I know I am not the only one who gets sucked into drab, dull, and lifeless
routines. It's pretty easy to do. Sadly, there are many people who get
completely engulfed by their routines, and forget that there is more to
life than the basic structures of survival.
Shmeng always seemed to me to be full of people who knew how to live, not
just go through the motions. This website has slowed down to a trickle,
but what I'm curious about is, have the people who used to come here also
died down to trickles? If not, what are you doing that keeps your life
from being more than a series of inhalations and exhalations?
For me, the big thing is firespinning. Been doing it for a year now, and
I've been throwing huge amounts of effort into it. To me, it is art and
dance and adrenaline and spirituality all in one, and it challenges and
satisfies me on so many levels, I can't even begin to name them. It's
opened me up to a whole community of really awesome people, broadened my
horizons, and really been a catalyst for some pretty deep change in my
approach to life.
So, you lurkers (I know you're out there!), if you can be induced to log in
and write a few lines, let me know what you're up to that gives your life
excitement and dimension. Big or little, I don't care what - just let me
know that you haven't all turned into a bunch of near-zombies, with no
spark. I'd like to know that, even if we aren't all gathered together
here, interacting as we used to, that we are at least scattered around this
world, adding that little extra something that makes it all worth while. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the

I wish I was doing something more than going through the motions. Lately
it seems all I do is work and stress over money. Blah, that is crap. I
need to get out more. I used to perform at a Renaissance Festival, but I
haven't done that for a couple years, which sometimes makes me sad. ____________________ When nothing is left - what are you standing on? - Drake of LS

My life was in danger of fizzling out while I was still in Seattle. Moving
to Hawaii is what prevented that from happening. Life is too short to live
someplace that isn't beautiful. There's a bunch of other things that have
contributed - MRD for example. Also - BDSM, playing music again, being a
rockstar (those are two different things), playing outdoors, and being
someplace where it's possible to have a larger circle of friends locally
but still find them all interesting. All of that is probably also what has
kept me from putting much energy into this site over the last several
years. I don't mind though. I miss this place, but living is fun too. ____________________ So Sayeth Me |

Devin, I'm so glad you saved yourself from fizzling! I found myself in
grave danger of that a couple of years ago, and I distinctly remember being
aware that I had a choice - the easy one of sliding down into the kind of
pointless depressive state that I seemed headed towards, or bucking the
current and insisting on and fighting for a kind of life that was actually
worth living. I absolutely refuse to be the stereotypical struggling
single mom who lives life like they inhabit a dead end. I'm not in a dead
end. I have my limitations, sure, but there is so much I can do still.
Playing with fire is just the beginning. I have not yet begun to live. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the

Speaking of not yet beginning to live - Schizo and the Kindergothen are
entering a whole new venue of fun and excitement - roller derby! We're
welcoming suggestions for derby names. Any ideas? ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and

Devin, I know exactly what you mean... I had my breakdown, spent 16 weeks
in the loonie bin... got out and was just... a wreck, fading away...
Then Sears fired me from my tier 5 customer service position and I moved
back to new orleans... picked my movie making back up...
With the creative process came revitalization... ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

I don't think I've become a trickle swirling the drain. Quite the opposite,
I have become well rounded and I have enhanced my knowledge and
understanding of life. I live it a lot more than I ever have. But, it
doesn't mean I don't still need you all to. Wherever life takes me, you're
all still family to me.

Let me think on it a moment...I've managed to get a few things sorted out
and going smoothly now...got rid of some major sources of stress...still
happily married to the same great guy...and we've been very careful with
any and all olive branches extended to and from relatives...now we keep it
on a level we are comfortable with...not with how we're expected to
be...and we've dropped those proverbial olive branches we were not
comfortable with...and we're much happier now...we used to tiptoe around
some situations...and now we've decided...we are how we are...like us for
us or don't like us for us...and while we've always felt that way...and
tried to be that way and just pack it in when it stressed out the other
side...well, now we figure...hey we have to deal with them as they
are...so, now they get to deal with us how we are.............that's the
long to way of saying that it's really good to just be us and to be happy
being us...ohh...and btw...I am, as always, still involved in animal rights

Academia. I've just got some funding to do some guided research on the
reception of late 19th-early 20th century American female authors in
Britain. That's qutie cool.
Aside from that, I've spent the last 5 years (i.e. since I last posted)
working for Games Workshop until I decided to get back into education, and
then studying English Literature with Creative Writing.
On the personal side, I still play the flute and have started to meditate.
The latter hardly lifts me far above the madding crowd, but it's a better
way to spend half an hour than watching TV.
Do I think that I've prevented fizzle? No. I feel like my soul has died; I
can't get excited about anything much anymore and thinking about current
affairs and politics fills me with rage. Instead of a burning passion to
see the world change for the better, I just feel a passionate desire to see
the world burn...for the better. ____________________ Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

I just logged in today on a lark. Life does tend to pass by way too quickly
at this point. I have been tattooing the last 6 years or so and have now
opened my own tattoo shop. I still paint when I have the time. But most of
our lives revolve around our 3 year old. It is difficult to find much time
for anything else really. ____________________ When the world is over, will we wonder how it began? |
