Articles: For once, I am pleased with what is going on... |

There is something that happened in Missouri that pleases me immensely... actually, it happened in Kansas, but Missouri lawmakers are fuming since the couple it happened with LIVE in Missouri.
Before I actually tell you what has happened... There is a little... well... a lot of background. When I moved to Columbia, I used to hang out at a place called the Cheshire Cat. It is a gaming store. One of the favored games at the Cat was "Star fleet battles" (a space tactical sim). One of the people that play the game is Jeff (he's so into it that he sculpts mini's for the company).
Now... Jeff meets dawn... Dawn is a lesbian, but falls for Jeff... Jeff, as it turns out, has some gender issues... and Jeff becomes a cross dresser... This pleases dawn, but not enough... Jeff... through much introspection and many, many beers in my living room, Jeff makes a decision... to become Jessica, for real....
Several years later... Jessica and dawn are a happy, happy, happy couple... and decided to go to the court house and applied for marriage... well... the courts in Missouri say two women cannot be married... and You, Jessica, are a woman... Since Jessica used to be male, the state law says that she cannot marry ANYONE legally at this point...
Enter Kansas... in march of 2002; the Kansas supreme court ruled that a couple could not legally marry. The Couple featured a woman and a female to male transsexual... By state law, they were both female since that was what was on the birth certificate. The Precedent cited was from the time of the civil war when a woman had been acting and dressed as a man since anyone could remember, and none knew that she was female... the courts, when her inheritance was due, denied her since her birth certificate said she was female...
Jessica and dawn exploited these foolish rulings. Since Jessica's birth certificate states that she is male... it is perfectly legal for them to marry... and they did...
Now... Keep an eye on the news for the shmeng that is going to flow... *grins big* because the courts cannot do anything about this marriage without other consequences. If they rule Jessica and Dawn cannot be legally married, then the other couple can get married...
This pleases me beyond measure...

I once had the unique experience of meeting a hermaphodite whos parents had decided that she was a boy but nature had decided would have boobs.
she had been on hormone "therapy" since she was very young to supress any femaleness and to make her more masculine. She was very tall with broad shoulders and lots of muscle. dispite the drugs, when she was 18 or 19 she started to get breasts. The doctors upped her drugs to "help" her.
She met a woman. they fell in love. the other woman said dont take the drugs if you dont like them. She stopped and her boobs came in, her hips rounded out and she lost the facial hair.
then they got married. In Texas. Because her birth cert says she was a boy. they had been togeather some 10 years or so when i met them, and very much in love.
I tend to think of them as proof that laws dont always work and that love really does win sometimes.

Oh I love this game too. Its going to be fun watching the fallowing havoc and chaos to consume the legal system. In a way its like a check mate, the system (or at least this bit of the system)has been cornered, and its time to play smashy smashy. Hopefuly it will be banged out to the point where love is love, and it will not be so strict as to deny love involving transgender or same sex.

Feral, I can not thank you enough for sharing that story. It has been a long, long time since I was able to hear of anything going on in the world that has not made me need to choke back the rising black bile. On a planet in which millions are slaughtered for the flimsiest of justifications and love and happiness between anyone except for the richest and most socially acceptable is actively discouraged, your post was a much needed bit of good news. I wish Dawn and Jessica a long life of happiness. Congratulations to them both!

does anybody else feel like running to the lawmakers in that state, poking them in the eye and yelling "GOTCHA!" ?
They try so hard to prevent people from being who they are/want to be , which is usually something other than the repugnant, heterosexual, anal retentive, pious, close minded straightnecks they profess themselves to be, that when their OWN WORDS and decrees snap back and bite them in the ass it's about as comical as it is sad.
as for me, pass this to them for me will you?
NEENER NEENER ASSWIPE...THEY WIN YOU LOSE!

This is, to me, an example of the tendency of a society toward a natural and balanced position. The lawmakers in this case have taken an unreasonable conservative stance by attempting to legislate human interaction, which inherently defies any attempt at classification, let very much alone regulation.
In the popular film Jurassic Park, a chaos mathematician played by a certain Jeff Goldblum was heard to say "Life will find a way", and here we have evidence of that being played out in the court systems of the nation. Well fought to the two couples who catalyzed this situation, and well played to the attorneys who applied leverage to the loose stone they found in this legal wall.
