Holy Sheeettt!
I have not seen anything so brilliant in I don't know how long. The fact
that Stephen Colbert had not only the balls but the decency to stand up,
stare that fucker in the eye, and then tell the truth like it had not been
told, is just breathtaking. Seriously, take a few minutes to read some of
this which can be found at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az
=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1062760&mesg_id=1062760
or you can watch the mr. bushee sit there and turn green for your pleasure
at
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Fucking brilliant. Some of my favorite parts.....

Mr. President and first lady, my name is Stephen Colbert and it’s my
privilege tonight to celebrate our president. He's no so different, he and
I. We get it. We're not brain backs on the nerd patrol. We're not members
of the fact (police). We go straight from the gut, right sir? That's where
the truth lies, right down here in the gut. Do you know you have more nerve
endings in your gut than you have in your head? You can look it up. I know
some of you are going to say I did look it up, and that’s not true. That's
but you looked it up in a book.
Next time look it up in your gut. I did. My gut tells me that's how our
nervous system works. Every night on my show, the Colbert Report, I speak
straight from the gut, ok? I give people the truth, unfiltered by rational
argument. I call it the no fact zone. Fox news, I own the copyright on that
term.

I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not
only for things, he stood on things. Things like aircraft carriers and
rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message,
that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the
most powerfully staged photo ops in the world.

The greatest thing about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands.
He believes the same thing Wednesday, that he believed on Monday, no matter
what happened Tuesday. Events can change, this man’s beliefs never will.
Over the last five years you people (reporters) were so good over tax cuts,
W.M.D. Intelligence, the affect of global warms. We Americans didn't want
to know, and you had the courtesy not to try to find out. Those were good
times, as far as we knew.

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president
makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those
decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make,
announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know
your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking
around in your head. You know the one about the intrepid Washington
reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know
fiction.

C'mon. Jesse Jackson is here. I had him on the show. Very interesting and
challenging interview. You can ask him anything, but he’s going to say what
he wants at the pace that he wants.

grandchildren will have no idea what a glacier is.

I don't know. I saw it and thought it was pretty tame, really... just a
blip in another Potemkin-esque, stage-managed event. Kind of like when an
actual homeless person wanders into the sight lines when the Great Decider
is having a photo-op of himself "helping people" on some rubble that used
to be a great American city but is now a salt water bath tub.
Billmon gave Colbert's performance a decent write up at his site. Check
the article "American Nightmarez" at http://www.billmon.org/ ____________________ "I believe that woman is planning to shoot me again." |

That's a great link, Mono! Good article, and I'm going to have to peruse
the rest of the site when I have more time!
How true - if Colbert was intending to make his audience laugh, he failed.
But as an attempt to get away with speaking the truth by thinly disguising
it as a comedy routine, he gets top scores.
It's a wonder that someone can get away with something like that nowadays,
without being sent to those secret prisons himself. I wonder if we're
going to not hear much from Mr. Stephen Colbert in the future. |

@Schiz
Billmon is a friggin' giant in the field. I've been reading him since
2003. He burns out or otherwise disappears every now and again, but then
comes back and posts maniacally. His batting average is way, way above any
of the comparable others (Atrios, DKos, Juan Cole or even the contributors
of the Huffington Post). ____________________ "I believe that woman is planning to shoot me again." |

I think they were trying to show that the government isn't "evil" and that
Bush is a "good sport".
If you saw "V for Vendetta" you know what would really happen if they
hadn't planned it and managed it at all. Black hood. ____________________ "People always say what we are looking for is a meaning for life…I don't

I know there are other people out there talking about him, even talking
about these same issues, but how many of those people have stood five feet
from the man, and not just him but the entire washington press corps which
is just as culpable, and told them exactly how it is. It may not have been
as hard hitting as it could have been, it may not have covered every issue
that we aware of and could be covered, but good god damn, it was pretty
well done considering.
And talk about being panned. The mainstream media reports that came out
about the event only mention Colbert in an end note, but will gush about
how inspid bush is when he talked wit his double...who cares...no one
wanted to touch Colbert's speech because that might have been news.....
