Articles: growing up |

Well, today I turn 21, and with it I find new responsabilities, and I'm not talking about drinking either. I was just offered a full time LAN Tech. job at the company that I was doing an internship. I've finally reached that point in life where I realized that it's time to grow up...
I've always dreamed of this day, when I can move out, afford a good car, live on my own, and now that it's here, I'm a little scarred. I look towards the future, and I see myself with an administrative position, and again, I'm a little scared, I mean, wasn't it last week I was racing people on the interstate, am I really ready to grow up and take life a little more seriously? I guess only time will tell...

No to scare you or anything, but i am still thinking that i should grow up and take life seriously. It still seems like i went to work with my dad on one of those father/son days and i'm sitting in his chair pretending like i have his job. Only problem is that he never had a job like i have and he's 1200 miles from here, so i had better make sure i pretend very well so nobody catches me playing grownup. Maybe growing up is optional.

you don't have to grow up. Old is inevitable, UP is optional.
You can have a well paying prestigious office job and be in a monkey suit from 9-5 and not be a grown up. It just means you can afford the more expensive clothes to play in at the club that MOST patrons there could only afford after months and months of savings.
You'll be secure, you won't be paycheck to paycheck, and just because you can afford a nice car and house doesn't mean you have to order a subscription to martha stewart living!
It means you've attained a financial position that most of us will only DREAM about...you will have a house that you can decorate as you wish, and won't have to take it down and start all over again when you're lease is up or they raise your rent, and you're money won't be going into the black hole pocket of an apartment manager.
This is very exciting for you....If all else fails, just take comfort that there are more than one makeup wearing weekend warriors than you....shit, there's a website I can't remember, I'll post it if I find it again, something like corporategoths.com or something...all on how to survive stylishly in the workplace.
best of luck, and hey. Congratulations!

its not that big of a deal ,its mostly how you look at it , some (most) ppl cant keep a balance between party or responsibilities , in my opinion its the american lifestyle , i grow up in europe where you free to go out party what ever age you are , i stared going out regularly on a weekly basis since i was 13 , so are most of my friends , you learn early how to be responcible but still have a life , unlike here. so don't worry about it don't grow up , be fun but still show up at work even if you sleepy or have a hangover , anyone can manage that , its not that big of a deal , my ex somthimes went 2-3 days w/o sleep and she was a nurse in a hospital , she is 26 now and got NEWER fired , i can only go 1 night w/o sleep but i did not miss work for partying so far , even so i do pary hardcore
