Shmeng of the Week: Random Weird Thoughts |
Posted by

Just sitting here in my nightgown at 10.44pm listening to music... just thinking of the smallest and biggest, interesting and weird things as always.
Examples of my thoughts follow. There is a show on TV here in Sweden that I think quite resembles the American show American Idol. It is called Fame Factory, and there they have chosen like 12 people of thousands and thousands of people to go in a fame school where they learn how to sing, dance and perform better. Each weekend 5 of this people are chosen to perform in front of a jury and a audience, and then the jury is gonna' give them points, and the two with lowest points gets to perform again. Then the audience votes for which of them they want to stay. And the other one gets to go home.
Seriously, when did humans become so interested in seeing someone so totally crushed as the individual becomes when they have to go home. See their hope being erased. I mean, all people that got into that school truly see music as a part of themselves. And if they have to stop with it, they are no more. At least so did the girl that went out yesterday say. She became totally crushed. This we people sit and look at for entertainment? Then we go and reward the winner that has been bitchiest and most false to win by looking up to them and buy their record?
Also, I watched The Island Of Dr. Moreau the other day, which is one of my favorite movies, and I wondered. Would animals mixed with humans be extremely dangerous cause of the animal part or the human part? Which is truly more savage? I think I have to vote for the humans... I mean, animal feel instinct (maybe they feel hate and such as well, we don't know... but I don't really think so)... but humans... we feel hate... revenge... greed... power... and all that. Truly, humans are scary animals, and I pity the earth and animals that have to endure such a savage race. Seriously, we abuse people just because they think another way, act another way, or just look different... wtf?!
I read in a magazine that the Homo Sapiens is evolving to Homozappiens Consometus... *laughs slightly* Kinda fun name. They say it's because we're using cell-phones so much, and Internet, etc... so our bodies and minds and evolving to fit into such a society. I wonder what we're gonna look like in like 50 years... extremely battery-operated, with almost no legs cause we barely move, and long arms with long fingers to use on typing boards and such? Hum.

Just sitting here completely zoning out cuz I'm listening to some...apparently over-relaxing classical music on the satellite music channel...Just finished writing a character bio for my oldest...or one of my oldest online roleplaying characters...make that a new bio...can't be a god-like character ya know...so have to be a regular immortal character...*snickers*...even though apparently through taking some "roleplay character stereotyping" quiz...I like being a demi-god...wow shocker there...*lmfao*...geeze should I take a small nap before work today or just forget the whole idea of sleep...pretty pathetic when you think about the fact that you can work seven days straight and end up with less than a 40 hour week...not that I don't of course love being a slave to the idiot masses...I mean who wouldn't ya know...well maybe I'll go and try to drug myself to sleep...or maybe I'll just stare at the screen saver as it pops up and let it simply hypnotize me into oblivion...laters...

When you are at your computer, late at night, and just piggling around because you don't want to waste the night by going to sleep... That's when you get inspiration.
I'll just sit quietly here, but not for long, since I have a project due at the end of this period, a flash animation project... crunch time, yeah...

I view that sort of entertainment as the 21st century's equivalent of gladitorial games. Life is never so bad that we can't sit and watch other, more desperate people abase themselves for our amusement. Seeing someone else's hopes and dreams being crushed takes our minds off of how meaningles our own lives have grown.

Humanity as a whole is innatley evil. Without knowing we are one of Golding's boys. Parting from that premise the show "Fame Factory" and "American Idol" can be justified throughout the corrupted Babbit lense that humanity has selected to view things through.
We tend to strive fr supremacy, omnipotence. Our "strong" morals, beliefs, values adn traditions are all crushed when they an individual is given the chance to show its power in comparison to others (who als want to show their power). These people that run fro these contests might be very in touch with their muscial self, but the minute they are given any sort of power they forget their tru roots until that power is taken away from them, thus the individual returns to its natural state and macbethian remorse kicks in, letting he/she realize the treachery that has been commited.
Because of the fact that there are is a vast majority of people, that have never read a book in their life and balcne this out by reading the National Enquirer, humanity has learned to feed upon the tragedies of others. We have become very accurate with the form of "role playing." As Billy Bob sees Mary McKenzie get kicked out of Americna Idol he role plays that he is the one that is kicking her out - simply becasue that srt of power and life seems so efimeral.
Again touching on humanity, if it were to mix with animals then probalby the animals would come corrupted (which Island of Dr Moreau does allude to). We lived a point in which we were innate instincts which evovled to wisdom and then evolved to the application of wisdom to evolve our nnate instincts - giving as a result greed, jelousy, etc. (relativley new born feelings). Society, the womb for humanity, is an uber - cosmopolitan mcdonalds/latte that has been dismembered to the very chore were Vogue magazine spartanly rests...

They have something like that here too, Pop Idol and Fame Academy, basically made by the same people, I'm presuming. Oh and then there's Popstars and Popstars the Rivals. Whoever came up with those titles needs help in originality. But I know what you mean. People just watch it to laugh at people who fail. Personally, that meakes me kinda sad, because I know that people often laugh at me when I fail, and for it to be braodcast to thousands, I would be worse than crushed. =(

Re: Random Weird Thoughts-reality talent shows by teddiliza (-) on Jan 07, 2004 - 08:48 PM (User info | Send a Message) | Blab mode on:
The way I look at it, being laughed at and ridiculed in front of thousands is just training for having your privacy invaded as a celebrity. Obviously, it is designed to weed out the sensitive from the self-confident. How can one put on a show for others if one is self-conscious the entire time? I think those of us who might feel too badly would never get to the point of auditioning for one of those shows. I like watching Star Search for the new talent, and like it the best because it doesn't turn into a soap opera. Some of the comics they get just aren't funny, and I'm happy for them to be publicly humiliated so they will quit and I will never have to see or hear them again. If you think about it, isn't it a blessing that those without talent (usually) never make it to the top, and the ones who do make it are so self-confident because they worked their asses off to get there & aren't giving it up because someone doesn't like them. Cardinal rule: You can't please everybody. At the same time I feel sorry for the people who finally get their big chance and blow it, because that's a lot of hopes and dreams that are being flushed down the toilet while everyone watches. My personal favorite: karaoke. Everyone's there for the beer and to watch others make a fool of themselves, while they give entertainment to others by acting the fool as well. It's a low stress, low pressure environment that's a great confidence builder for public situations. I think part of college public speaking classes should include karaoke, to help with overcoming shyness. :0 ) LOL |
