Porn. Erotica. Girly mags. 70's music.
Whatever you want to call it, its a billion dollar industry in the USA.
Yet it does poorly on the stock market. i can't figure that out.
But what is porn? Is there a different between pornography and erotica? Is it the difference between T & A movies and 70's soundtack that shows the mechanics of the act?
The "Sleeping Beauty" series by Anne Rice is a nice example. Is it porn or erotica? There are descriptions of sex that are as graphic as the ones in romance novels. But the romance novels arent porn or erotica.
I think that is where i get confused. Is a romance novel less "dirty" because its got more scenery in it? Is it less "dirty" because there is a "plot" (I am stretching the definition of plot here)? Why can you buy romance novels at any age, but you have to be 21 to buy "porn"? is the difference the pictures?
That logic would go something like people under 21 have no imagination, therefore without pictures this isnt dirty since they cant imagine what this would look like. People over 21 also have no imagination and are too busy to try, so we HAVE to give them pictures.
There is anime porn, written porn, porn movies, porn picture books, porn magazines, porn pictures, porn vacations and porn clubs. There is expensive porn, cheap porn, and suburban porn. You can even buy used porn.
Its not illegal, it doesnt give you cancer, and you can buy it at almost every cornerstore. Just like cigarettes. Which are illegal and cause cancer. Heck, they are on the same shelf in some shops.
But back to porn and erotica. I really wonder what the line is. You can buy bondage novels at Borders (this has caused a few laughs in the bondage crowd) but you cant buy "vanilla" sex novels there, unless you wander into the romance section. Does that mean that "regular" sex (whatever that may be) is less "dirty" that bondage? that regular sex is porn, but bondage is only erotica?

For my work, at least... there is a fine line, and it is mostly a combination of execution and intent... I have done some pretty graphic works... but I feel since they were done, at least on my end, for the artistic merit, it falls under erotica... BUT... My site has been banned by cybersitter and Net Nanny... SOOOO... you decide...

I have the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice in hard back... it's beautiful... I love Japanese anime porn...called Hentai... for those interested.. (try Twin Dolls... it's fabulous) It'a about beauty... in some form... others might not appreciate it.... For our honeymoon, Rouge and I saw Belle du Jour... which was based on an Anais Nin story... and it was beautiful... I think what makes the difference between porn and erotica is its beauty...porn denigrates, while erotica enhances... I think that is the difference... Erotica is about beauty and porn is about shock value...
