First let me say this: The distaster that has hit New York and D.C. was a real tragidy for all involved. My heart goes out to them and thiers in this dark time... Now...
There is a further sad fact here that has been golssed over by so manypeople. What the HELL are we doing involved in the mess in the middleeast? Why are we supporting Isrial? We speak so boldly of human rightsin America yet we are in a conflict where one nation is being treated muchas the Nazis treated the Jews in WWII and we are supporting it. As muchas it TRULY HARD to say this, I see both sides.... What was done was notright and no matter what could never be thought of as such except by somereally twisted people. However what this country is doing in the middleeast is not right either. Personally I think we should get the hell out andlet them settle thier own mess.... Now WE have been drug into thatwhole mess way farther then we should be and now our country is in a position where we HAVE to act, and act in many ways against what thiscountry was founded on. We have to act against others that mainly areseeking the FREEDOM to stay on the land THEY own. And the right topractice thier religion in freedom.... This to me really SUCKS.
Now to top this our US Attorney General comes on the TV and informs thecountry that WE will have to pay for this attack with loss of OUR rights andfreedoms. Looks like the Terrorists won some ground if that is allowed tohappen. He stated among other things that they now will have the rightto phone tap a person, not just a single line. Now think about what thatmeans.... They HAVE the ability to tap ANY phone ANY time and can followa person from phone to phone likely with voice recognition, and tap intoany conversation that pesron is having.... Otherwise that law change wouldmake no difference.... The terrorist attack is just starting if we allow thegovernment use it as a lever to take away our liberity and freedom.
Ben Franklin once said "If you give up freedom for safty, you shal havenor shal you deserve EITHER." Words we MUST strive to never forgetespecally in this time of international terror. If they take out freedomthen we ALL have lost.....
Again I do not support what was done or those who did it.
However we have to guard against condeming a people because ofthe actions of a few..... We ALL know how that feels.... RememberColumbine?

I was talking to someone the other day... technically... we are not living in a democracy... we were closer to a republic... til this last election... now... we live in a dictatorship... the american people did not vote (as a whole) for this mister george duh-bya Bush....the decisions in this country are mostly made by appointed officials...
In Israel... that day... people were watching the tv's in windows... DANCING IN THE STREETS... Literally... rejoicing... this was the public of one of our allies...
I dread how this is going to go...

Re: This HAS to be said by Devin (devin-at-vibechild-dot-com) on Sep 22, 2001 - 02:10 PM (User info | Send a Message) http://devin.vibechild.com/ | Rumor has it that news footage was filmed in 1991, so even though palistinians were celebrating, that makes it completely irrelavant to what's going on now. I wish people would stop bringing that up - at least until the question of when and where that footage actually came from gets answered. I wish we learned something from War of the Worlds.
I never saw the movie "Wag the Dog", I saw the previews and assume I know most of the plot. I've seen most of the scenes recently (and during clinton's escapades), just not the original hollywood version. Is it a coincidence that the last 4(!) presidents have had a war spring up at exactly the moment when they were getting the most flack?
When you see a man in a blue trenchcoat, he can tell you that the sky is blue, and you might believe him, but your bullshit detectors will still be on - you'll half believe stuff because some of it might be true, but there's an equal chance it's not. Why is it that when people start hearing propaganda and seeing it on tv, their propaganda filters don't come on the same way. |

Re: This HAS to be said by NightSide (nightside@vampirefreeks.com) on Sep 24, 2001 - 09:30 AM (User info | Send a Message) http://hcgothic.iwarp.com/ | Absoulty right Devin the footage was from a old CNN file, at least the footage you spoke of was. The media are master spinners, and I am not aginst the jewish people, but the media is mostly ran by people of hebrew descent so some spin in the direction that favors the cause of Isreal is not a big surprise... Fox News is some of the best in the US if you want a fair shot. Rupert is an Aussie... Personally I prefer the ITN World News for the least spin. But to true people swallow the Visual media hook-line-and in this case STINKER... One has to really put the bull-shit filter in HIGH gear when digesting any media that is available. My major and degrees are in communications and it is one of the most bull shit filled industries I have ever seen. It drove me to Pirate (Micro) broadcasting, in revolt and disgust at the tripe that is fed to us.
We only get what sponsors will pay for these days fuck all else. We hear what big biz will pay for no more no LESS... Scary Big Money is our Pre-Filter so think about that.... Used to be that adverts existed to suport the art and the media in the peoples interest... Not so now.... The art exists to support the ADDS in the Big Moneys interest. We are fed news that will lead us in one way or another to the products they want to sell us. Wheather it be a new bio-degredable detergent, or to willingly hand over our freedom for safty, and look who profits from it all.... Free press Bullshit it is filtered by what the sponcers will pay for them to show.... Something to think about.... I am afraid I tend to rant a lot about the abuse of the media by advertising.... Capitolisim is the best system but it should not be allowed to eat everything, can not be allowed to eat everything.... |

Re: This HAS to be said by Arthegarn on Sep 25, 2001 - 03:11 PM (User info | Send a Message) | Now, I don't know which is the system of the Home of the Free, but it can't be that different from Europe. Granted that you are the only Superpower, but you have also more democratic experience, as a people, then many European countries (Spain specially)
But down here the government is extremelly controlled by the voters, in comparison to what I am reading. So it could be also up there if the re was a higher citizen interest. I have read somewhere that USA's elections have the smallest participation ratio of all westerns democracies. What good is a wonderful system if you don't use it?
I don't know in the USA, but I know how much real pressure a score of people can really make here... and our system is not one-man-per-circunscription based!

Re: This HAS to be said by Andree on Sep 25, 2001 - 10:20 PM (User info | Send a Message) | i don't know how on-topic this is, but what feralucce said reminds me of monty python the the holy grial . . . the scene with the peasant, dennis, and king arthur:
DENNIS: What I object to is you automatically treat me like an inferior!
ARTHUR: Well, I AM king...
DENNIS: Oh king, eh, very nice. An' how'd you get that, eh? By exploitin' the workers -- by
'angin' on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic an' social
differences in our society! ....If there's ever going to be any progress--
WOMAN: Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here. Oh -- how d'you do?
ARTHUR: How do you do, good lady. I am Arthur, King of the Britons. Who's castle is that?
WOMAN: King of the who?
ARTHUR: The Britons.
WOMAN: Who are the Britons?
ARTHUR: Well, we all are. we're all Britons and I am your king.
WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.
DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship . . . A self-perpetuating
autocracy in which the working classes--
WOMAN: Oh there you go, bringing class into it again.
DENNIS: That's what it's all about if only people would--
ARTHUR: Please, please good people. I am in haste. Who lives in that castle?
WOMAN: No one lives there.
ARTHUR: Then who is your lord?
WOMAN: We don't have a lord.
ARTHUR: What?
DENNIS: I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a
sort of executive officer for the week.
ARTHUR: Yes.
DENNIS: But all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly
meeting.
ARTHUR: Yes, I see.
DENNIS: By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs--
ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: --but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more--
ARTHUR: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet!
WOMAN: Order, eh -- who does he think he is?
ARTHUR: I am your king!
WOMAN: Well, I didn't vote for you.
ARTHUR: You don't vote for kings.
WOMAN: Well, 'ow did you become king then?
ARTHUR: The Lady of the Lake, [angels sing] her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite,
held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I,
Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops] That is why I am your king!
DENNIS: Listen -- strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system
of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not
from some farcical aquatic ceremony!
ah, how amusing . . .
