Okay, House of 100 Corpses IS worth seeing, but not worth paying for, thus
I reccomend sneaking-in, having someone else (preferably someone yoo don't
care for) cover yoo, or watching it on HBO.
Rob Zombie intentially put every shitty cliche he could into it, gave it a
decent gore factor, and gave it ZERO sense of humor! The result: TOTAL
CRAP! The problem, if yor going to make a movie that TRIES to be like all
the classic crappy horror movies (most of which I love) yoo have to give it
a sense of humor or else not try so damn hard. It's like a cross between
all the lamest aspects of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Gummo, and Natural Born
Killers.
My reccomendation: if yoo wanna see a movie that's actually disturbing and
not total cheese, see Irreversible. This actually takes mee back to why I
posted here in the first place because I wouldn't be suprised if Hollywood
rips it off 2 years down the road just like they did with the Ring (yoo
know, for someone who's as into foreign flicks, indies, and underground
cinema as I am, yoo'd think I would have seen Ringu by now, FOR SHAME
SQUID!) The same prediction goes for Das Experiment which yoo must all see
or else discontinue living.

Oh, and PsychoPixie: That's fucking hillarious! The last time someone
told mee they saw the "real" Necronomicon, I promptly began to drool and
mysteriously developed an insatiable appetite for their brains!

When the woman was coming out of the TV in the Japanese version why didn't
he quickly change the channel to Baywatch and have Pamela Anderson come out
of the TV instead?

I sort of thought the movie (Hollywood version) was going to end with the
next morning...cuz it did make sense that by finding how the girl died and
who killed her and rescuing her so she could be buried properly, etc...well
it was like it was geared up to have alternate endings. In other words,
they could have gone with the reason the woman was okay was because she
found out what the girl was trying to get known...it was almost a let down
that it was as simple as making the copy of the movie. I liked the
movie...it was cool...but it just almost seemed like the other ending might
have made the movie's ending flow better with the rest of the movie.

Congrats to a fellow birthday-in-the-easterholiday-victim, Squid. Mine was
yesterday. Yup, I am now 17. (Didn't bother explaining that one earlier)
Gee, I feel so young. I AM so young. My birthday is the same as Napoleon
III, Hitler and Gro Harlem Brundtland's (previous Norwegian Prime
Minister). There is a certain pattern, right?
Anyway, Kat: I just missed the e-mail, so I didn't manage to fill out the
form and give it to Terje before I went on holiday. Shall get it to
them shortly, though.
OK, I'll shut up now and let this thread go back to Ringu.

i am resurrecting this post because i am disgusted with the
misrepresentation of house of 1000 corpses.
agreed it is not worth paying to see. download it or something. but as a
schlock gorefest it is the canine's testicles.
it is a remake of texas chainsaw massacre 3 (or so ive read, not having
seen the film) and is not devoid of humour. in fact the whole excercise is
pretty much ironic. rob zombie has taken one of THE all time cheesiest
horror sequels and given it a rob zombie twist. that is to say subtle
[sarcasm] anti-government undertones (just read the teeshirts some of the
characters are wearing).
the whole POINT of the film is to be cheesy and it succeeds admirably, and
is a good fun watch, though far from an alltime great.
and on the other subject, ring. ring(u) rocks. it is without doubt the best
horror film i have seen. totally disturbing with superb cinematography and
production values.
ring 2 is worth a watch, it isnt as good by any means but has some greatly
disturbing aspects. it also tries to go some way to explaining some of the
more obscure points of the first one, though i feel it is a bit hammy come
the ending.

for all of those who liked Ringu, you should try some of the other Japanese
horror movies. They've got a bunch of them at the blockbuster near me, and
all I had to say after watching all of them was.... dude, there is
something seriously wrong with Japanese people. These movies creeped me out
in ways a typical Hollywood horror film never could. Movie titles to look
for: Tomie, Tomie 2, Uzumaki and Suicide Club. Tomie 2 is about a
disembodied head that is taken c-section from a 6 year old girl's body, and
grows into a whole girl who uses mind control to kill people. Uzumaki is
about a curse involving spirals. Suicide Club is about a string of strange
mass-suicides among the Japanese youth. That one was actually more
disturbing than the horror films, mostly because of the creepy little J-pop
group that kept coming up in weird ways. I'm addicted to these things now.
They give me strange dreams at night.

I will hesitantly recommend The Grudge, both of the versions. But it comes
with a warning. People either find it incredibly scary, or they think it is
the stupidest thing they have ever seen. There is no in between.
^ Lookie ^
The Grudge was originally titled Juon; for those looking for the Japanese
version. As for Tomie the first five minutes were fine but the rest I
snoozed through. Yes I know she was a lesbian demon good for a plot twist,
but it felt like the story needed to be developed more. Not to mention
Godzilla had a more believable cast. Uzumaki the movie gets kind of corny
with its snail lust. While the Uzumaki manga was praised for it's
Lynchian feel, and creepy use of spirals. At my local Blockbuster there is
a copy of St. Johns Wart I'm thinking of checking out.... By the way Rob
Zombies back with The Devils Rejects along with some familiar faces from
House of 1000 Corpses.

i wonder when people in hollywood are going to realise that they cant rely
on japanese movies to build their career's off of.
it cost 48,000,000 to makeand grossed128,000,000... that seems to be a
business success... and hollywood cannot even begin to understand a good
movie, it's all about profit...
