Lemmings on Parade: I fought for this??? -or- Independence My Ass!!! |

Today is the fourth of July. Independence Day. Today is the 228th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I normally celebrate this day with gusto. Reveling in what I fought for, what I was shot for, what I bled for, and what it means to be free. But today, before celebration, I read the declaration of independence (Full Text) Words that are the epitomy of the desire to be free.
I find irony everywhere I look, normally. But am I the only one that sees this one? There are people out there, that as a result of our foreign policy, feel as strongly (if not more so) about throwing off the yoke of American Imperial Oppression as the founding fathers did about British Rule. Dictionary.com defines imperial as “Ruling over extensive territories or over colonies or dependencies.” American Samoa, Micronesia, Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Palau, the Virgin Islands, Serbia, Iraq – all these are territories and protectorates of the United States.
I blame Bush. I know our policies of invasion and oppression predate the Bush Administration, but never before have they been so obvious to the rest of the world or to the American public. I know, I know – you are all tired about hearing about the evil that is G.W. Bush. But today, you need to hear it.
Many in America are talking about Fahrenheit 9/11. I am normally against propaganda in any form, but I feel this movie is a must see for every American. It is NOT, - I repeat, NOT – a documentary. A documentary is defined as presenting facts objectively without editorializing. Moore is not objective. Now, I will also say, his facts (of which there are many) are disturbing and hard to ignore.
Some are saying that it is nothing more than a rant against the Bush Administration, but this movie “is a tribute to patriotism, to the American sense of duty — and at the same time a indictment of stupidity and avarice.” There are few people that can actually dispute the facts presented in the film.
Now, this film is is being threatened by a Republican PR firm. They are actually trying to get this film banned from theaters, urging the major theaters to not show it and going so far as to post the addresses of the CEO's of the theater companies. Bush has stolen our right to vote for our leader, supported the patriot act, lied to the people and now is threatening our right to free speech without censorship.
We need to do something and we need to do it now.
Happy Independence Day.

Go to the 'moveamericaforward.org' website, locate and click on the 'Stop Michael Moore' header, and go the theater owners websites listed.
2. Write a brief letter ENCOURAGING the viewing of Farenheit 911 to these theater owners and to not BOW DOWN to CENSORSHIP. Tell them you are looking forward to this film!
3. Save your letter; a 'copy and paste' approach can cover all the owners listed in 15 minutes of your time or less. This is a big help-- let your opinion be known.

Damn skipy. The American people have been hijacked and flown into a mountain and they are only now starting to wake up and get the picture.
And why we are talking about throwing off the yoke, god dammit, we should give back Hawaii, and let Puerto Rico go free, give back Iraq and Afgahanistan, and let Israel irrevocably fuck itself up without promising to start a thrid world war over it.
We should also lay off North Korea and stop threatening to start wars of aggression with countries that may or may not be able to threaten us, but we don't like they way the look. Namely Iran, Syria, and Lybia.
I'm so pissed at the current adminstation I can't speak.
I wrote a review for F911, having just seen it as well. I will say this for it. There were not any realy surprises, all that was reported has been known, and talked about, but it's never been put together, and really presented to people. It's been hidden, obsfucated, and generally buried in the media so that no one will stand up and question the administration.
That the administration has been terrorizing the American public for the last 16 months is no surprise, but yet, it never seems to get addressed.
And you know, I was just thinking it was time for a nice Lemmings on Parade. Glad to see it.

