i work in a restuarant, and the pay is shit though that is another topic.
generally while going about my duties, i see some very interesting people
enjoying their meals,
but last night this woman who i would guess was about 7 or 8 months
pregnant came in with a party of five other people, and about half way
through the meal she started guzzling beer in a fashion that would make
most frat boys proud.
now i am the first person to say "hey its your life, do what you will" but
at this i just had to to say what the fuck. i don't plan on getting into a
pro life or pro choice minded argument here but i mean c'mmon where was
that womans concern for her child that has to suffer through that use of
alcohol? now all this, in front of what i am assuming was her husband -who
did nothing to the effect of telling her to slow down- did neither of them
have a mind in their skull to realize how potentially fucked up their child
could turn out?just becasue she didnt want to give up the comfort of a beer
in her hand for nine months? or was that just me?

i think that it woudl matter only if a) they were intelligent enough to hav
eplanned for the pregnancey, but since 98% of people just fuck till it
happens, I doubtt they did... or b) they had worked for years to get
pregnant...
otherwise, honestly, fuck it... there are millions of people who shouldn't
be parents, the US should require liscences... if we can't enforce it on
all... why should we give a shit about the one

The problem with people is they don't understand cause and effect. Cause
and effect, people! If ya screw around without adequate protection, you're
gonna get pregnant. Funny thing; it seems like the few people who actually
want to get pregnant (perish the thought), can't. The responsible
people who would actually make good parents try and try . . . which reminds
me---it's really impolite to tell people you're trying to get pregnant;
conjures up images . . .
So what should the childbearing license be based on? Intelligence,
responsibility . . . ? Or there could be chastity belt that will only
unlock if you breathe into its breathalyzer, so people who are silly drunk
cannot unwittingly procreate. I don't think the license should be based on
intelligence alone; plenty of academically stupid people can handle raising
children--it's the irresponsible people who should not be trusted with
babies/toddlers/preadolescents/teenagers/young adults . . . and if this
woman you speak of can't even take care of an unborn baby, imagine
how she'll handle the kid once it breathes and cries.
This is not to say that unplanned pregnancies can't work out; I've seen
relationships thrive despite the strain of an unplanned child. Even so, in
an ideal world babies would be born only to people in a well-established,
committed relationship. I wish this still happened . . . at the day camp
where I work, there are only a handful of kids whose parents are still
married to each other. One sweet little girl, she must be seven or so,
came in and told us about how the night before, her daddy locked her mommy
in the bedroom, and how he smashed her foot in the door and she screamed
and cried . . . That kind of relationship should NOT involve a little girl
. . . man, it's time to get that vasecomy clinic started . . .
Two words: compulsory birth-control Okay, it's probably three, but the
hyphen works for me right now.
The only reason I opt for compulsory is because MOST people, whether they
accidentally get pregnant or PURPOSELY get pregnant, are responsible enough
to care for kids, let alone not get knocked up/knock someone up in the
first place. Don't get me wrong, I know several people who had unplanned
children, and did fine. They discovered the situation they were in, and
began to prepare on day one, either for an abortion or to be someone's
mom/dad. However, they are the minority. I had a discussion with my papa
the other day about how bad kids are behaved nowadays the other day. I
told him it was simple, it was generations of careless misbehaving idiots
raising misbehaving idiots who in turn pop out and raise misbehaving
idiots. He was a substitute teacher for years, and he was saying that yes,
even good kids would occasionally cut up in class, but even the regular
"bad" kids would straighten up if a teacher called them on it and said cut
it out. Now it's the GOOD kids that say "make me" when they're acting out
and you tell them to straighten up.
I've seen "trailer trash" raise better children that turn into better
adults than the wealthy and "upstanding", and I've seen more "trash" be
more careful during pregnancy (so as to avoid any medical problems with
themselves or their child which they can't afford) than well off people who
can afford the tests to see if their early pregnancy drinking mutated their
baby or not.

