchcoat and sweeping away with
his entourage doing a poor version of the "I´m not walking I´m GLIDING"
thing the ubers do.
OMG don´t say anything you´re on the clock...you are a GOOD customer sales
representative manager....I kept telling myself whist jamming a fist into
my mouth and walking away.
This hello kitty thing will go away, and so will the "tigerbeat" "teenbeat"
and "17" magazine trends. They´ll get over it. They always do. Someone
in the fashion industry will inadvertantly crack their back sooner or later
and get another dose of old acid sitting in their spine and have a
flashback to the "good old days" and "reinvent" another fashion trend that
will inevitably make anyone with a sense of taste positively green.
Happens all the time, kids!
Now for the fashion trend I´d like to see end....fucking lace up pants. I
mean, okay, a lace up fly instead of a zipper, alright. But lace up fly
and lace up legs?! The worst part is that the laces are functional, so you
have size 11 girls buying size 5 pants and letting out the laces....so they
have bare leg from ankle to hip and a ´waffle´ thing going on.
Nothing against size 11 girls, I been there and beyond, and when I was the
last thing I wanted someone to look at was my leg oozing out the side of my
pants.
That, and aplique belts. A leather belt shouldn´t be frilly. No.
Absolutely not.
Hey, at least spandex is officially DEAD...for the most part.
