I wont write a lot, but have felt in the same position as both of you I think. A rut is something in life that most of the time it is our own fault we fall into, things can be changed by us, but it is easier to do this sooner rather than later, and even sooner it takes the most bravery.
As we get older we have more responsabilities and more fear of changing the way we live.
If the cost of living is to high and jobs are too hard to come by, many people in this world look elsewhere for a better way of doing it, why do you think immigration is so high from some parts of the world to others. When the parts of the world that are economic and socially thriving at the moment become depressed in the future (us, uk etc) watch the population flow.
i know someone very close to me who felt like the sky was falling in, she stumbled across some people who look at life differently, check out www.floatingneutrinos.com, and look some of this stuff for a way out way of taking a different path. these guys have nothing but belief and love, not in a religious way just in an alternative route.
Kids makes change harder( i have my own..), especially when they are eleven years old, but in deep reality all children needs is love food and shelter and they will find there own way to happiness with guidance, guidance that probably couldnt be given if parents are always working to make ends meet.
As for Psychopixi, no offence but if you really think about it, do you have no opportunities or are you just not looking for any and waiting for them to turn up and slap you in the face, you are 18 years old for gods sake, the world is your oyster.
work is something to provide you with aw ay of life, if you like, there are many ways of providing yourself or finding work to suit your life rather than the other way round. there is a big world out there, not all of it conforms to the 'normal' way of life. go find it. hitch there, walk there, swim there, you'll find it if you look.

Hitting the world is always scary but you will be ok. When I got out of school I went from working at Dennys to working in a law office. You don't have a kid so don't stress it. Enjoy life while you are young. Find a roomie and get your own place. Find a job and stick to it. Don't call in sick even if you were up late doing the 18 year old party thing. Enjoy life because you are young now and you have no house payments or kids to stress on.
