I personally don't like their stuff. I liked them when they first came
out, but then it got really old. I like Stonesour much better. I guess I
just grew out of the teenage angst heavy stuff. It's not my thing anymore.
As for commenting on their new album, I really can't say much because I
haven't heard it. I try to steer clear of them as well as Marilyn Manson,
Murderdolls, etc. I listen to punk or classical music when I am angry, it
calms me down. So yeah, this is basically my first post in forums.
Welcome me back to shmeng. It's been a long time. |

ah well, no great surprises there then. i was half hoping for some manner
of grand scale enlightenment on world or mythical affairs which have
somehow managed to become part of the parlance of our time but i knew even
then that i was destined for disappointment. much like (to bring the thread
back around) someone who expects a band with any sort of vision to keep
releasing the same album again and again. many a great band i can think of
has reinvented itself in some way or another over its lifespan. bowie
anyone? or perhaps a little radiohead for you, sir? maybe something along
the lines of a U2 today, madam. the list goes on, i wont because its
getting tedious. ____________________ Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

It's from "for sure, my nigger". That got morphed into "Fo' shizzle, ma

bettie. what is a nizzle? and also what manner of word is spizzle?
i may be displaying some gross popular culture ignorance here, but then
again i do that often so i dont care.
im assuming it means something along the lines of 'good for you, dude' sort
of thing, but i was wondering where it is from and such. ____________________ Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

There are a lot of bands who've "put up a good fight" and only had to do so
because nobody wanted to listen to them. If they make you happy spizzle
for you my nizzle.

I feel bad that I'm discovering this thread just now, and theres hardly any
comments on Slipknot at all....
Oh well, my two cents.... *takes a breath*
I started listening to Slipknot around 1996 or '97, so Selftitled had
already been out for what, a year or so? I loved it, I felt "hardcore", I
felt rebellious, and I felt like no one would fuck with me. By the next
year I actually listened to the whole album (lol), and enjoyed it. Aside
from the songs that were played on the radio and on tv, there were some
songs with really good lyrics (ie: Prosthetics, Diluted, Scissors, No life,
and Purity - depending on if you have that version of Selftitled) I stopped
liking Slipknot just because they were loud and furious, and I became an
actual fan of the band.
(Sidenote: Though I don't have Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, I do enjoy Killers
are Quiet, it is very eerie.. much like the whole cd.... but moving on)
Then we had IOWA. IOWA was good, but, what's this? More anger? Is this
possible? I will admit that there is only a handful of songs I can actually
fully listen to on that cd now, but at the time, I thought nothing of it.
It was Selftitled all over again, with more eerie'ness than before with
tracks like Gently, Skin Ticket, and the album namesake, IOWA.
And finally, we are where we are now, with Volume 3; the Subliminal Verses.
I'll tell you right now, when I heard that their sound was going to be
"different" I panicked, because I didn't know what to think.
I am thoroughly happy with this cd...
I am thoroughly happy that I didn't spend my money on a cd that I've
already gotten 2 times before.
I must emphasize that.
Everyone is complaining that Slipknot has changed. Alright, thats fine. No
one HAS to like the "new" sound, but if you can't appreciate the band (or
any band for that matter) enough to let them explore themselves musically,
you shouldn't even bother buying a regurgitation of their past works.
Slipknot, like was said before I think, have shown that they are capable of
experimenting with different sounds and types of music. I for one, commend
them on being so bold as to step away from what their fans are used to.
Most of the lyrics on this album are very intriguing, but of course, we
still have that "oldschool" Slipknot vibe in a few songs... (Pulse of the
Maggots, Three Nil, etc)
I'm not going to rag on the person who started this thread, or anyone else
for not liking Slipknot... but after being around for almost 10 years, you
can't say they haven't put up a good fight. (well you can, but.. that's
mean.) ... OK, I'm done.. sorry for that.. ____________________ - The post count is slowly rising!

Schitz I still have all my Golden storytime books with the records on the
inside sleeve, even the "floppies" that you'd get where you had to put
pennies on them to keep them down on the player. And feral, I had an 8
track till I was 6, when I wore out "ring of fire"...or my mom took it
away, I don't remember.
As for slipknot, never cared for them, so I don't care if they're "sell
outs" or not. Bleh. ____________________ Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas. |

my first cassette deck was an 8track player...
see... people have been saying that abour cds since the beginning... it has
nothing to do with the cd, but the studio... I personally prefer the
precision... the ability to channel the sound into a 6.1 surround sound
musical assault at 400 wats per channel... synchronising your pulse with
the driving drumbeat, blood singing in harmony with the guitars... and I
CAN'T do that with vynil... and Mp3s have one thing over all the other
formats... i have a rio jukebox... my 600+cds all fit on this one machine,
the size of a walkman, with a couple movies as well... ____________________ The earth turns on a tilted axis - just doing the best it can.

Yeah, there's something about the scratchy, vintage sound of black vinyl
that a CD or MP3 will never be able to recreate. There's an almost
religious feel to the act of placing that disk on the turn table, and
gently positioning the needle. And the spinning spiral action is just
plain mesmerizing, as the needle almost imperceptibly drifts towards the
center, then magically lifts and moves itself back to its rest.
Actually, my love for the record player is tinged with a hint of fear. It
may sound strange, but let me explain. When I was a child, I was terrified
of snakes. Somewhere in my tangled subconsious, I must have made some
connection between the needle mechanism and a snake. (If you look at it,
you can see that it has a snake-like shape.) Anyway, I ended up having a
powerful nightmare about a record-player needle coming to life and
attacking me. Somehow, the terror of that dream still lingers wherever I
find a record player. But it makes it more attractive to me. It adds an
excitement. I've found that many of my childhood fears have turned into
fascinations. Except snakes. I still have a bit of a problem with
snakes.
Anyway, I wish I had a record player now. Someday I will. There's nothing
like sitting down in a comfortable chair, with the lights down low, and
putting on some old classical music record, and letting the gentle scratch
and spin spirit you away to another, simpler world. ____________________ "You can tell by the scars on my arms and the cracks in my hips and the
