Articles: Sex Ed. |

I fell into conversation with some kids the other day and the conversation turned to sex, as it so often does. Someone said that sex is bad , another said that only weird sex was bad , another said that it would kill you and that was bad , another said that sex makes you do bad things.
I was baffled. I could have understood all these comments if I had been talking to 10 year olds, but these people were in thier late tenns/early twenties. And they think that sex is bad, will turn you into a bad person, then kill you.
I said hey wait, sex gives people joy, babies, intimacy, a better understanding of themselves and others (if done well) and the chance to show off and be treasured. Sex is good, makes you a better person, and makes you more alive.
They then told me about the diseases that you can get (they missed a few, and got the symtoms wrong on the others). They told me about teenagers having babies (like it is something new and terrible). They told me about sex crimes (and they all honestly thought that rape was about sex, not about power).
I was amazed. I was dazed after the barrage, dancing kights before my eyes kind of dazed.
I asked where they had learned all this nonsense. They said "Everyone know it, duh".
Everyone except medical professionals, prostitutes, people living in non-western societies, therapists, rapists, and most people that listened when they went to planned parenthood.
This scared me. I mean, these people arent celebate, they just think that what they are doing is will drive them insane then kill them. So much propoganda has soaked in to thier heads, and somehow all the facts leaked out.
They even believe that you can get AIDS from shaking hands or using a public toilet.
I am horrified.

At least there hasn't been one documented case of doorknob gonorrhea yet. That would REALLY cause people to be paranoid.
Hmnnn...

I had a girl living with me while she was a senior in high school
her sex ed book had a diagram of female anatomy. they confused the vagina for the uterus. I was scared.
The book also taught that married women only got AIDS when their husbands snuck around with other men.
Her teacher also informed the class "a women's sexual organs are here breasts and her vagina"
This was circa....1999. Scary indeed.

ladies and gentlemen, I present you with the judeo christian paradigm... *sighs* it is everywhere... but I have noticed, like in all other things... it is polarities and extremes... I ahve a 14 year old tha lives across the hall from me, and this little girly refuses to leave me alone... I have been nice, I have been mean, down right rude, and this person, refuses to leave me alone!!! she constantly is doing things that are a bit creepy comin from one half my age...
scenario one: I am under my truck, working on the blown front pump seal on my transmition. and she comes over, and straddles me while wearing a skirt that is nothing more than a wide cloth belt...
scenario two: she e-mails me photos of her self off her web cam... Kiddie porn.... YUMMM
Scenario three: I took a shower, roomies left, leaving the door unlocked... I get out, dry off and head for my room... and there is a naked lolita in my bed...
Now... I am horrified by the experience of callei... but just as horrified by the other end of the spectrum...
I guess we all need to find a happy medium... me, personally... I am happy being a sensualist...

Sex like a lot of things tends to be exploted by the media. In reality if it's not safe you can risk your health and it is possible to catch all kinds of STDs and even HIV/AIDS. It's for this reason that one should really protect ones self before making love to another person. The age of which one should have sex can never really be definded because it is a personal preferance. Other than that sex can become ugly and complex for both genders when mulitiple partners are involved and a lack of communication is present.
Sex above all things should be shared only with another person for true love. After all having personal respect should not mean sleep with a 100 guys or girls. And virginity is cool!!! Just coz your friends are all sluting themselves around does not mean you should aswell.

While it is true that there are a lot of ways to die..... If all you do is worry about death you will never live. Sex SHOULD be shared only with the right person(s) it is true that free love is russian roulette but on the other hand..... Is it really living if fear is all that there is left? Be selective, if you are really worried you and your intended can go get a AIDS/STD test and anyone that LOVES you will do so for you in a hot second..... If they won't..... Burn rubber..... But don't live in fear it just is not worth it. Death is better then life when life is just fear added to fear added to fear, to me it seems that to be able to live life you can not fear death and pain, then life is just worry.... Take steps to protect yourself but don't shut life off from fear.... Sex IS fun, and usually not fatal, any sex is good sex so long as you both love and care for eachother and are consenting in what you do..... Just KNOW who you are with, it doesn't take a lot of different people to have a lot of great sex just one you love and some imagnation and sence of adventure and two people can fill a lifetime with loads of great sex, wild, wierd, whatever..... It's all good, just remember YOU are the one responcible for YOUR OWN safty and use that organ on top the sholders before the one in the pants and you will be fine.... But don't give your life over to fear.....

I remember reading an article on slashgoth.com (down, not across) called "sex for soda" about children as young as 5th grade trading cans of soda for sex in the hall closets at school!
I can't believe what some people think they know about sex and diseases, it's preposterous!
AIDS from doorknobs......
But it doesn't have anything to do with religion...I know several religious people that are smart and educated about such matters. This shit is taught in the SCHOOLS!
I remember in fourth grade drug education, they were trying...TRYING to teach us about marijuana....but they turned it into a kiddie book and pot was symbolized as a "hat band", and was told as a narrative by the kid's younger brother. He told of how they would put the hat bands on and sit around all glassy eyed and stupid listening to psychadelic music and then get violent and angry when he would ask what they are doing. And then they would have to get stronger and stronger hat bands because the old ones weren't good enough. Do you realize it was until my freshman year in highschool that I found out that you SMOKED pot, not stuck it in your hat?
Needless to say, I was like "man, pot's retarded, who wants to wear a headband that makes you stupid?" So in effect it worked, but man, did I feel stupid the first time I realized that pot could be purchased in JOINT form, BAG form, grew in the GROUND and that it did NOT come in hatband form....yet.
Kids and sex don't mix well anyways, and children are far too young and have too much going on internally and externally to have to deal with it, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be properly informed. I remember when KISSING could get you pregnant, and only male homosexuals had AIDS.
