I know that it isn't really a feature, but at the same time, any social
network boasts a grand number of members - right now, I am the only one to
post in months. In fact, I doubt anyone will read this and I don't know
what I am hoping for or why I keep checking - something brought me here
again - maybe I wasn't the only person to hear the call. ____________________ When nothing is left - what are you standing on? - Drake of LS

Whitedove,
You seem to have missed the boat. There was a time about 5 years ago
where this site was a constant stream of new ideas. It was pretty
impressive really. Most of us have moved on to other phases of our lives
though, and only check the site once in a while out of nostalgia. I'm
still in touch with a lot of people that I met on Shmeng though (and living
with one of them). We are all still around, and still have pretty much the
same brains that we did back then. The need for this site is all that has
faded off into history. I'm glad you found us though - and that all of
this resonated with you enough to stick around and hope that we all come
back.

I know that everyone has moved on, I did too, for a time. I guess I am
feeling the nostalgia too. As I said, I feel like I am missing something
in my life, so I was tracing my roots to find it. I used to be here and
read years ago, felt like I was part of a community. That is something I
think I am somewhat missing now. I am still greatful that you took the
time to reply Devin, it matters to me. ____________________ When nothing is left - what are you standing on? - Drake of LS

I certainly haven't logged on in years either. For me, I stopped coming to
the site when you created the Karma system, Devin. One of you
administrators disagreed with something I said and I lost access to a lot
of the site.
Now I get my forum fix at ratebeer.com- thanks for hosting a great site,
though, I especially remember reading each new installment of Toy Dolls on
the bus to high school as it came out. ____________________ "Goths were first introduced to children with the invention of Darkwing

Worthless... the karma system took a lot more than one disagreement to get
parts of the site blocked to you...
White... Honestly... Most of us moved on when it was revealed that the
fundamental understanding of each other we thought we possessed... didn't
really exist...
Further, the open exchange of brilliance can be maintained, but when people
don't have a fundamental respect for the purity of thought and allow
dilution of the ideal, it fails.
Some were erring on the side of compassion for the less than brilliant and
others (myself among them) were harsh on the less than brilliant. Those
that were trollish and noisy idiots were coddled. People formed alliances
and defended each other...
Eventually some egos were bruied by imagined slights (I am not disputing
the validity of the feelings) and others defended themselves... no on knows
who attacked who and who defended themselves...
Eventually, as with all communities, the strong personalities collided and
the dream ended. I have thought of posting again, but I realized that my
only reason for doing so would be to get my ego stroked. ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

Hey, nothing wrong with getting your ego stroked, just like anything else
you can get stroked. It's nice. It feels good. All that matters is the
who and the how of it.
Shmeng used to be my ego-stroking place of choice, and, as my ego was
pretty damn virginal, I really needed it. Now I have people IRL who are
willing and eager to indulge in mutual ego-stroking. Those from this site
who are still interested in my ego or other parts of my being know where to
find me, and if you don't, by all means, let me know and I'll point you in
the right direction!

But in most cases... it would be for validation... and that is the very
reason I left... I didn't need validation, even though some believed I did.
Ironically enough... today I actually tried to post an article...and was
told I am not authorized... seems to be fated ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.
