So I went shopping with a guy friend of mine, and as we are walking around we briefly notice a woman in a wheelchair being pushed by some other chick. We notice them because they are following us around the store. We aren't really looking for anything, just wandering around and half an hour later, this lady is till following us, just staring. Staring is not unusual to me (or my friend), but being followed was weird. She kept getting right in our way, so we would have to go around her. Finally, I go off by myself to look at "girly stuff" and my friend won't go with me cause he is a big freak (it was only bikinis and bathing suits, not douche or anything!)
After I am alone, this woman approaches me and starts digging into me about how I should be finding god, and she gives me this card of information. I didn't want to make a scene, but she was really pissing me off with her holier than thou rant, so I ripped the card up, and let it drop on the ground, and very nicely (I thought) told her that I was already more than happy with my religion, and stalking is a crime, and I walked away, only to find out that the other lady had done the same thing to my friend when he went off alone!
When I went to the management, they said that she wasn't doing anything wrong, and there was nothing they could do about it. Call me crazy, but silly me, I always thought being able to shop without being harassed was the norm.
I wasn't talking about worshipping Satan, or walking around with white clown paint on, or dripping blood, I wasn't making a scene, or disturbing the peace, just minding my own business. My friend was wearing all black w/ a black trenchcoat, and i was dressed like I always am, "goth" or whatever you want to call it, and apparently that is enough cause for someone to get treated like shit by some people who think their shit doesn't stink.
Everyone has a right to their own opinon, but I think that assulting some random person who obviously doesn't want your "help" is taking that a little to far.

Sweetheart...thats what tire irons are for.
She probably had found out abouty that earlier...hence her wheelchair. Don't let 'em hunt you down and bother you, make one hell of a scene...throw shit, punch her. Then run like a bat out of hell.
Or just start laughing so hard tears come to your eyes.
I think all of us have had encounters like that...they're just some weird fucked up people, but then again...they're just people too...which means if you hit them hard enough, they fall down.

Now, I realise that the vast majority or goths are pagan, wiccan, athiest, agnostic or some variation on the theme, but I find it really offensive that someone would assume that just because you are wearing black that you're not a Christian. I am, and if someone assumed I wasn't, based solely on the way I dressed, I would be really pissed off. Making assumptions about people and talking at them about how you're right and they are wrong is no way to get your point across or change someone's mind.

Once a woman came up to my friend and told her that if she didn't stop sticking her boobs out, she'd get murdered. Of course it's not her fault she has a bigger chest than some of us. Yes, that's jealousy you hear. *shakes head* Some religions are just, for lack of a better word, crazy. I guess it's more the follower than the religion, but...

Ugh, well they do that a lot here too. Jehova's witnesses usually. They stop you on the street saying stuff about god and so on and then they give you some shitty magazine or similar. Hm, I kind of got used to it. When I hear about god or see the braindead magazines I simply walk away and mind my own business. But sometimes they get rude and ring your doorbell. For situations like these I am going to buy a watergun and soak them dry. I don't care if it's an old lady in a fucking wheelchair or King Diamond's grandmother. It's still rude to ring people's doorbell and pester them with your god/afterlife/whatever crap.

Its annoying yes that religeouse people try to cram thier stuff down your throats.. but you have to also understand that they arent really looking at your life or even your point of view. which is ignorance.. (im not saying all religions are ignorant because i have met some people that were very nice to me regardless of how i looked) But the best way to deal with that situation is to just smile at them and say "No, thanks.." and walk away...
I found being Hostile isnt the best way to go.. sure your feelings are hurt.. but you dont wanna go and hurt other people as well.
i dunno.. i guess thats my strange tactic.. but i think that if we "goth" people treated people as we wanted to be treated.. then maybe perhaps we would have more respect amoung society...

I completely sympathize with you. I live in a predominantly southern baptist town where, if you are under thirty and do not dress in clothing from the GAP, you are immediately persecuted as "freak". They even have their eight and nine year old children handing out pamphlets and telling me "Mommy says you're going to hell. " Accosting me is one thing because I do not look "normal", but sending third graders to do it?
