Articles: Satan's Bank : Where We Own Your Soul |

Ok. After reading Shade and Callei's dilemma with the DSL people I decided to let in my own little juicy tidbit of how much people that work in buisnesses (especially banks) suck major ass.
Yesterday for me was my "monthly" payday. My grandmother gives me cash for staying with her and being her silent companion (note these are the ones that raised me and not the ones I despise). 200 dollars. I thought "cool now I can pay off whatever debts I had". That was mistake number one for me.
In trying to cash her SSI check we went to 3 gas stations, and two stores who were all filled with assholes who wouldn't cash it because they wanted her driver's liscence. My grammy doesn't drive.
I told them in all niceness "screw you" and left to my bank. There I spent about five minutes waiting on a teller. I went and explained the situation and for "just this once" they cashed it for me.... I was happy and gave grandma her money and put mine in my account.
When I got the stub back telling how much I had left in my account it said I only had 81.63. Now that's funny. If you have no overdrafts (and I'm very careful about that) how can they hold 118 some odd dollars from you?
I asked about it and they referred me to one of the higher ups. I talked to her about it and she confirmed they fucked up. Saying that the transactions I was being charged for were supposedly overdrafts that weren't supposed to be, since I had enough money to pay for every single one of them.
I calmly asked that the situation be fixed and told her if it was because there was a charge for 199 from some credit company I had placed a stop payment on it a long time ago. She assured me it wasn't that and that she knew I had placed a stop payment on it and was nice enough to confirm that I shouldn't have to worry about it. Now. I got the 75 dollars they were charging me back and supposedly it was to show up in my account on tuesday.
I thought "fine, ok, that's cool. Life is good". 35 dollars for any fees kept is better than 118. So I go from my bank and wait a while. Check my account and lo and behold I see in red "You do not have a loan or account to withdraw funds from" and in my "Balance Available" slot I see a NEGATIVE of 215.37. My jaw hit the floor. My heart stopped and my rage hit the roof.
I'm normally a calm person. But when you only make 148 dollars working a desk job that pays 6 an hour for only 20 hours a week (since you're not allowed to have any more while working on college campus) 215 is a big deal.
I ranted and raved to anyone that would listen and they all agreed that I should bitch at the bank for it. Which I intend to do. After all. If one person says "Its all good!" and another says "You can't do that" who do you believe? I was told by two people I had a positive balance of 81.63 in my account. I believed them. My online balance states I have 81.63 there.
So where the hell did the negative of 215.37 come from? Tell me something. Should I kill them now? Or wait until they die and laugh at them from purgetory?

Oh that sucks. First of all, do not let them jerk you around at all. Be persistent, as that way it shows that you are not trying to scam them. I have had my bank "lose" deposits before, and because I look funny they act like I'm trying to rip them off, then 2 or 3 days of going in there and politely yelling at them, the money magically shows up (once, they said the teller dropped my check on the floor and the janitor found it!).
I too have just been screwed by my bank with my truck payments. To make a long story short, I had to pay off the balance of the loan and they charged me an extra $1000 for late fees - fees which were not on any of the statements they sent me saying how much I owe them. I think it was because they realized I was almost done with the loan and maybe they thought, "oh, we better screw the hell out of this guy before he gets away". Not that I'm paranoid, but I do not trust those people at all. Of course, they don't trust us either, so I guess it's fair..in a hey, take my money kind of way.

my mother always told me to be nice no matter what. But, I try not to listen to my mother after she starts drinking :-)
You know what i would do? Be ANNOYING, as annoying as humanly possible, I know that sounds terrible, but it does work. Hold up the line so that other people have to wait (I feel bad when i have to do that, but honestly, if the bank ran properly, there wouln't be a problem, so its not really your fault) If they keep telling you the same thing over and over, do exactly what they do to you, speak slowly and condesendingly until they get the point. I might be able to get away with it better cause I am a chick, but it has never failed to get me exactly what i want.

I know I've been exceedingly lucky with banks, they've only lost my money about once per bank, but I've always heard the following method works the best, go in at five minutes to closing time, that way they want to leave before you even get to the teller, then, immediately ask to speak to the manager, and then refuse to leave until you have a receipt with the right amount on it. I had one friend who swears the teller faked the deposit and just 'made' money to egt him out of there. but it withdrew from his account just fine the second he left the bank, soooo

If a MAC machine said that you were in the red, then I'd check the next day, as they only sync up with the banks once a day(noon I believe). If not, then I like what Shade said, and never underestimate the power of a girl in tears.
I also had some trouble with my bank recently. They changed names from Reeves to First National, In order for my check card to work, they had to send out a new one, "Great" I thought, "right after I paid to have a new card sent to me". So I activate the card when I get it, but I can't use it in stores until they shut off my new card. The 18th rolls around and I try to use my original card to buy a movie. It doesn't work, so I remember that I needed to use the new card, I give it to them, and, it doesn't work either.
They call the credit card company and they say that the card wasn't activated. "odd", I think again "didn't I already do that???"
I go to a MAC machine and activate my card, and get out $20 so I could buy the movie incase the card still doesn't work.
Apon return to the store I give them my card, they swipe it, the machine beeps, they tell me it doesn't work. They call the company again, read off my number, and are told that my number doesn't work, and the card doesn't exist (did I mention that the sent me 4 of the exact same card...)
I think that they fixed the problem now, which means that I had to have another card shipped to me...