Regarding white trash and money, the reason my 44-year-old aunt just had an
unplanned baby is because she and her husband were too poor and white-trash
to afford permanent birth-control procedures. But you're right; this
trailer-trash couple has raised three of the nicest (albeit naive) children
I've ever met. Good old-fashioned country livin' will do that, I guess.

no i do agree with you all. nowadays you cant blame it on being misinformed
about this kinda thing, its just impossible and for me to think that people
just dont give a shit about it alothough those people may be less than the
mojority, pisses me off, though i shouldnt say that it surpirses me in the
least. bettie is perfectly right, and i think you all made mention, its a
matter of people being willing to take those measures to ensure a healthy
outcome for all, societal background aside.
but i do like the idea of the drive through vasectomy(spelling??) clinic
that i read about some where else on the site. cudos to the wouldbe
inventor, i think a few of those pamphelts spread around town for
advertising would do wonders.

They're also working on the male contraceptive pill/injection too. What
killed me is they asked the public what they thought, and all these girls
were like "That'd be great, but what if he lies to you?" Oh, like the
zillion other women who lie to guys and say "oh don't worry I'm on the
PILL!" ? It cracked me up. The pill doesn't work all the time, and if you
don't wanna get pregnant, then double up the anti-babymakers.
Now back to irresponsible already pregnant people harming their
unborn...
There was a girl I used to know in tacoma mall, who was not only the WORST
cigarette bum on the face of the earth, but she bummed them from EVERYONE
even when she was pregnant! I rarely gave them to her, but then when she
was pregnant, I wouldn't give them to her at ALL and she actually looked at
me and said "Oh it's okay, I don't smoke that much, and the doctor said if
I just don't smoke a LOT I can do it."

I love the ones that say "oh its only bad in the first 3 monts, after you
can go back to doing whatever you want"
can they continue to do "whatever they want" once the baby is born? some of
them sure try to.

My husband's ex's third child (my step-kid's little half-sister) was born
very small. Not dangerously small, but easily 5 lbs lighter than her other
two. The reason? Smoking, and tons of coffee. At least, those are the
reasons she would do in front of us. We've actually got a picture of her,
pregnant, with a cig in her hand. The child was born with such a small
head that it FELL out instead of being pushed out! And her labor was
induced a week or so early, because the baby's heart-beat was erratic. She
spent some time in the incubator after birth, because the fluid hadn't been
squeezed out of her lungs during labor.
She didn't have that problem with the older two, because Michael would take
her cigarettes away when she was pregnant. She still smoked some, but a
lot less.
It was horrible how unconcerned about the issue she was. Especially after
the shit she gave her sister about smoking and drinking during her
pregnancy. And her nephew popped out 10 lbs with a huge head. But of
course, her precious baby girl wasn't harmed by SMOKING! The IDEA!

I believe I have seen a picture of michael's mother breastfeeding him with
a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. She was using
her elbows to keep him up.

I have seen bad...but not that bad....i don't see why people do it, but
meh..I can't change people. It's their own fault if their baby is tanked
when it gets born.

Eh, her only excuse is she is who she is (*shudder*) and it was the early

till...well it never will.

And then there are the ladies who are too fat or too cracked-out to know
they're pregnant. I met a former cranker who gave birth to dead twins,
eight months along, because she didn't understand that all the drugs were
harming her babies. Also, my dad has an obese client who went to the
hopsital for abdominal pains, and to her surprise the hospital staff told
her she was in labor. Cause-and-effect, people . . .

Didn't the obese woman FEEL the baby move at all? Even if you can't feel
it from the outside, you should be able to feel something squiggly inside!
I wonder what reason she gave in her head for that odd feeling.
And didn't she notice she wasn't having her period, either?
But damn, that news must have taken some adjusting to!

a 97 year old woman had gotten pregnant in her teens, and the fetus died,
she was taken to the hospital for abdominal discomfort... the fetus had
petrified inside her... seen the news story on this one myself

and then there are the rather nasty cases of the siamese parasites. those
rather freak me out. and wasnt there that kid that gave birth to its own
brother somehow?
my ex was telling me all these stories of such things last time i was with
her. not pretty things to hear about.

Believe it or not, there have been women as far as 8 months along without
knowing. They cycle regularly, a bit chubbier than average, and carry the
baby far back in their abdomen. It's wierd, but it does happen. I knew a
lady who went into labor, and the administrator at the hospital called up
the emergency obstetricians to stop her contractions because the lady
refused to belive she was more than 4 months along. She was a full 9
months, but really barely showing her 8 lb baby, because she carried it way
back and down low and it wasn't noticeable at all. And I also knew someone
who was on depo, and went to the doc and found that her "stomach flu" was a
pregnancy 7 months along. I think I'd die from shock if that was me.
