Humor: back in black |

Hi all.
We are sort of settled into a new place and starting to sort out the flotsam of our lives. We have run into some interesting people in the last 3 months and I have to share a few thoughts we have had.
1. Just because you don’t shop at banana republic doesn’t make you Goth
2. Just because you write bad poetry doesn’t make you Goth
3. Just because you think Goth girls are sexy doesn’t make you Goth
4. Just because you want to be sexy doesn’t make you goth
5. Just because you like red wine doesn’t make you Goth
6. Just because you watch horror movies doesn’t make you Goth
7. Just because you liked the matrix doesn’t make you Goth
8. Just because you can read doesn’t make you Goth
9. Just because you know some Goths doesn’t make you Goth
10. Just because you think about “kinky” sex doesn’t make you Goth.
No amount of Voltaire (Part II from HT) will make you Goth. No amount of white face paint will make you one either, and it might not make you funny either. Black lipstick happens (hopefully to other people) and frankly Goths buy it at the Halloween shop too. Abuse of the thesaurus just makes you sound silly to people that know what those words mean. And purple prose happens to mid-western housewives more often that to any other group in the USA.
If you are a Goth you can show shop at banana republic, hate horror movies, like the dawn, and be into “vanilla” sex. You can be what you are and do what you do, and it will still be Goth. Its like being a human being; even if a human being acts like a dog or a monkey, they still wont grow a tail.
Oh and Dev…. I got your pillow right here.

Re: back in black by Schizo (Aranea@Spidersdance.com) on Jan 24, 2006 - 02:25 AM (User info | Send a Message) http:// | Wow, that was snarky! Between this and the pic - holy shit! Why does it matter to you why it matters to someone else if someone is goth or not?
A.) it was tongue-in-cheek. Why take it so seriously?
B.) If you read it again, you MAY notice that Callei did not define goth, but rather compiled a list of things that do not automatically make someone goth. I certainly do not see her pointing any fingers, or informing anyone of their goth/non-goth status.
What a ridiculous thing to get your panties in a wad over.

Re: back in black by callei on Jan 25, 2006 - 05:15 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://http:// | Would you believe i was quoting a very old woman I met at the Senior's Center in Connecticut? We played a word game with triple negatives and her great grand daughter has told her ALLLL about being goth. And gave her a goth necklace.
Who am i to say who is goth or not?Nobody, but i think anyone that can make goth jokes in thier 90's and laugh about it certainly has the right to.
I love crazy old people. I hope to be one someday. |
