Feature: Goth Test History |

I've been asked on the forums a few times if I wrote the Goth Test that way on purpose. Here's a little history on how it came about for anyone who cares (read more)...
Actually the test was originally like 5 questions that I posted on my site. It didn't even keep track if you got stuff right or wrong. I'd pretty much forgotten about it. Then I started getting email about it, and went and looked at my server logs. I noticed that the goth test accounted for about 3/4 of the traffic on my site. At this point I wrote a script that would fling you to disneyland as soon as you clicked on a wrong answer. That was amusing I guess, but then I forgot about it again. After a while I started getting email again - this time telling me my test was broken cuz it had links to Disneyland. I guess they didn't get it. So finally I was between jobs and bored to death, so I made up a few more questions (mostly based on stupid stuff I'd heard people say) and decided to write a script that would keep score and see how many people passed it. This turned out to be a bad idea. When people failed the test they would get all pissed and try to hack my server (with varying degrees of success) - or try to cheat and get their name on the page you sign if you pass it. My first thought was that I should take it down cause I didn't want to deal with the lame hack attempts. But after reading a little of what people wrote when they thought they successfully cheated, I figured I should just tighten up the security on my server and fix it so you couldn't cheat - then hook the end of the test up with a forum and see what people say. It's worked pretty well this way so far. Hope it's as amusing for everyone else as it is for me.

Hey there! Thanks for the info.! What a goldmine! Just finally finished reading every single last ***** one of those failed goth test comments. LMAO, and trust me, I can use a laugh. Also finding it very interesting to find examples of the "goth bad attitude", which I find correspond uncannily with my own heretofore carefully supressed bad attitude! (Although, considerably more witty!) Kudos to Callei and Laurie for being my instructresses in how to rip someone to pieces without ending up arrogant and know-it-all! 'Cause you are quite capable of turning the same venom straight at yourselves, which is cool! So, in otherwise, I'm thinking of dropping the "borderline", and just skipping straight to the goth/Christian, if anyone happens to ask me for a quick definition of my personality. Glad to have some of my last, lingering misconceptions of "gothness" demolished. And all thanks to a tongue-in-cheek goth test! Devin, if I didn't already believe in God, you'd be my savior!!!
