Articles: People who compete |

There are people who you meet, in the street or online, who, at first, make you smile and think, "Wow. This person rocks and being buddies with them is gonna rock." The next time you see them, you mention something you like and that you really put alot of your faith/devotion/whatever into your liking for it. The person you thought was so cool then proceeds to shoot it down because, of course, their opoinions are RIGHT and that person is GOD and you suck because you're the only one defending this thing that you like.
Okay. It's a fluke. You can still work it out as long as you give this subject a wide berth and nobody gets hurt. Right? Of course not. The day after that, you mention something you're SURE without a doubt this person is going to agree with you on. Bang bang bang. And then they go even farther with it, saying this sucks and that sucks and that they know more about it than you ever will, so of course they're right and you're wrong. And as soon as you open your mouth, they say "Sorry. I win. :)" and the subject is dropped.
I don't know about anyone else- I personally prefer to have a chance to get an opinion in edgewise once in awhile. I can't stand people who dismiss everything that doesn't apply to their interests as a "losing idea," the ones so fond of the "Sorry, I win :)" ploy. THE WORLD IS NOT AN OLYMPIC MEDAL, PEOPLE! GET OVER IT! COMPETE WITH EACH OTHER AND LEAVE US LOSERS ALONE!
I know some people have to do this in order to feel better about themselves, but cheese! There are other ways, you know. I'm sorry if I happen to be an old-fashioned hippie oddity with the "make-love-not-war" mentality. I know alot of people can't grasp that sort of concept. But they should st least look for people like them to do that with and at least make it a challenge, you know?
It's not like I enjoy being a quiet doormat by nature, but someday I hope I do snap and commit mass murder in order to kill every competitive, holier-than-thou, "godly" prick in the world. Then us meek little losers can go about cleaning up the messes their contests left behind and make things work again.
And I will bet you every penny in my pocket that I have to type this rant out a second time because Bill Gates is a competetitive little prick who screwed up his prize.

oh jeezus, HERE HERE!
I HATE those dickwads! I used to be like that, but thinking in the back of my head "yeah, but I have scissors and you don't". Then finally my auto censor cut out and I actually tore into one of them. I just simply put it that it was nice they think they are right and cool, but hey, watever helps you get up in the morning.
For crying out loud, you think I lasted long socially after I was heard blasting dead or alive and cyndi lauper in my car in goddamned buckley "buttfuckley" washington?
you guess...
like I said, whatever gets you off the meds, my friend. It's ALL GOOD. Pat them on the head when you say that. Oooh, do they turn RED!

Well just remember some day they will all grow up. I think the biggest thing I learned in life is that everyone has something worthwhile to offer and not to dismiss others thoughts off hand.... True in some you really have to search for that spot of worth but I have yet to find someone that didn't have at least something worthwhile. Even the assholes, they show the intellegent what NOT to do.... LOL So even they serve....
Man I am a child of the 50-60's and remember well the peace-love days, it is a cycle and things will return have faith. Live free...

Is debating competing?

Mmmmm... well I hope not to get hated by everyone in the room, but I am a quite competitive person, I guess.
I mean that I like debate. I think that there is such a thing as truth, and that debate helps to get closer to it. So, if I have wiew A about matter X, and anyone has a view that excludes A, only one of us can be right (or none). So I try to convince the other guy of my view, and at the same time listen carefully to what s/he has to say. Is that being competitive? I don't know, I just want to put order in my universe and dismiss any ideas that are not mine as ilogical. And I am quite a heavy debater (captain of the college team and all that crap), so I usually get the ember to my sardine.
But even as I can be a real pain in the... head, I am also extremely fair. If someone does prove me that I am wrong, I dismiss my previous idea and embrace the new one to be defended just as the old one. I don't have an special affection for my views, all I care about is truth.
And, just like bettie_x, I have found that behaving like that does not bring you many friends, so I bite my tounge most of the time. But I do not think that people are right, or that their truth is valid if it helps them get to the morning. I thnk truth is truth and an end in itself, and if it's uncomfortable... well, I am sorry.
The Truth shall set you free.
