well, happilly may will be my 20th birthday so the under 18 thing doesn't
matter anymore. I actually have the possibility of getting up the cash to
go this time, and I only work 4 day weeks every week. so every friday
saturday and sunday I have free and if need be if it is later in june july
I can ask for another day off or so for travel. So HELL YEAH. .
but how much do these things usually cost?

I still need concrete dates from people for this. Please, message me with
what dates are good for you, so I can match them up with everyone else's
"good dates" and get rolling on when this thing is going to be. If I don't
get feedback, I'll just plan it and hope for the best.
As far as cost goes, it was $150 per person last year. I would really like
to see people send in their share before we have to make the reservation,
so that the bulk of it doesn't come out of one or two people's pockets. We
were getting fairly nervous last year, waiting for people to pay up.
We can make this happen, but we need your cooperation to make it go
smoothly. Please work with us on this if you really want to go.

Okay... I would really really like to be able to make this happen again.
Last year's get-together was nothing short of magical. I know that everyone
would have a great time just being together for a few days. It seems that a
lot of people would like to go, but that there are specific problems
involved.
1) The heat of New Orleans during the summer months. Yes, it was
uncomfortable. There are too many people here who have kids who are in
school, or are in school themselves to have this at any other time,
however. The idea I had (that was supported by Callei) was that we have it
in a more northerly area that isn't terribly hot in the summertime. After
looking around a bit, I found that I could rent a house in Put-In Bay.
That's an island in Lake Erie. Not as glamorous as New Orleans, by any
means... but this is more about the people than the place, anyway. I'm sure
we can all find something to do together for a few days... there are
beaches and caves, and a strange spot not far away on the mainland where
gravity works backward and nobody knows quite why. Basically a laid-back
place where we can all play together and have a great time and get to know
one another and enjoy each other's company. Without overheating.
2) Money. I know nobody wants to talk about this... I don't like talking
about it myself. The fact is, we need money to rent the house in the first
place. And the company renting the house wants to know how many people are
going to be there. These things are still up in the air. Since it's so
close to summer already, and people need time to make plans and arrange for
things, I'm thinking about renting the house for sometime in August. Not
too close to the end of August, when people are making preparations to go
back to school, more like the first or second weekend of August. I would
really like to know for sure who is and is not going and have people paid
up by the beginning of June. I'll make the reservations then. The fee was
$150 per person last time. That seems affordable for most people and it
wasn't a problem last year. Options I have on renting the house are either
the weekend or during the week. If we rented it for between Monday and
Thursday, that would give us more time to spend together. What would people
like better, the weekday option, or the Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekend
option? What kinds of activities would people like to see?
Let me know what's going on so I can get the ball rolling on this. I hope
to see you all there!

Perhaps if I weren't in nursing school all summer . . .

MJ: Is the $150.00 per person or per room if you would be coming as a
couple? I'm not sure if we can go or not, but it is a lot closer to us if
we can.

Weekends would work better for me - I'm short on vacation days. I could
probably swing $150 no problem, and plane tickets to your area would be far
less expensive for me than New Orleans, much as I would love to go to New
Orleans. But then again - Louisiana in the summer *shudder*.
I can make no promises, but I would really like to go, and this sounds more
workable than the Deep South.

Callei and I were talking about Shmengfest II and kinda had an idea. Since
everyone is mostly only free on weekends in the summer and New Orleans gets
so damn hot in the summer.. what does everyone think of having the next one
in Seattle.
I've been checking into locations where we could rent a cabin with modern
comforts out in the woods where it is somewhat private. I also could
arrange to "guest" in anyone who wants to go to the local bondage club. If
anyone wanted to arrive a few days early or leave a few days late, I have
couch space and my daughter will be out of town so that adds two more beds
(she has a pull out hide-a-bed) available and I could show people around
town.
Who here would be interested in that idea?

I can do it in Seattle pretty much any time, but anywhere else, the only
time I'd be able to make it this year is if it were sometime around
thanksgiving. It's a long long way from Hawaii to the eastern US

Seattle sounds cool too, although tickets would be more expensive for me
again. Or Thanksgiving in New Orleans might be an idea, since it would be
unthinkable to have a true Shmengfest without our Deity. And with
Thanksgiving, many of us would have built-in vacation time.

