Feature: RealDolls are Goth as Fuck |

if you don't know what a realdoll is you're stupid. Go educate yourself at www.realdoll.com and cum back when you're better.
Ok, I really wanna know. What is the deal with people's reactions to these dolls? RealDolls seem to bring up this huge Blade Runner style moral dilemma in everyone who hears about them. Whether people see it as a dilemma or not, it seems like 90% of the people talking about them either *really* really want one, or want to violently kill anyone who buys one. They started out as an art project by a Hollywood special effects artist. Selling them as sex toys was an afterthought. I wonder how much less controversy there would be if people weren't fucking them.
Why don't we talk about art for a second, since these were art projects. Just about any artist will agree that the purpose of art is to move you - to make you feel something. In my opinion, any art that does this is damm good art. It doesn't matter if it's drama, music, painting, or even sculpture (silicone or stone). I haven't seen any art in a long time that accomplished this as effectively as these dolls. It gets a huge emotional response (good and bad) out of all kinds of people - even people who HATE art. Doesn't that make it 'Damm Good Art(tm)'?I personally think they're Goth as Fuck. I want one. (Here's where I put the disclaimer on that statement, and you say "Yea Right"). I was gonna say, I want one, but not to fuck. (Ok, now you can say "Yea Right"). It's true though. Now I'm not saying I wouldn't do her once or twice to see what it was like (maybe more if it was good). But that's a lot of money to spend on a sex toy. That is NOT, however, a lot of money to spend on Damm Good Art(tm). I suppose, in it's own way it would be fulfilling it's purpose of fulfilling a fantasy of mine. Ever since I saw my first 'girl dancing in a cage' at a club, I've wanted to decorate my house with girls like that. They're really delicious to look at. Only problem is, I'm way too nice (or sane) to ask girls to do that without paying them something. And even then, there would be the issue of feeding them and stuff. It's just not practical for long periods of time. RealDolls would be happy to perform that service, for as long as I wanted, dressed however I wanted, and without bitching about money or food or their g-string being too small. What I'm wondering is - why the focus on them as a sex toy? I hear a lot of people slamming them saying "No thanks, I prefer the real thing". Well um... ya know what? Duh! So fucking what? (I won't even grace that one with a stupid metaphor like telling someone who plays racing video games "I prefer the real thing" - it's a fucking game/toy). Then there's the insecure girl type who thinks it's men's attempt to replace women. That's just stupid. How long have dildo's been around now? And don't women still have sex with men? Even the pro-doll arguments are pretty sex focused. "Imagine a woman who's ready whenever you are, and never complains." Blah, so what. So's my hand. Here's my pro-doll argument. "Imagine a piece of art sitting in your living room that would get a reaction out of every person that saw it". If they were swirly paintings that had this effect on people, art appreciators would pay quite a bit for them. Don't think it wouldn't start conversation either. When I was younger, my brother made a person out of paper and cardboard and old clothes. His name was Paco Pedro Alejon, and he sat in the corner of our living room for quite a while. People would think he was real and start talking to him as he hid his cardboardness under a baseball hat and gave them the silent treatment. As cool as Paco Pedro was, These dolls make him look pretty shabby. It's really a shame that a lot of the people who have RealDolls think of them as sex toys, and keep them all hidden away like a dirty little secret. Not all of them are treated this way though. Gia seems to be the most photographed (or at least the best photographed) doll I've seen. And guess what? Her owner is a straight girl. (I can hear the rhetorical feminists screaming treason right now). It seems she takes Gia out in public too. See what happens when people relax a little? See how much something can change when people have a different perception of it. I guess all of the people I've seen brawling on the subject have given me an attitude problem. Chill out people, it's just Damm Good Art.

Back in the 1920s and 30s, there was an art style known as German Expressionism. One of the best known German Expressionist painters, Oskar Kokoshka, was teaching at a famous art school when his wife died. He had a doll made to resemble her and took it everywhere. Eventually, the school gave him the choice between his teaching job and the omnipresent doll. He chose the doll.
Now, I respect anyone's right to make such a choice for him/herself with knowledge of all consequences. Same with people who own RealDolls, whatever they do with them. I think the "sick" reaction that people have is not to the dolls, but to the owners' real or perceived mental state.
Think about it. In Kokoshka's case, everyone who saw the doll instantly learned that he was in denial about his wife's death, that he was unable to cope with reality. Most people would rather not know that much about a virtual stranger.
Humanity-- especially American humanity-- is surprisingly unable to cope with the gritty, grimy details of another person's mental state. Most people are unprepared to handle "too much information" about someone else. Which can be narrow-minded and immature.
If I walked into someone's house and saw several RealDolls strapped onto instruments of torture, it would tell me that I did NOT want to remain in that house for another minute. But I would still want to know what was going through the mind of the person who set up the display.
But then, people tell me I remind them of Clarisse Starling. So maybe I'm not the best source of an opinion.

I am impressed by the craftsmanship... but Statues, have always been a little creepy to this feral one... I... feel... like I am being watched.... so I'd have to stand her in the corner...