I saw it the night it came out and I don't think I've ever been to a movie in my life where there was that level of audience reaction/interaction with what was going on the screen. Typically, you do ANYTHING in a movie theater and you get shooshed, but in this movie not only did people have no problem laughing out loud, but gasping, muttering words of disbelief, disgust, booing (you should have heard it when miss britney threw her two cents on politics in) jeering, and when it was over the crowd went insane.
I hear from every opponent of moore that this movie is biased, and slanted. Well duh. First off he can't be expected to fit EVERYTHING into a reasnoable length movie. And of course it's biased and slanted, he set out to show a certain aspect of american politics that nobody seems to want to show, and put it on film to make a point. The funny thing is, half the people wailing against this movie were doing so before it even came out, before they even saw it. I saw a cartoon the other day that had a couple standing in fromt of a movie theater showing F911 and the wife is saying to the husband "there honey, the movie's finally out, now you can see if your opinions about it are right".
Plus, a lot of people are quoting the movie and saying it's "lies, michael moor is a liar", when in fact he did very little editorialising other that verbal set up between clips. Most of the things people are screaming about as LIES!!! are not coming from the mouth of michael moore....they're coming from the mouths of the leaders of this country via video clips. All moore does is keep the footage you see cohesive and add of course enough light humor to keep you from walking out of the theater in disgust with your leaders.
I honestly think that if Bush gets re...elected *cough* that hell will break loose sometime in the following four years. Either by our own hand or the hand of a foreign "enemy", and WE (the general public who really just go about our business every day) are giong to be the ones to pay, to be hurt, to be put upon. I don't like that.

Well I haven't seen the film yet. I am waiting for Natalia to come back to Spain so we can go together. But I would like to give my own personal two cents (of an euro) about USA's foreign policy.
Feral, you say that "There are people out there, that as a result of our foreign policy, feel as strongly (if not more so) about throwing off the yoke of American Imperial Oppression as the founding fathers did about British Rule.". Yes, you are right, there are those people around. Such as?
Let's talk about Irak. Oh, yeah, sure you have been lied to about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, but that's internal policy and I would like to break a lance about that. Surely you all are in other fori and communities where people are not near as clever as the average Shmenger. I have discovered that for every slogan some idiot posts in such fori, I have to spend hours of well thought, well explained sotial, political and economical arguments to defend my ideas (and when we get down to religion... wow!). And that even then only a small number of people bothered to read my counterargumentation, they just skipped for the other guy's next post (and next slogan) to see how he had answered without taking the time to try to understand.
People don't want to understand. They don't want to waste the time it takes to do so. You simply can not exercise executive power trying to explain things because people don't want to be informed. And if that is so here, where we the people at least can point at Irak in a map and say some things about their (ancient) history. over there it must be excedingly difficult to try to explain complex things to the people. It's not just the average American's mistrust of the powerful. It's that they would have to start by explaining where Irak is! You can't go around trying to explain Tonybee's theory to every James, Dick and Henry (or whatever). First they don't have the formation needed to catch a glimpse of that. Second, they wouldn't believe you, you are just trying to confuse them out of their minds. They already had an idea they were cmfortable with, they don't want to change it, thank you.
It is a horrible misfortune that in the US you have to treat the people like children to get elected... and then to be able to exercise power. I'd really prefer the only superpower to be an Alpha-double-plus democracy, but sometimes it seems it's just a truckload of Epsilons who don't even vote.
Back to the point. What I mean is this: when you are in charge, sometimes a preemptive strike is neccesary. If you have to explain everything until your people understand you are at a HUGE tactical disadvantage. So you... exagerate. Instead of trying to explain this second Iraqi war as just a move in the extremely complex, three-sided chessboard of the War of Civilizations, you just say it's some sort of crusade to free the Iraqui people, or to stopl a new Hitler. THAT people understand. Trying to explain that the line between a insecticide plant and a chemical warfare one is very thin, that Irak is the IDEAL place to start a western-like democracy (big medium class, resources, almost no religious fanatics (Saddam took care of those), a will to survive and progress...), that this western-like democracy, properly helped by NATO will mean the demise of Iran and Syria (it's one thing to be talked about the maladies of democratic regimes when they are oceans apart, quite another when you see how well your Iraqui neighbour lives), and all the many reasons there were to invade (including the preemptive strike, I insist. Unruly people, Unitedstatesians. You complain about your leaders not doing anything to prevent disasters like S-11, but when they do, you complain as well because they hadn't done anything! So should your government wait or not???)
I am losing my track again. A modern state is not built up with feelings and heart. It is built with reasoning and a serene head. So what should US do? Leave Irak? Any idiot can see that w