I know Devin can make it and I think callei and shade might be able to make
it. I'm just throwing out feelers to see who would be interested in coming
up here in the summer. Mostly for selfish reasons since the only time I can
do this is during the summer. Single mom and all. And I SOOOoo want to meet
everyone in person!

Rayce, send me the information you have, okay? It sounds like a great
idea.... cabins in the woods in Seattle. And like Schizo pointed out, it
wouldn't be Shmengfest without the Devinity.

I'd thought lots about having it around Thanksgiving time, but I figured
most people would want to spend that time with their families so their
schedules would be booked anyway. Lik me, I'm planning on going to FL for
Thanksgiving and thought it would be cool to be able to have shmengfest in
New Orleans near that time so I could hop a multistop flight through, but
then lots of people wont be able to get that time off from work because of
the time off for Thanksgiving too.
I like the Seattle idea. I actually do miss it for certain reasons and
certain people.

I have not heard back from Meranda_Jade so I thought I would post my idea
here and see who would be willing to attend.
There are two options, depending on how many people show up:
5 bedrooms – Sleeps 18
1 bedroom with a double size bed, 2 rooms with queen size bunk beds, 1
room with double size bunk beds, 1 room with single size bunk beds, 1
queen hide away bed in main room
Large hot tub on deck by river
2 bath
Full kitchen
Wood stove
2 TV/VCR, dvd, satellite tv, cd player, foosball, ninetendo 64
Horseshoe pit, log swing set, fire pit on rivers edge, hammock, picnic
table, gas BBQ
$500 for 12 people per night
$25 for each additional person per night
5 people = $200 each
6 people = $167 each
7 people = $143 each
8 people = $125 each
9 people = $112 each
10 people = $100 each
11 people = $91 each
12 people = $84 each
13 people = $81 each
14 people = $79 each
15 people = $77 each
16 people = $75 each
17 people = $74 each
Option 2 - If less than 7 people are coming
We could get a hotel in downtown Seattle and hit the town. I know all the
local sites, bondage clubs, nature parks, mountain trails, waterfalls,
local freaks, interesting tours and great places to eat.
A walk through downtown Seattle to include local markets, small back street
shops and local tours of cool places like the Seattle Underground.
A trip to the local bondage club Devin, Amanda and I used to go to. I can
get everyone guested in. I'm an old time member and I know the owner. (Note
you only have to be 18 to get in so everyone can go).
A walk down Alki beach is probably one of the most peaceful places in the
world.
And more...
So who is interested? I was thinking maybe July.

The date of July is only a suggestion. Coming to Seattle instead of New
Orleans is also just a suggestion.

It seems that Rayce has everything covered pretty well, there. I've been
busy lately and that was my reason for my lateness in replying. It would
be best to turn things over to Rayce's capable hands this year, as she has
put time and effort into this that I am finding I have been lacking the
ability for. Her ideas have merit and I'm sure she'll arrange for a
fabulous get-together.

Oh dear. What have I gotten myself into? hehe
Devin has suggested a good date so give me a little time to clarify with
the cabin owners and see what I can work out. I'll post details when I have
everything together and more info to give.

Ok. here is the update.
By Devin's suggestion we are looking at the weekend of the 4th of July.
Problem is that without knowing how many people can come, I can't book
anything. Prices and availability change quickly when it comes to that
weekend.
So let's keep it simple. If you can come to Seattle for Shmengfest II
during the 4th of July weekend just reply with a yes. If not, reply with a
no.
If you can't come to Shmengfest at all no matter when we have it, DON'T
REPLY.
This info will help me tons in figuring out what we are going to be doing.
The cabin I was looking at is already taken on that weekend but they have
another one available. Problem is that cabin is more expensive because it
has more rooms and stuff in it. Hotels are available but it again depends
on how many people are coming and if people are willing to share rooms. Bed
& Breakfasts are somewhat available but I need to know how big of a
place we need. Some have 3 bedrooms and others have 8.
So please give me a quick yes or no so I can get this set up and we can
start things moving towards debatchery and fireworks in Seattle!

Unfortunately, that would be a bad weekend for me. My daughter's birthday
is that week, and I was hoping to manage a bit of a party for her - I'll
need that weekend to get things ready for it. Rats.
